Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Last post for the day I think...

Got a whopping 4% further along the dangerous rank today. This comp nav beacon is the place to be, but not for the Corvette I'm beginning to realise. I'm finding bringing the large MC's to the party is slightly tricksy whereas the Mamba can focus all four of hers much better. And she's a nimble little minx.

So, O Ren is going to have her work cut out... nearly every fight I took on was dangerous, deadly or elite.

I think she's hard to hit coz she's black. And the colour of space, your basic space colour, is black.

Now THAT is nice. I've never been particularly fond of the Mamba but it does look sexy in black.

Anyone noticed any graphical changes? Something looks different.
Probably my GPU melting.
After switching from Oculus Rift CV1 to HP Reverb G2, it's hard to say, but I must say that everything looks "slightly" more crisp now. With the current GPU market situation, I've had to go for a RTX 3070 for now, and getting that was a combination of pure luck and rapidly hitting F5 for weeks.

I'm gonna fly spaceships tonight, so I'll keep my eyes open and report if I see something that has changed :alien:7

Loaded up half the cargo space with limpets on Plissken, my mining Python, and went to a pristine ring about 250 ly from Jameson. Arrived and was greeted by the usual pack. A wing with a Python and two Imperial Eagles. Took out all of them with two frags loosing a single ring of shields. Plissken is called Plissken for a Reason.

Then I started mining, and what a pleasant surprise. Pulse Wave finally works! Cracked a few rocks, using my new firing group setup that sprays limpets all over the place (link limpets to the abrasion blaster), and ended up with a decent cargo. Tried finding a station to sell it all without removing the VR HMD but no luck, so EDDB to the rescue. The highest bidder wasn't too fair away, so I went to the system, only to realize than the station was ~500.000 ls out  Ouch.

Well, off I went and after some time (too much) I was interdicted twice. Picked up some more mats from the wreckages and sold the cargo at the station.

Tonight's earnings ~70 mill CR and 12 Arx.

I saw nothing out of the ordinary, but it was a nice little trip.

I am on my way in the FC to that 6 hotspot tritium ring I found a while back 6500kly out.
Doing some close exploring, so the first hyper jump today, noticed that the details in the
hyper space tube look a little different.

Starting up a tritium supply depot, cheap at half the price, don't worry what it cost me!
Worry what it costs you? An FC in need is an FC I can bleed ..hehehe...

10 days to we get legs, got to learn how to polish then boots ...
I am wondering how many walk-in bases will appear at( reasonably near) my new location.
And will they have a shopping mall.?

Lol lovely ship and yes, I agree - I find medium ships much easier in the cut and thrust of a compromised beacon. I do like the Corvette for when supporting a war, though, or for particular missions. Love the look of your stealth Mamba, very mean. I shamelessly nabbed @Codger's retro racer look for mine, with the fronts of the pontoons looking as though they have been dipped in red paint, love the retro look. My own road car is older than I am, so guess you can't change a man's nature, even in the 34th Century.
This has been amazing to watch. Well done.

Thank you so much, in particular for the support throughout, genuinely much appreciated. Cracked it last night!! So am now officially sporting triple elite decals on my Krait. Phew. You must all think me a complete combat nut, but I figured I have been wanting combat elite for 36 years, so it was high time I just focussed on it, got it done and am then free to play the game with it under my belt and behind me. We had some sad news last week - my father-in-law died - so it helped to have a mechanical focus for late night sessions after another day of admin. Off now to unlock prismatic shields and then maybe head off on a voyage, or join another squadron, or who knows what? That's the fun. Thank you again, Commander. You must be getting closeish yourself? o7

I’m very sorry to hear of your loss, best wishes to all concerned.

Triple Elite. Amazing! This is what I love about this game, do that for a while, move on to something new. Congratulation.

I’ve stalled mine, it was getting samey so I’m out for a trek, taking the very long way to Colonia, since being there the first time, if I have a home in the game, it is there.

Thank you very much. Sudden stroke, out of the blue, never woke up, so if you're going to have to go I think that's how to do it.

Anyway... yes love Colonia, only left owing to the fleet carriers. As you say, this game is the ultimate sandbox - you can just do whatever you like. I'm enjoying just packing up the Crusader, fitting fuel scoop, fighter hangar, SRV bay - refreshing not to be looking at a full combat rig for once! - and heading off on a brand new adventure.

Good thing about your combat ranking, you can pick it up at any time. Find a comp beacon at Colonia, take a couple of hours and push it by a couple of per cent, then go back to what you were doing.

I have fitted this ship as a proper generalist, hope to stick with the one ship for an extended period.

Sorry for your loss Cmdr.
Congrats on the triple Elite. Well done.

Congrats, Simon. Well done, indeed.

Myself, I've been very busy, but not in ED. The X4 Foundations expansion was released, so I've been over there being a Terran Cadet.

X4 is an amazing game, with a lot of possibilities and interesting stuff in it. It's huge, and complex, and the UI is weird as heck. There are still lots of little rough edges, but I'm so used to it that I can ignore the little stuff for the sake of the huge space opera. It's a sandbox like ED, except that you're the only player and you have full control over the parameters of the game. With mods you can change anything to be the way you like it. The economy is real, and extensive, and complex. You can build an empire, or just diddle around doing missions and exploring. It has a massive learning curve, and many avenues for frustration, but also many chances for very cool stuff to happen.

If you have a ton of hours to spend, X4 will suck them right up. :)

They've expanded the story-line stuff, a lot. It's been giving me Odyssey vibes because I've been doing stuff like landing on ships to talk to the captain about a mission, and I have to actually get out of my ship, and head down to the bridge of their ship to meet up with the NPC. It's very immersive, and I'm looking forward to similar types of interactions in Odyssey.

The graphics aren't quite up to ED standards, but they ain't bad either. Here's a couple screenies, just because.

This is my Courier. It's slow but carries a fair sized load and can land on small pads. It's very industrial looking.

Another of my ships, this one is more battle-ready:

The inside of one of the stations I was visiting. It's cool to just stand there and watch the traffic sometimes.

Because of all this, I'm really, really looking forward to Odyssey.

I'm signed up for the Alpha, so I'll be in there right away. Should be great fun!

I'm currently on an FC headed back to the bubble. I'm loving the buzz of an FC jump, the sound is fantastic, but I wish you could look out of a window.
I think I'll jump off around 5kLy from the bubble and make my own way from there (tomorrow afternoon maybe).
I'm 81% Pioneer and I think I need to get another 95M Cr in Expo data to make my first Elite and I'm feeling a bit guilty for hitching a ride.
