The free Arx are not to reward players for playing the game though, their sole purpose is to incentivise buying Arx packs because on its own if someone is partial towards skins and other customisation stuff it's not enough to get the higher quality items - the current 12 Days of Christmas promotion is a great example of that, and it adds the FOMO factor on top of that (due to the time limited and high-priced special edition skins) - iirc the free Arx in total were about 3000-4000, whereas a single Chromed/Golden skin costs 5,500 or thereabouts. I know it all too well because it used to work on me like a charm in the past. The only issue I have with "free arks for logging in" is that some people will just log in, get the free arks and log out, it doesn't necessarily add to the gaming population. It would be much better if extra arks was available as we have outside this period. The problem with the current system is that I can usually log in the day after reset, sell my data and I have my 400 weekly arks, it doesn't take me more than a day or two to gather the amount of data I need to do that. Give me an extra trickle, 10 arks per hour of play on top of the 400, that would reward players who do play a lot, and the ones who log on and do a bunch of missions to get the 400 arks can still do that.
So once you reach the 400 selling data, ding missions etc, that stops and the only way to get extra is to actually stay on and play. Of course that won't stop people logging in and just leaving it logged in, but there are going to be problems no matter what system you use. maybe limit the extra arks to a certain length of time, 10 hours and it stops, so you get an extra 100 free arks per week for playing the game.
My son got a lot of mileage out of Dyson Sphere Program, so if Factorio is your sort of thing I recommend giving that one a look too, if you haven't already. I would have played but I don't have the time and it's unfortunately only single player (probably fortunately for my son though lol)Well, for a legit great game that's still in the space genre, I'd recommend Outer Wilds. Don't confuse it with The Outer Worlds though, or if you do be sure to post complaining about it being awful so I can have a giggle. If genre is flexible, try great games in a few other genres: Baba is You, Factorio, Terraria.
I share your assessment of the other space games. Not excusing FDev (ok a little bit), but I think the Odyssey issues are being addressed, it's just a matter of time and patience unfortunately. For me, Odyssey is getting to where it needs to be but it still has ways to go, especially getting it on console.i would like to know an alternative for ED ?, i have played X4 lately but dropped it in favour of ED. the things i dislike on X4 are the very complex UI with functionality behind which doesn´t really work in lots of cases, and flying in an 2D space in front of a wallpaper. Also i dislike the graphics in NMS, and the business model of SC. What i´am looking for is a space simulation with flying in a complete universe and somehow believable physics, no shooter. For my expectatios Elite in its pre Odyssey state was perfect, but now with introducing basic errors to the game my frust level seems to exceed the enjoyment. what is this Bethesda thing mentioned in this thread, sorry but i do not follow gaming industry news ? thx

But if you use my code to get an account I get extra lives for my Candy Crush game... I mean.. oh.Literally the only non-combat content he has with SC 1) carrying a box from A to B, and 2) mining. Both are at least as shallow as ED gameloops, in a single tiny star system, with even worse performance than EDO and far, far more bugs and crashes. Ignoring all other issues, no sane person plays SC because "EDO doesn't have enough non combat content".But if he is having fun, good for him!
So in that context your suggestion is kind of counterproductive from Frontier's point of view.

Satisfactory on Steam
Satisfactory is a first-person open-world factory building game with a dash of exploration and combat. Play alone or with friends, explore an alien planet, create multi-story factories, and enter conveyor belt heaven!store.steampowered.com
That's not ever going to happen as it doesn't make sense. Not directed to you but it's an interesting pincer complaint that I see many people have: Odyssey isn't integrated enough to the base game vs. FDev need to roll back to 2.4. My point being is that for someone who 'just' wants space stuff there is still a lot in Odyssey to enjoy but absolutely nothing has been taken away from Horizons, and before anyone says 'planetary tech', please.. Odyssey is inordinately better than Horizons in that regard.A roll back to 2.4 would probably get my friends and I back into ED...
As a lifelong player and fan of the Elite series I will even wait and see if Elite Deadly returns to formula before I bought in. Such is our complete lack of interest in the current game and lack of trust in the next one.
Why should people who enjoy playing a game be rewarded with the equivalent of 0.6 cents, is the fun itself the reward? And why would people who dont enjoy it play for 0.6 cents? Genuine question, who but young children care about this stuff? And if some adult truly bases his gaming choice on whether he gets less than a cent, isnt that indicative of a situation that probably warrants doing other stuff than gaming?Give me an extra trickle, 10 arks per hour of play on top of the 400, that would reward players who do play a lot,
True, but I don't think free ARX of any sort will do that - if you're not already playing the game, extra cosmetics aren't a lot of use to you.The discussion is how to increase the player base, that is "what can the devs do to grow the population", not, how to earn FDEV more money. In fact in the end it may actually increase spending on the game, who knows, but that's not the subject.
Ideally any form of bribe to make players log in and play the game shouldn't be necessary if the game is entertaining enough to play. The discussion is how to increase the player base, that is "what can the devs do to grow the population", not, how to earn FDEV more money. I think Odyssey goes a long way to adding player interaction and what FDev has put in place with Odyssey has a lot of potential for substantially more. The main issue with Elite Dangerous right from the beginning was that it was mainly a single player experience with random player encounters. Frontier for an unknown reason never liked the idea of much player interaction beside combat, so many options to interact with other players or even friends have been restricted or disabled:
- no Credit exchange
- no material and data exchange
- bounties on players heads are limited first to 1 million, later to 2 million
- engineered ships and modules can't be sold or just handed over to other pilots
- . . .

Nice, I will let him know about that. Cheers!![]()

In terms of what might actually work I'm not sure there's anything better in the short-to-medium term than what they've said they're doing: fix and finish Odyssey, release it on consoles, re-merge the instancing between the two versions.
1. Not enough content. They added even more potential to a game with limitless abilities, but none of that potential has been tapped. Instead, gameplay was replaced with even more grind.
- What is going on with the game currently that drove away players that we've had in the past years
- Why did Odyssey's new features/offerings (not talking about bugs, just the features) not have a greater impact on the game
- What can the developers do to bring in new players/increase new player interest
- What can the developers do to bring back older players who are not playing
