Can't go wrong with the classics.

More traditional firearms would be a nice touch. Make them more available on the galactic fringes. Colonia, Pegasi, places where folks have to improvise to survive.
Would love to see a version of that animation where they misjudge the gravity and one of the cartridges slides back and jams the closure. Can't go wrong with the classics.

& That's how you ruin a gun.
As you know the EDRPG and Elite Encounters RPG has modern cartridge firearms coexisting witch energy weapons but on "Traditional" firearms, they don't need to be just a galactic fringes thing, after all Kamorin Historic Weapons wont be the only producer of old school weapons just the premier one.
Just as today we have the likes of Pedersoli and Uberti and many others making Period firearms for the modern user
The old FFE journals when talk about hunting around the Galaxy still have hunters using Mausers (one images in 9.3x72r) and one mentions the hunting rules are "Projectile weapons only (no lasers), nothing bigger than a .303 and no more than twenty rounds per person per week, maximum." for Exoician Polar Bear Hunting, O'Rourke Colony | Exoice
His Imperial Highness Harold probably carried some Holland and Holland or the Duval equivalent on his famous trip to O'Rourke Colony
That is what I want for my Cmdr, a nice Kamorin Double Rifle, and a SAA Clone for Hunting, and self defence for exploring the wilderness
It would be "bear legal" in hunting at my country. Somewhat light, but with proper bullet and shot placement would do its job.0.303 seems a little light for a bear but I suppose it depends on what bullet forms are allowed, the old school hunters probably would want a pair of double barrelled nitro express rifles.
Would love to see a version of that animation where they misjudge the gravity and one of the cartridges slides back and jams the closure.
The trouble with the double barrel breach loader is that you have to reload after two shots, something based round the metalstorm principle would be my choice for a firearm.
Can't go wrong with the classics.

Heavy hitting small calibre firearm with plenty of ammo capacity would be something I'd too think as futuristic enoughI mentioned very heavy, slow firing arms with few reloads earlier, but the tech of ED could actually take things the other way; very compact, portable, heavy hitting ammunition allowing for hi-capacity weapons, like FN's Five-Seven handgun, which is accurate at range and can hold ~31 rounds.
Anyways, as a gun nut I am really liking this thread, CMDRs; keep it coming!![]()
Wait - what spacelegs? When has FDev confirmed this is actually going to be a feature? Oh wait, they haven't... So what was the question again? Weapons for ships or ?Will we get firearms with Space Legs? Ray guns? Laser weapons a la Star Wars?
I personally think energy weapons with an overheating/cooling mechanic like the Mass Effect series would be interesting.
How do you think small arms would look in Elite Dangerous?
Weapons on legs is a terrible idea. Other than spurs, horns and pointy things for melee I dont expect any arms on the legs.
Get it? Arms on legs?!![]()
If same dev that designs ships going to design weapons you're pretty much on spotCucumbers

So long as the projectiles are persistent across modes... and without those silly range limits which only exist in the real world if you have atmosphere and/or gravity to slow them down. The best weapon for the vacuum of space would be a ball-bearing firing cannon. No gravity, instant terminal velocity, in both senses.
Broadside!
So, I'm predicting ball-bearing firing personal catapaults. Just sayin'...……………….
