What did you think about the Dev Diary Format ?

This is a thread to give impressions about the format that the Dev Diary reveals are taking. And only that (please !)
What did you think? Good idea, bad idea ? Did it convey information well enough?

Personally, I found it engaging and very professionally put to together so that it kept me interested from beginning to end. Crisp cuts between three devs giving snippits of information (we can't expect detail just yet, can we?) and plenty of eye candy.

It's main purpose is likely to whet the appetite of potential new purchasers, and I'd say it's doing that very well. Keeps us alert for the next Diary and keeps the forums active with chat. (y)

Whereas the Livestream afterwards was a complete let-down, overdominated by the CM and imparting practically no information ...... quite the contrast !

Dev Diary is fine, though I can see they are designed to string this "reveal" out over weeks or even months. The livestream, however, was a waste of time and bandwidth (I'm still downloading MSFS, LOL). I think it's bad form to hide 1 minute of "news" (things like "you get to tag a planet by walking on it") inside 60 minutes of non-news. Thankfully I can wait for OA to boil down that 60 minutes into a nice "get to the point" presentation.

Oh, and Dev Diaries are available on YouTube, which is a far superior streaming platform for me than Twitch is.

Are you talking about the five minute vid or the hour long blather stream?

Because if it's the former, I rather liked it due to the relevant information (to me) was right there, rather than having to sift through the tea leaves of an hour's worth of irrelevant banter.

Overproduced hypefodder.
Would rather a REAL Dev Diary.
"Just managed to hook the dangleflange to the precipitation post-generator
<Screen Shot>"

The whole idea behind it is hype generation though. Look round the forum it worked really really well.

But you've already said in another thread that Odyssey doesn't interest you.

Lol, even on people who claim not to be interested.

The former.

I missed the livestream transmission and wondered why I could find no comments about it in the forum afterwards. When I watched it later, I realized why ... it was best forgotten.

I didn't think it was really a Dev Diary as we knew them in Beta. It was mainly a promo video with a few tantalising bits of information.

If that had of been coupled with the livestream and the livestream delved into the specifics and details behind it (like all the other Discovery Scanner streams have) then it would have worked quite well I think.

I hope that for the next one the video is a bit more informative and the livestream is focused entirely on information that we haven't yet had about the design decisions and processes. Or rename the stream so as not to tarnish the Discovery Scanner streams.

The forums very often don't discuss livestreams (I think maybe forumites are waiting for the betamax release :) )

There were a couple of interesting points:

1) Why planet-legs? Because DBOBE is an astronomy nut and wanted that experience. And he felt that was what had been promised in the kickstarter. Which is fair enough - it's the best explanation I've seen so far.

2) A new Elite (Exo-Biologist). Not mentioned elsewhere AFAIK. A strange choice for a 5th Elite, and I already added my suggestion to make it a more general Research Elite & add other codex finds under that heading. ofc it may mean they are adding many more Elite Rankings (people have asked for them), but no idea and will be interesting to see.

Could have done without 3 repeats of the Dev Diary, but hey - they've been starting to do that recently.

The initial 4:xx minute dev diary came over to me more as a limited showcase instead of an actual dev diary.
I expected more but I've made that mistake before.

I liked the Dev Diary, of course I wanted more but I saw enough to be very curious about the planetary/lighting tech especially.
Edit: It was a good overview, hopefully future diaries give more focus to specific features.

The Discovery Scanner was NOT a Discovery Scanner. Previously they have been led by the dev going a specific element in detail, this was not that (might be worth the CMs watching one of the previous DS episodes for context)
Far too much waffling and honestly wasn't worth the time for the tidbits of new info. I actually stopped watching and skipped through the replay later for the useful bits.
A brief write up following the dev diary would've sufficed.

It was reasonably good, relatively short and to the point which was nice. Would always welcome a few more details, that would be better, but keeping it pretty tight and on point was appreciated.

I've found working through the livestream rather more, err, dull, I'd quite like more information and less 'this is all really exciting' - I mean sure, it is exciting, we are getting an update and I really appreciate that, and I'm appreciate you appreciate the community and so on, that's why we're all here. So, maybe, bit more info, if any, and a bit less waffle? As much as I like waffles..

Dev Diary - wasn't a Dev Diary, it was Odyssey Trailer#2
Yeah, fair enough.

Discovery Scanner - wasn't a Discovery Scanner, it was a trailer discussion
Space Legs ... aren't in Space
yup

I'd support a Research/Science ranking

Definitely

DD - I loved it. Didnt expect much 'reveal' at this stage just glimpses to tantalise. Diary wasnt just visuals but words and some of the words spoke to me and I was sold 100%. I dont worry about how it turns out, if thats the desire behind it then I'm behind them. Fdev will deliver something then they will build on it.

LS - never my thing but watched as Odyssey related. Expected even less real info as its far too early. Maybe more significant fluff would cover the gap better but a CM can only convey what they are allowed to and look at the trouble when hes gone off an exactly worded script before and tried to answer something. A lot of the chat was abusive or demanding as well so reading that while presenting cant have been easy. I thought it was a much better effort at speaking to me as a customer and player even though they could actually say next to nothing.

If theres stuff not happening at launch they could do with being clear now though, the problem is if they want to easter egg something at launch a series of yes/no answers will isolate and identify it, if adult players cant handle the news then they never could so may as well be told now so the rest of us just know and accept it isnt happening at launch, maybe never but at least we know.
