Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

So there is a war going on in the Bubble against the Thargoids?
More than that, there's a crazy man trying to build a super weapon that will wipe out most of the Thargoids with one blow (or so he says) and commanders have been "helping" by bringing large amounts of Guardian technology to this one system, where the super weapon is being built, which is attracting hordes of angry Thargoids to that system. Only the crazy guy, who calls himself Salvation, is actually on some sort of mind trip and has a very checkered past and probably can't be trusted, so...

Yeah, stay in the black. That's a good idea :)

Hmm.

So, if this weapon wipes the 'goids out, does that mean we'll never see on-foot combat against them? Moreover, there'll be no use for Xeno-Defence protocols or AX Combat Logs...

:D

I've been looking at this shot of "me" and pondering. I remember when my CMDR was just a ship. No face, just a helmet. He was always sitting. I didn't think about it much, I just flew around having fun in the game.

Then, suddenly, he had a face and a body. He still couldn't get up from his seat, but he became a little more of a real person. At the time I thought it was just fluff. What's the point of creating a holo-me, I thought. No one will see it. I hardly ever see it, except for a tiny portrait in the HUD. I made one anyway, of course.

And now, literally years later, my CMDR has become a fully-fledged character, who can get up, walk or run, shoot weapons, steal supplies, sabotage industries, wipe out entire settlements single-handed, explore vast untouched planets and see new things, and more.

FDEV gets a lot of flack for bugs and design issues and whatnot, and rightly so, but what they've accomplished in this game is actually quite amazing underneath all that. I have a 1:1 galaxy with my tiny human CMDR able to travel anywhere in it, and do all kinds of activities and see all kinds of interesting sights.

I hope that the people who have done all this work are happy and proud, despite the over-the-top moaning of the player base, because they deserve it. I'm just glad I've been here to experience it all.

I THINK I may have just discovered my first system.

I've been flying around for ages working my way out and down and I hit this one system, scanned it and it said there were 17 bodies but nothing showed up in the nav panel. I was completely confused so after some Googling I found out about the FSS and just found this little icy planet and moon in the system. Note that it has nobody's name on it as discoverer or mapper.

Or is this some kind of glitch?

Yep, you are the first. Congrats!

There's even a landable planet with an atmosphere there. Might be biologicals on it, or something.

PS I love the FSS. I find it very satisfying to drill down and slowly reveal the entire system for the first time.

PPS You haven't found all 17 yet (with the FSS), keep going :)

No glitch, you discovered it first, so it is up to you to FSS scan all 17 bodies if you want any future commander arrive here to see the system without FSSing it all first. The nearest planet to you shows up because your ship is close enough to discover it's basic nature without having to use FSS.
This is your system, so why not go and DSS map all 17 bodies, land on them and get out on any that are landable so you also have first footfall.
Now you are a real ED space explorer :D
