What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

Asian Water Buffallo and Asian Small Clawed Otter? ;) I mean, I know it's yet another week cut I'm sure you can prepare a bit or doe something in between.
Hmm, maybe. Maybe this'll be one of those zoos I manage to add a new animal. Yeah, that'll work. Thank you, Swjos.

Actually, maybe I'll start a new zoo to have an excuse to use the platypus😆. Montego Bay is at its limit. But where to build it?

This morning I built my Okapi habitat with the tropical dome in the background, finally. Not entirely sure whether I'm going to keep it this way, but I do really like the custom fence I used. Also, would this be a realistic zoo habitat? I'm not sure whether the trees would usually be fenced in for the Okapis because they'd just eat it all up otherwise. I have found a few reference pictures from zoos which didn't cut off access to the trees for these animals, so I kept it this way, but I might still change it.

The keepers can't access any of this habitat btw, no matter what I do, so I just gave up trying to correct their traversable area. It doesn't even show a single blue stripe at the entrance, even though they can enter the habitat and deliver the animals, so I have no idea. Maybe a bug 🤷‍♂️
Absolutely awesome Enclosure. Regarding the Trees: you don't need to worry about it. When I've built a Okapi Enclosure once, I've did some Research on a Website about Okapis and it turns out, for some Reason they only seem to eat Monocotyledons (Grasses, I think Banana Plants too....)

Stunning work @PeppyPepp ! And I'm glad you found your love for an older project again, this totally seems worth it!

Thanks!

Right? I even found fresh YouTubers and that's before the DLC announcement. I don't know why, but it feels like PZ is rising again all of a sudden and the community is growing again. I have no logical reasons for it, but I love it.

Wooo, would you mind recommending some of these Youtubers? I have trouble finding those who play franchise or challenge mode.

You mad man, building for the spectacled caiman before the capybara and ASCO. Truly a power move
But in general, a very beautiful zoo! Keep up the good work and i cant wait to see more ^^

Thanks!
Actually...and I'm a little embarrassed to say this, but I totally forgot about the capybara. 🤦‍♀️

Wow, @PeppyPepp, real creative work. The Australia pack really has some of my favorite pieces. And I love your "Croc Rock".

Thank you. It really does. :)

And I just realized the lighting really doesn't do my pictures justice.

As I said the other day, I've been moving many animals around in my zoo:

-The Malayan tapirs now live with the orangutans in the former dhole habitat
-The dholes now live in the former fallow deer habitat
-The fallow deer now live in the former Malayan tapir habitat
-The former orangutan habitat is empty, but it will probably become the water buffalo habitat
-The Komodo dragons and the flamingos have swapped habitats
-Peafowls are stil in their original habitat, but will move soon too, probably with the flamingos
-The iguanas have been relocated to the America section and their old terrariums will have now European amphibians in the Eurasian zone

With all these changes, all the Indian animals now live in the same area, and the entrance of the zoo has become the Eurasia area (yeah, I know India is part of Eurasia, but since I didn't plan too much before building the zoo, these two areas are now separated by Australia and the night house :ROFLMAO:)

How about a zoo set in California, with a platypus obtained from San Diego?

(Mostly) Finished the Borneo House! Orangutans are in, roof is on. Keep in mind that I didn't put much effort into the interior because, well, I hate working on interiors.

Here is the front of the house.

Here we see the bland interior. It's annoying, I like the little middle thing I made, with the education boards above facing downwards, but they're "ToO FaR AwaY" so I keep getting those annoying notifications. What I'd love to do, if I was more artistically inclined, is line the back wall with billboards with educational material about Borneo and the animals.

Proboscis monkey interior view. Not a great shot but the way it's made makes it difficult.

And for the orangutans

Then, of course, the outdoor habitat of the orangs. The second screen is a shaded rest area that I hope they'll use. The raised viewing hut is flush up against it.

The fence in the water is actually a habitat barrier with climbproof turned on. I figured it worked here because the proboscis monkey does actually swim, so a moat isn't particularly effective as a barrier on its own
Oh my gosh - I don't use the climb proof feature either - that's why it looked different to me, never used that so now i will have to try that too :ROFLMAO::LOL:

And PeppyPEPP - that Australian Zoo scenery is brilliant - the colours are just beautiful (couldn't quote for some reason)

Sorry for the triple post - but I cannot insert quotes when I try to edit - and every time you say 'Montego Bay' I see Monterey Bay and I started building the huge aquarium complex of Monterey Bay and now I'm gonna have to restart that too now :)- and also pining for a true Aquarium pack with Dolphins, Manitee's, Dugong's, Manta Rays, sharks, Turtles, whales - of many sorts and underwater perspex tunnels - and the missing scenery from the new DLC - and Martha's Vineyard/Amity scenery - with mangrove Estuary plants, assortment of loggery and seaweeds and kelps . . .

Ok, after a day of getting dizzy in the hot sun, inspiration has hit me like a man hitting mosquitos, and I got it: Quell's Covert.

"What's that?", you ask?

Lemme explain, in the form of lore:

Hello, hello, hello. My name is Sue Kiper. I am the CEO of the International Association of Zoos and Parks (IAZP). We've noticed your success, Mr. Quell, and we have a daunting request for you, if you accept.

You see, we at the IAZP need a master (if a bit unorthodox) zookeeper to build and run a zoo with rare, endangered species and species hard to acquire in captivity. Your goal is to establish successful breeding programs for many animals so that we can reintroduce them to the wild and reestablish good numbers.
Many have tried, many have failed. That's why we ask you, a true zoo tycoon, to please help us. We have nowhere else to go.
Please message me if you are interested
.

Sincerely,
Sue Kiper

I finally got rid of that giant abomination that was the shelter for the giraffes, nyalas and cape buffaloes in the first section (the tropical+grassland area) of my safari zone. I made this building that had a walkway through it for viewers, as well as large sleeping and feeding spaces. After it was done, it had not turned out at all how I imagined and was this huge eyesore in the middle of my park. But I had already spent a lot of time on it and designed some nicer things in the area around it, so I could never quite bring myself to tear it down again.

Yesterday, I finally did it. Just deleted the entire thing, minus the staff building and giraffe-themed garden that were attached to it, I liked those. I reduced the size of the enclosure by the area where it stood, too.
Instead, I built 2 smaller shelters in 2 areas of the habitat (it is quite large), one for the giraffes with side rooms for the smaller animals, and one smaller stable just for buffaloes and nyalas. In place of the former building is now a little plateau with a beautiful, small outlook post for viewers, and enough space for an entire new habitat! (That's how big that freaking building was.) I am thinking about moving the warthogs and maybe the aardvarks there.

And putting the new stables on different ends of the enclosure had the positive side effect that the animals spread much better than before! They started using areas they completely avoided before, and blockades of the safari cars have been reduced, too! Also with all these additions, the enclosure is actually getting somewhat close to being finished, which would be huge, since it is the third biggest enclosure in my park and has been unfinished for ages.

I will post some pictures once I am done! Maybe I can finish it over the weekend.

I have done a very similar shaded rest area for the orangutans way back when the game launched! Back then they used it very frequently, which I was very happy about. I have to admit that I never built anything for them again, because I don't really like their model too much.

I agree, the model is really offputting, but in this case I'm willing to ignore it for the effect of the Borneo House. There aren't really any other primate combinations that work the same way (gorillas and mandrills maybe, but I already have mandrills, and I already have plans for gorillas, too).

I think when I play again this weekend I'm going to redo the building itself, though. As much as I hate interiors I know I can do better, and even the exterior isn't as good as it could be IMO (I didn't put much effort into the roof). I also might do a bit more work on the orang side, with more ropes (seriously, I wish we had 8m ropes - the vines are cool but I like a more realistic artificial aesthetic).

From my side, preparations for the wetland pack are going strong.
I decided that i want the red crowned crane as the first habitat in my zoo, aswell as maybe a southamerica house with the caiman and the capybara and propably skip the rest for the time being besides maybe the leechwe (cause its gorgeous) and the otter (cause they should fin practically anywhere.
As you can see, our paid 5 star high quality actor allready does a good job as a stand in while im working on the fence. They share their implied shelter on the right with red pandas that i would exchange in a hearbeat for chinese muntjak if i could, because they are quite "fun".
Anyways, i imagined this to be a small, japanese styled "area" (its really just 2 habitats and a bit of foliage), maybe a passion project, maybe a kind of gift (i saw multiple zoos that got a small japanese or chinese style garden gifted to them, for example the zoo duisburg) but in any case a nice lowkey thematic area for the cranes. Their shelter also serves a secondary function as a second keeper entrance for the bison on the other side of the river, using the stepping stones in the water to cross the small river.

The "Fun" Bear in its natural habitat. Where it really should not be

Another shot from the otherside with my bison in the background

And lastly another nice big shot, because if you allready clicked on spoilers, why shouldnt iflex with the view across the prariedog habitat that im really proud of?
Now with extra waterfalls in the back and a seating area that seperates into a viewing area for a future lion habitat.
prep wet 2.jpeg

And thats it! If you have feedback or cool idears i could do in the future with this zoo, pls tell me, i would love to hear it

Added a little play place themed around South American wildlife. Between this, the parrot perches, and the upcoming capybara habitat, I guess that this is the closest thing Nola has to a children’s zoo.
That looks really cool, though I wouldn't want my kid running around that sandbox with all those rocks sticking out of the ground. 😅 Recipe for head injury right there!

In other news, I think I'm going to start a new zoo, but I'll keep working on my main one when I have the chance. Since my partner has gone back to work off maternity leave my dad responsibilities have increased so I don't have much time to play, but the new zoo would be much less detail-intensive meaning I can get more done more quickly. So I should hopefully have something to show for that this afternoon.
