I'll live. I have a backup base in imperial space that's not too bad. I just liked Seleru Bao better because it was close to several decent systems.
Question: What does that guy get for his trouble, keeping interstellar line in power? Is it just the fact that "his" faction is in power and that's "winning" the game to him, or does he get access to something special by controlling this one faction? I don't really see what the point of shepherding a faction like this arbitrarily if it makes those systems less well off.
They might've a Lore written out for why they do what they do, incorporating each success or loss into their Wing's history (which is how we operate over here). And what does
that guy or we get for our trouble? Why do we do the BGS at all, since we don't have any gain from it?
I don't know about everyone else, but I do what I do with my Wingmates because there might be a chance that the BGS in this game will become more then it currently is. More vibrant and changing on a daily basis.
Imagine that population numbers rise and fall if the various States take place. That a Wing that has a Minor faction has a income / upkeep that is to be used for various things. Repair their Stations after a War or Civil War for example.
Famine and Outbreaks could not just be static states. The longer either persists, the more violent the population would get. People would flee the System or die, leaving fewer around to rebuild and pay you. And so on and so forth.
Even now you can gain quite a bit from it.
You have your MF, build it up to be the dominant one in the System. But you also want to go beyond, reach into other Systems. Make your mark on the Galaxy. For to do so you have to maintain and balance where you are, meaning you have to work up other MF as well to meet yours for to initiate the takeovers you desire. Or bring other MF in other Systems into conflict / avoid their conflict to see your goals come true.
All the while by doing that you gain your credits. Work your Superpower ranks. Max out the Reputation with various MF which gives you the best missions available.
You never know what the next day might bring. Sure, there might be some periods of relative peace. But the moment you think everything is going on Autopilot, either the BGS itself or some Player throws you a curveball. And you need to react or risk to be delayed in your plans, or lose something you have to get back.
And finally it's the camraderie of those who do it with you that makes it something worthwhile for me.
What does one gain from playing the BGS?
All of the above, and more.
