What does it take to flip a system to a different controlling faction?

It isn't the home system of Interstellar Line that we are trying to gain. We're trying to restore a home faction in its own system. :)
My whole player group would fight tooth and claw for any system we have a presence in, the only thing that would stop us is a treaty, pre-set or even made after the fact. This "diplomacy" is actually a very cool part of the game and something that would be sadly missing from an "off line" version of the game. I think of it like an epic boardgame of "Risk"....

There being something over 800 PMFs ingame, many for 2.5 years now, there's a lot of abandoned ones. Add to that the...whole lot who put no emphasis on playing in open, regional instancing chances, etc, and it's not surprising.

This one apparently is semi-active. I fixed my Discord account, and got in touch with them. I guess we'll see what they say.

Its like an epic blend of risk.... and my all time favourite game Diplomacy.... except as well as the strategy and negotiation, you also have to enact the actions.

Oh no, there is an online version of Diplomacy..... I don't have the time...I don't have the time http://www.playdiplomacy.com/help.php?sub_page=Quick_Start

When I checked before I left the system yesterday, influence was up to 21.5%. I ran some more missions, and will check later today what the situation is (I left the area to go and do some bounty hunting elsewhere with a friend, so didn't complete a huge number of missions yesterday).

It seems to be a wasted effort to say the least. Now it's curtains for Labour of Seleru Bao. Obviously there is a plethora of folks playing against us.

I got a message back from the Commander who I gather is in charge of Interstellar line this morning:

We will inform you of our answer. Interstellar Line claims ``` 1. We have concluded an agreement with the surrounding PFs and we also declare that we will not advance to the PF-based star system independently. Seleru Bao advanced to there because there were no other PF at that time. 2. If you want to protect your own base, you should refute it when Interstellar Line is doing BGS operation at 3303/08 - 09, or cancel the 5 k ly jump and go back and intervene Could it be? 3. Cheap (15% discount) Is there a place where good product selection is also in other places? You can search by EDDB etc. ``` Therefore, we will take the following measures. ``` 1. Interstellar Line does not agree with control flip. 2. Instead, we will improve the selection by raising Inf of Seleru Bao's Interstellar Line. 3. Even if the assortment did not improve as a result of raising Inf, there is no plan to control flip. ``` The following is a warning. ``` 1. The BGS situation is always monitored for the star system managed by Interstellar Line. I also understand Inf fluctuation of Labors of Seleru Bao which is currently being done. 2. It is regrettable that Inf fluctuations of up to 20% occurred before consultation for our system under management. We will take countermeasure operations. ```

Frankly, I don't care for his tone, but I don't see beating him without a huge coalition of players, and a lot more free time of my own than I have.

Oh dam, I am so sorry.
If you are looking for a new home base to work the BGS then there are untouched systems out on the edge, where if you look at the traffic report that no one visits.
There are also lots of Fed player groups to join if want to have a huge coalition of players, the earth defence fleet jumps to mind https://inara.cz/wing/486/ not to fight for your system sorry, but to mean that you will not fight alone again.
In terms of roleplay, which I do, that is quite a good ongoing story for your character, as an exile who has fled the grip of an enemy corporation.

I'll live. I have a backup base in imperial space that's not too bad. I just liked Seleru Bao better because it was close to several decent systems.

Question: What does that guy get for his trouble, keeping interstellar line in power? Is it just the fact that "his" faction is in power and that's "winning" the game to him, or does he get access to something special by controlling this one faction? I don't really see what the point of shepherding a faction like this arbitrarily if it makes those systems less well off.

They might've a Lore written out for why they do what they do, incorporating each success or loss into their Wing's history (which is how we operate over here). And what does that guy or we get for our trouble? Why do we do the BGS at all, since we don't have any gain from it?

I don't know about everyone else, but I do what I do with my Wingmates because there might be a chance that the BGS in this game will become more then it currently is. More vibrant and changing on a daily basis.

Imagine that population numbers rise and fall if the various States take place. That a Wing that has a Minor faction has a income / upkeep that is to be used for various things. Repair their Stations after a War or Civil War for example.

Famine and Outbreaks could not just be static states. The longer either persists, the more violent the population would get. People would flee the System or die, leaving fewer around to rebuild and pay you. And so on and so forth.

Even now you can gain quite a bit from it.

You have your MF, build it up to be the dominant one in the System. But you also want to go beyond, reach into other Systems. Make your mark on the Galaxy. For to do so you have to maintain and balance where you are, meaning you have to work up other MF as well to meet yours for to initiate the takeovers you desire. Or bring other MF in other Systems into conflict / avoid their conflict to see your goals come true.

All the while by doing that you gain your credits. Work your Superpower ranks. Max out the Reputation with various MF which gives you the best missions available.

You never know what the next day might bring. Sure, there might be some periods of relative peace. But the moment you think everything is going on Autopilot, either the BGS itself or some Player throws you a curveball. And you need to react or risk to be delayed in your plans, or lose something you have to get back.

And finally it's the camraderie of those who do it with you that makes it something worthwhile for me.

What does one gain from playing the BGS?

All of the above, and more.

What do they get? Well everything that Coragaon said and there is a ongoing debate about elites “end game”. Some people say it is PvP, others say it is working the BGS.

I am in the BGS camp as I would have long given up on this game if not for this “ empire building” side of the game. I will be playing and pushing my faction right up to when they finally turn the lights out. [knocked out] (my heart breaks just thinking about it...)

Once players have more money than they can spend then pushing there own faction or killing other players is mostly what people do, exploring is an option that is way down most peoples list for late gameplay

Folks it might be better to leave any inter-group battles outside of this forum and focus more on the technicalities of the BGS which is our common interest (even if locked in struggle!). I would hate for this forum to become yet another battleground between groups.

I'm not saying that's happening here but posting diplomatic correspondence does open the door to it.
