Graphics were improving instead of being optimized. Here I am with $1300 in GPU's inside a $5,000 PC built for space sims and my favorite game is working towards being capable of running on a TI-86 with no plans to switch to DX12 and LiquidVR, despite the minimal effort required.

Graphical horsepower is going to be leaping ahead by huge amounts in the next couple years. If FD wants to keep Elite relevant and keep selling copies along with expansions they need to leap with it. The gameplay leaves a lot to be desired, they could at least help me forget that by changing the curtains and putting a few throw pillows here and there. Let's see those high quality textures come back. VRAM is cheap yet this game only uses 900mb at absolute maximum settings. I've got a 4 year old GPU with 3 times that amount that sells for $80 used and can run the game maxed out at 90fps inside the stations, sitting on the shelf collecting dust. Anyone playing ED could pick one up and stick it in overnight if they wanted to.

You need to move forward, FD, before Moore's law causes your game to be overshadowed before you're even finished with it. Let's see some more variation in shader models on planet textures, better celestial body geometry, more variety and activity in the asteroid fields, etc.... I know the baseline for hardware on ED is low, but you don't have to change low/medium settings as they are. Build up from here, and don't touch anything already established.

Edit: Oh, and Bobbleheads. Bring them back.
