What did you think about the Dev Diary Format ?

I got to see actual in game footage. That made it worthwhile.
Beware the smallprint (underneath the red line) ....

I agree with Factabulous. I felt the Dev Diary #1 was quite slick but it was a promotional / trailer video aimed at drawing in new people rather than aimed at the existing core commander that's been here for a while.

What rang alarms for me was the use of the term "Pre Alpha Development Footage" when they showed us 'in game video'. Surely they have something by now that's a bit closer to actual release candidate video, if not of actual game play that they want to tease further, but of the vista's shown.

It Was good to see DB OBE interviewed but I wasn't at all impressed with the rest of the followup livestream. The only additional information given was the reveal of the 'Exo-Biologist' rank, (this is an old term as it is now known as Astrobiology according to Wikipediea).

And finally I was left thinking.....is that it.....is that all we're going to see today, that doesn't bode well for the future as looks like it's going to be a long grinding reveals process.

I liked it. Nothing wrong with well produced teasers.

I always loved the graphics and sound design. They deserve a spotlight.

Hope we see something similar about gameplay mechanics and personal narrative.

Dev diary was actually more polished than i expected, as thought would be very basic due to covid restrictions.

As for the Discovery Scanner. I think it was a breach of trade descriptions to call it that. Instead it was just Stephen gushing over things with the occasional snipet from the designer. I personally felt a bit insulted by its banality.
Previous Discovery scanners were a great insight into the work the devs do and gives people an appreciation of their skills and the complexity of actually developing things.
At the very least i would have liked the Designer to have been given time to explain how the design process has been working for Odyssey and what their goals are. We got none of that.

Looks to me as if they’re going to be a series of small presentation videos.
The twitch stream was utterly pointless . But well done to stephen for being a happy chappy.
Flimley

I liked the second teaser - sorry "Dev Diary" - but thought it a little light on Dev insight. The Livestream 'Deep Dive' I felt to be a little less than that, although the Braben interview was welcome.
I hope the next issue of each is improved over this one - but have no real criticism allowing for the restrictions currently in place.

Very professional with a strong marketing touch. I'd prefer a more hands-on approach, more technical, more devs. Heads are excited because marketing tells them to be. Ideally people doing the actual work are excited because they want to show off their work.

The Dev Diary, slicker than I expected under current circumstances, was little more no more than another trailer with some Devs talking nebulously over it. My personal feelings are that when Dr Kay is on screen the whole world should shush for a while and learn some interesting stuff ( other Devs are included in this but Kay always delivers for me.) So to see what I assume is the reveal roadmap limit us to these snippets is a real shame - perhaps we’ll benefit from the Devs being given more time in the future but this one was just frustrating.

The stream; went along all too familiar lines for me. I’d love to see the CMs learn the art of allowing others to speak rather than filling any momentary silence with lots of words.

I don’t mean this to be any kind of personal attack. Its a plea for more of an interviewing style, ask a question that your guest can answer, elaborate on and allow them the time to do so. Too often ( television shows included) we get a presenter asking questions in such a way that they virtually answer for the guest leaving them with little else to say.

In terms of what we saw - I’m suckered in, I thought it looked great. Even though I spent the whole time thinking (and I will say this ) “I‘m going to spend my whole time playing this wishing I could do it in VR.” There, said it - to hell with you all;)

Also, I simply cannot wait to achieve ‘Hand-scanner‘ Elite so I can look with pride on my right hand panel. *Please recognise this for being the cheapest sarcasm I could muster. I’m not against the activity or the codex entries but filling our UI and so on with more and more stuff doesn’t fill me with excitement - system maps filled with FC soon to be joined with ‘Cmdr Whatshisface stopped to water the flowers’ on every other planet.

I don’t doubt I’m in a minority.

Didn't watch either........forgot!..........or maybe I just don't care anymore & will wait until the New Era stuff is released.

I'v no intention of buying a ticket to ride Frontier's ficticious hype train.

I felt it was too focused on the visuals, all praise and not much show. Needed more content reveals and discussion on the technical aspects.

I like the 4 minute Dev Diary (Trailer).
The live stream with DB OBE was fine -I always like to hear what he has to say.

Unfortunately the rest of the stream was disappointing (actually I found it damn annoying) - too much 'ooh it's really great', 'what's your favourite colour' sort of stuff, and not a lot of depth.

It's the first one, so hopefully they will improve - if not, I'll be fast forwarding through it again, which would be a shame, as important little bits of info may get missed.

Honestly? I don't care.

Call it professional bias but anything less than: "we have added X feature (screenshot/short vid) and currently performing tests. And yes, it stays in game." I treat as pure marketing and wishful thinking. I could count on one hand (while holding a beer) cases where developers announced something and delivered exactly as promised. Otoh there are numerous evidence of pure marketing , grand plans that turned as usual, wishful thinking and reality charming just to show how we are excited to introduce this and that and how it will be grand and revolutionary.

Until I get final product I'll remain sceptical and will treat dev blogs, diaries, updates and whatever it's called as a marketing speech.

This was the problem: substance.

FD should have had the trailer / dev thing but actually have a deep dive into what we just saw- we have devs saying 'its new and improved!'- well how? Update the 'building a World' deep dive from before and go through how EDO makes EDO better- its adding value to what we have seen and not spoiling anything.
