What can a Fleet Carrier add to the Game?

Greetings,

Lots of negative threads on the Forum about how FCs are not working. I'll get to that later in this post...

Fleet Carriers are all about how every player decides how they are going to play ED using them. Some will not choose wisely. For me it is a mobile base taking all my ships and toys (I still store many of my lesser builds and gear at the home base in Beta-1 Tucanae...Take your best shot) without having to be restricted to a personal planetary base moving anytime I desire. In that regard the Frontier Devs came up with a brilliant solution not having to deal with player personal planetary bases.

Going for a Guardian or Thargoid site 1200LY away from the bubble? I no longer have to fly a dedicated ship 20 jumps to get there and back to the bubble. Bringing dedicated ships to deal with either especially Thargoid combat and weapons is much easier. Want to meet others in my squadron bringing the right ships for PvP combat support in a wing defending new players in say Deciat? Well we cannot always fix lack of game experience with new players.

Meanwhile PvPers can also load up a wing of experienced Open players in their FC going to Deciat and replenishing them. They don't really care about the new player. That is the bait. They will be looking for us defending them! Welcome to ED. I love it.

What does it cost? With a billion credits dedicated to the FC I could quit this game for two years before needing to add more funds to the FC. With normal game play not talking about recent LTD mining I can make a billion credits in about 11 hours not even pushing it but I spent a lot of time getting the ships engineered to pull it off, factions allied and flying experience. No doubt some players do a lot better. Just enjoying the game.

Then there are other players who thought the FC was a solution to explore any part of the galaxy. When this doesn't quite work out they are not happy. It is not about the FCs. So many players over the years came up with their own expectations of what they expect in the game but limit their ED game per the rules they made up. Then rant on the Forum when they don't like the results.

Perhaps taking a risk playing ED, meeting friends online or joining an Inara group (there are hundreds) to support you. Getting on Discord comms with many trying to figure it out in Solo mode. Playing ED it works a lot better with friends versus Solo. Just be careful who a player makes friends with. There are awesome players out there willing to help and many more wanting to kill you. Experience with help from friends is what you should look for. You decide.

Regards

I LOVE my Fleet Carrier. I joined the game probably a month before the FC patch dropped. I learned quickly that there was no such thing as storage or a garage of some sort to house all my future fantasized ship and modules. I was content with that fact. I was a brand new player with a love for Sci-fi and the future burdens I faced didn't mean anything because I loved the game from the get-go. But then I heard about Fleet Carriers coming. Oh god. WHAT A GAME CHANGER.

Having your entire fleet of ships on you at all times. Storage for modules, you can now swap parts on the fly regardless of situation without needing to make multiple stops across the bubble with ships and modules spread about. What ease! Fleet Carriers have only served to deepen my love and time dedication to this game. I'm currently unlocking all the engineers and outfitting a bunch of my favorite ships, dedicating each to specific aspects of the game, preparing to set sail into the deep black of space to plant my name across multiple star systems and uncover what remains a mystery.

Some may say that Fleet Carriers have made things a bit too easy. That maybe they cheapen the experience and struggle that most veteran Commanders have endured during the game's slow trek to it's current iteration. And I can see how they may feel that way. Nevertheless, I can't help but enjoy this streamlined experience they offer and I hope they continue to expand on them and add more mechanics to Fleet Carriers, making them less like mobile station while adding more personal touches.

I've already done away with heavy A rated frameshift drives on my combat builds. My FAS Corvette Cobra mk3 and of course my FDL now have D rated fsds cos my carrier takes them to the scrap.
Also took the time to do something about excessive power on the above ships. Now all at 99% usage. More speed less heat and quicker shield regens.
My fdl linked below is the result of alot of mucking about. She runs at just 15 degrees hehe.
Having a carrier is perfect. Engineering is a doddle.
Parking up on a cz and soloing it in any of my ships makes life easier.
Carriers are now essential.

Carriers have a lot of greatness to add to the game, both from a single player convenience perspective but also a social perspective. It is just a shame they put such a wedge in the general ED machinery. The carriers should be removed again and worked through properly. Try again FD, third time will be the charm.

:D S

As I see it get decent abilities to farm Tritium in the black and maybe a better ratio with the FC fuel/jump range. Then Fleet Carriers and players flying them will have many more options. Not like Frontier in the past ever gave us something useful without figuring a way to apply a limitation to every ship. Some of these Devs are evil! Seems that they are doing the same with FCs. We'll see...

Having a storage solution for commodities at long last, is literally a game-changer and makes the whole FC ownership thing worth while for me, finally we can,

Keep hold of and accrue commodities to sell at a convenient time,
Build up substantial amounts of mined items to sell efficiently,
Hold small amounts of mission-type "source and return" commodities to make these fairly well paid missions just part of normal travel,
Collect up rare commodities without having to sell immediately, which makes this trade fun and viable again,
Collect illegal and stolen goods with less carry-in-ship time for selling in bulk, with minimal risk,
Collect and slowly hoard all those mysterious curiosities such as, Thargoid Probes, Precious Gems, AI Relics, Antiquities...

The supposed “main” features, The Shipyard, Outfitting and Commodities Market are practically unusable due to the dumbed-down packages of ships and modules and the pricing constraints of the market.

So I pretty much paid 5 Billion credits (200k per ton) - for the obvious game feature of commodity storage, which is brilliant while being a touch pricey.

15,000 ly's out of the bubble with all my ships on board I am loving my carrier.
I can now take my time exploring a area and see my new discover tags, something I couldn't see before.
by chance I was visited by a commander out exploring that needed some repairs, My carrier fixed him up we had a nice talk and off he went.
Nothing like taking your home wherever you go.

Before FCs it took me an explorer Orca on the Neutron highway in my second PC account to get to Colonia. Then costing me major credits to transfer my combat Corvette and my trading Cutter. A fleet carrier makes this easier at a lower cost...Just add Tritium.

Giving my alts enough money to get into an A rated small that suits the occupation I have chosen fort them.
Gathering what commodities I can and storing them for those alts to unlock engineers and tech broker items.
Moving my alts to the guardian sites so they can obtain one of the most useful modules in the game. The Guardian FSD booster.
A place to call home in some empty system on the edge of the bubble, 80K Ls from the main star. Pristine rings and Thargoids and pretty much no one else.

Plenty of uses for them. It's your game, figure a use for them or pass on them.

I keep a stock all tier 3 of limpet controllers hull reinforcements modules etc shield boosters and cargo bays.
My carrier is open to anyone even naughty folks and their my customers.

I have zero issues or problems with FC's. If they make some players happy...great. But, they add nothing to the game for me. Absolutely nothing, and thats fine.
