Well, you could always nip into solo or private group to avoid a ganktasm.
A good tip if you have precious cargo and little time for grindy play, but I see so few human players I'd generally prefer to be destroyed in open than play in solo.
I suppose you could also use a hauler as bait before rebuying a better fighter ship. Not that my Cobra is any good but it can be fun having people try to chase you down.

Topped up Selenium reserves (and for quite a bit of Antimony and Tellurium too) at Synuefai ZH-D c28-0 4 c - it was was fun for a while, but didn’t quite fill up before patience ran dry, despite it being the best pickings in the SRV I’ve had.
Headed back to do a little Painite mining to fill the void in the astral purse after buying a few sets of Prismatic shields. That stuff is pricey... wonder who I should power play with next.

I don’t power play so don’t have them but if I did I would deal with that issue with the fast charge experimental or use them where I don’t usually get multiple attacks (my freighters).
But recharge speed is an issue with large shields especially with boosters.
I do recall an early engineer who specialises in shields. Who is that, again?
Elvira Martuuk does shields upto ( Can't remember), Lei Cheung is the main shield engineer.
One of the Colonia engineers will also do some shield work.
It’s a good question... but so far I’ve thrown them into a. Couple of ships and into storage, so testing them out yet to happen.
I think I’ll need to get the Dweller to tip me off for Lei Chung - but great tip.

Not sure I have access to Lieu Cheung but I did get an invite to Colonia. It's so far away though.
I'm not sure my mind is ready for deep space again. It can get lonely out there and I'm not as tough an explorer as I used to be.
