What does this button do? I HAD to test the escape pods.

Is that the part where they kill your spouse and steal your baby?
Funnily enough I did a very similar thing (although luckily nowehere near as far to travel) except the way my thought process went was ... ahhh these must be the escape pods, 'E' to interact ... oh go on then, let's see what the options are ... and then, when I saw ESCAPE, interpreted that as being like the 'escape' key (i.e. cancel), and pressed it to get back out of the menu. You can imagine my surprise when I discovered that ESCAPE meant USE!
Just gonna file this one under "banana karma" for Vingetun blowing up my poor l'il ship 5-6 years ago.

Um - only person I remember blowing up was that pilot who was interdicting me when I was flying a type 6 and his seeker missiles turned around and got him after I went cold ;-)
Certainly only ever engaged in a bit of pilot on pilot action if the other party started it... ;-) Far too polite to go knocking on your canopy uninvited.
That's not how I remember it. There i was flying my l'il Viper MK III minding my own business when boom! Interdicted and ship went boom!
