Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I made Elite I in something. I'd take a guess it's Trade.

Congrats (y) Now you get access to Jameson Memorial, where you can buy almost anything at a discount.
Th benefits and deficiencies are listed here:

Jameson is a nice place to be able to go to...

So, what are these maps then?
They are immersion breaking, for one thing.

You see, it turns out that the asteroids in a ring are not random. The same exact asteroids show up every time, with the same exact contents.

Thus, if you enter the ring at the same spot every time, and orient yourself the same way, you can then map the asteroids, and note which ones have high percentages of ore. You can map out an entire route, and every time you do that route you'll get the same results.

So people make maps of the asteroid locations by taking screenshots, and put together a repeatable route through the ring such that every asteroid you mine is very high percentage.

It's mostly useful for laser mining.

Asteroids in a ring that are for being laser mined are spawned separately for each CMDR, and renew themselves every couple of hours, so the maps remain useable forever (or until FDEV changes something).

Core asteroids, on the other hand, are shared by all CMDRs and take a few days to respawn. Maps aren't so useful there.

Interesting. I'm not sure I mine that much to be able to do that, not that I would necessarily want to. I see what you mean about it being immersion breaking, but I typically only run 3 or 4 times per hot spot and never in the same system twice, at least not so far anyway. And I also only mine in systems where I am first to discover, while I'm discovering them.

When I take Clementine explomining, I do everything there is to do in a system and then move on to the next one. At least so far, as I haven't mined since I got my carrier in June. I've only done a handful of systems like this at a time. 3 or 4 play sessions. Then head back to to civilization to do something different. I like to keep myself available for possible multiplayer shenanigans so I'm not out of the bubble for very long. Colonia works really well for this as the distance to undiscovered stars is only 500 to 1000 LY out.

Now that I have a carrier I have to run a test to see if it is faster than jumping Clementine all the way out...a race...

Maybe I'll do that right now...

Today, I am going platinum mining in a hot spot with a haz rez on purpose - it was an accident yesterday.
4 medium mining lasers is really the limit on a class 7 Power Distributor even when grade 5 weapon focused, so I have a huge long range beam laser and a turret multicannon on each nacelle of the Cutter.
I've got enough credits for the additions to the fleet carrier I want and a budget for buying mined minerals from commanders who feel like doing some deep space mining on a fleet carrier expedition I'm planning for late September / October.
Todays haz rez mining trip is about trying something properly in the game I've not done before.
I also don't have time to start anything new on the faction BGS side of the game before I go offline for two weeks on holiday.

Can you recommend any really good platinum mining locations?
Anywhere that can be reached in one fleet carrier jumps is ideal.
I'm a little embarrassed. It seems I've deleted all but one of my plat mining bookmarks: Prua Dryoae MF-C d14-7 and that's a good way out: ~2 Kylies :(

I confess I've no idea why I did this - it seems wierd considering I've kept a bunch of painite bookmarks.

Sorry!

PS It's pirate free

Thanks for looking. It would be useful if there was such a thing as a super hotspot you happened to know. Macua 2 wasn't bad despite being well know so long as you keep away from the haz res there.

So, the haz rez is great fun until it's more than two ships on you at once, and then you run away or get murdered :ROFLMAO:
