What GPU do you have in your PC?

Running a laptop with AMD Enduro Tech, with a HD7970M as the Highpower card and Intel HD4000 as the low.

Runs fine,

I'm getting an HTC Vive Pre on release and needed a new video card. Just bought a 980Ti today after doing research for two solid days.

For those looking at the 980Ti line-up, check out this article. Shows all manufacturers and their standings.

I'm an MSI video card advocate* (Twin Frozr & Afterburner work brilliantly to keep the GPU cool) and even their 980Ti's have a wide performance spread. I've never had an issue with any of their products. I got the Gaming 6G obviously, even though the others are roughly the same price.

I was looking at the Titan X, but could not justify the price for the extra 15% performance. When the prices come down on this card I'll buy a second one and run it in SLI mode for future proofing.

*I do not work for, or receive compensation from, MSI for this opinion. My last four video cards have been MSI and I paid for them myself.

Running an R9 270X overclokced with an AIO cooler on it. Plays at 60FPS 90% of the time with no noticeable lag, FPS drops a little on planets but doesn't affect gameplay.

I will upgrade when the new chips come out later this year to something that can handle VR, but I want to let the technology evolve a bit beforehand.

got a new Titan X <3

playing on ultra 2.00 Supersampling ,custom graphics tweak to make the game look better : P

My advice is wait if you can keep your wallet closed... Both Nvidia and AMD have new chips coming out this year. Both are going to be a big improvement on what is out now... ;)
Smart. As much as I am itching to "upgrade" my 290 (non X) the fact remains that I can still peg my monitor at 75fps and the worst I seem to drop is down to 55 - 60ish and that is under the most severe circumstances. Having a freesync monitor helps as well.

However, the Fury Nano is QUITE compelling if for no other reason than the 175W TDP compared to my 290's 275W TDP.

Then again, I think it would take me awhile to make up in electricity savings what I would spend on the Nano,,,,,, :p

I did note your other post stating that you were using 4.3Gigs of your 8GB memory on your 390. Are you running 1.5 or 2.0 sampling? and if so, how does that effect your FPS?

Aleksej (our forum mod here), was saying the same thing.

I had a look at those myself, and i saw the crafty GPU naming scheme that they did with the new cards... GTX1080 heh heh. ;)

They always have new improved chips coming, but you have to buy at some point. I'm getting mine now as the best time to buy anything retail is Jan / Feb. Prices may rise again once demand picks up (When the Vive/CV1 is released and everyone suddenly wants one) and the costs on the new tech cards will certainly not be cheaper than what I just paid. There is no guarantee that the new cards will not have 970'ish type issues. The 980 Ti I picked up is a solid performer, well rated and a decent price. It isn't the best, but it is within my budget and more than I need for now.

Once the card arrives, I have several months to sort out any issues before the Vive is released. I suspect it will have a few teething problems as well, so sorting out any GPU issues ahead of time will simplify my life significantly.

I appreciate the sentiment of what you are saying, but pulling the trigger now makes sense to me.

nVidia are launching their pascal cards and AMD are launching the Arctic Islands cards both by Q2 or Q3 this year. This new generation of cards have gone from the current 28 nanometer chip to a 14 nanometer chip. AMD are claiming at least a three times speed increase on their cards and nVidia have said the top-end Pascal cards will be up to 10x faster.

So I'd say wait.

While the top-end Pascal card is probably going to be £600-1000 like the current 980ti and Titan X models, the next gen equivalent of the 960 and 970 cards will be priced in the £150-270 price range, but give amazing performance compared to current gen cards.

If a current 960 and 980ti give 31.4 and 77.7 fps running Battlefield 4 in 2560x1440 on Ultra Quality then a GTX 960 equivalent Pascal card in the same price band, even if only 2.5x faster would be better than the current GTX980ti!!! So even if the new cards are more expensive, a £200 card will be better than the current £600 card.

These beasts were invented for VR. I'm hanging on for a new Pascal card to replace my GTX 970.

Geforce GT 740M

Elite Dangerous ran with more high settings before Horizons, still runs fine with some settings turned down a bit, though.
