What Happend to the Dream?

Again: everyone and their dog claims their opinion is what the majority want. I am sure you sincerely belief it to be true. I'm also sure you truly think that any game that doesnt cater to this perceived majority will fail. But it isn't true: with every year you claim FD must really change their ways or be doomed their sales report become more and more positive. Reality simply differs from what you expected. It can happen. But maintaining over and over that reality is wrong and your assumptions are right is just silly. :)

i can say 1 thing with confidence....
IF FD produced the game outlined in the DDF - or a fair approximation of it, i accept not everything may be practical - then the majority of the people FD pitched the game to to get it made would be happy... and I dare say if everyone else gave that game a fair shake, at least a good amount of them would like it too.

i still hope its coming, but a bit of a nod from FD confirming as much would be nice.

either way tho, i am confident ED is here to stay, at least for a few more years, with or without the updates that i myself pine for.

Now, let us get back to spending our time on the forum. We're BFFs now!
................

WHAT? Oh right you are new and innocent - this is the shark-pond that is called Dangerous Discussion or (insert pithy epithet describing vicious hand-to-hand dirty streetfighting).... - BFF? LOL [noob]

Of course I am only teasing - enjoy your innocence while it lasts. ;)

You can make it true....all you have to do is click your heels three times and wish for it!

Just because some players (who frequented the forums back then) thought that improving the current gameplay and adding meaningful content / in-depth missions, a better exploration loop, a more nuanced BGS, PP that tied into the rest of the universe, tier 1 NPCs that consist of more than a single JPG and can actually interact with with the galaxy on some level. CQC that actually rewarded players rather than dragging them kicking and screaming out of the universe to a hellish limbo-lobby for hours and hours for several hundred credits (Seriously, why bother with 1400cr or something? For a 15 minute victory... No, seriously, why?) Engineers that actually had more gameplay associated with them to gain their favour like missions and other tasks to perform, an SRV playstyle that was more than just bumping around blindly with a crippled scanner and shooting rocks with a "frickin' laser" after landing in a ship with a crippled scanner, or hunting for a surface feature without even being able to program latitude or longitude or being able to create a surface map or having mini ships that can do nothing but pew pew and couldn't, for example land on an S pad and deliver a data mission while the ship sits outside or somehow justifying 3D bloomin printing in a meaningful fashion or creating a proper looting and crafting tech tree rather than the flat, 1 Layer travesty that was released or added a storyline that doesn't totally rely on forums or 3rd party tools to collate information or getting rid of RNG upon RNG upon RNG thrown together with a Korean FTP level interface of bouncing sliders without even a pretence of gameplay or lore / immersion... or...

Just because some players wanted that sort of thing doesn't mean that FDEV have to deliver it... After all, they have already paid for the game so any efforts there would be just a waste of dev effort.... No, much more efficient just to add some cinematic trailers of commanders sauntering to their ships in the docking bay or ships in tight formation buzzing a space station while in combat and delivering a wall of JPGs and wordy "Universe is the limit" type expansive text content to try and fish for new players to help fund their third franchise which they all seem so chuffed about.

Me, cynical? Nah...

I approve.

What is it with these walls of text?!

I'm sorry, but personally when faced with a wall of text like this and no summary I'm not going to bother reading it as most of these things are just a rant (and I won't get that time back :) ). I've no idea if yours is. Maybe you could summarise?

More and More walls of text are appearing (not ALL from me) because players have got sick of saying "umm excuse me... errr I would be awfully grateful if you could see yourself to possibly altering a few things..."

to

running up the tallest building they can find and SHOUTING IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS!!!!

in the hope FDev eventually pays attention.

sorry, OP you wasted you time, move on to another game.

DB's dream and DB's game. Were they supposed to be similar? Or was it all mostly guff to get backers, sell a few copies and then stop?

If FDEv just produced the game outlined and SOLD in the KS and devblogs, that would be a START, adding parts from the DDF after that would be the cream on top.

ED will be here until not much longer after SC goes gold, and I think FDev knows this. In fact I'm certain of it.

You and I both brother.

Yes ED has made a lot of sales; so yes there must obviously be an influx of players, but... where are they? Have a look on any given day in the general discussion and there are clearly VERY FEW "how do I do X" threads started.

Please don't tell me that the game has already taught them what they need to know with great efficiency because I really will lose it if you do. You won't see it ofc because Zambrick told me not to.

When any game has lots of new players arriving or even a steady influx the forums ALWAYS reflect it - either the mods are extremely efficient at moving and or deleting threads asking the same questions because ppl couldn't be bothered to use the search function (which would be a world first)...

OR these threads just aren't being started.

Why is that?

are all these new players to the game immediate experts whom have read all the relevent posts on highwake / low wake / money / flying / interdictions etc etc etc and the hundreds of other things they should pay attention to...

or are more than a few of them buying the game, playing it for a bit, not really getting on with it for the myriad reasons already written by hundreds of other players and quitting without even giving feedback because they couldn't care less of a s...

SALES =/= PLAYERS.

and as the game gets older more of the *core* players and even the white knights, will move on. Some out of boredom, some from the incredibly slow realisation that the game won't reach it's potential in any meaningful timeframe and they aren't prepared to wait, and some because there are other spacegames already on thier way with better ACTUAL gameplay, rather than POTENTIAL gameplay.

Potential never realised is worth nothing.

We have a dedicated 'how do I do X' forum :)

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/75-Newcomers-Forum

Also there is the Galactic Academy Discord.

So, there are places for newcomers to have questions answered. Dangerous Discussion isn't the place where you're typically going to find a lot of newbie question threads.

the top post in that forum was started in 2015 and only has 13 reply's ........ seems like theres a tone of new people not using it

But it could have been an absolutely incredibly game. Maybe it still could be, but that would require a massive shift on how they are developing the game currently, and I have to say im not very optimistic.

Neither am i and i have quit playing too. Mainly because of the RNGineers debacle, but i sympathize with your other points too. I dont think FD really cares much about players like us, that actually want some depth to the game, its less work and probably more profitable to cater to the casual console crowd.
I think its imporant to remember, when scaling ones expectations, that FD is in it for the money, not the art.

"clans" already exist. They're just organized outside of the game, through Discord, Teamspeak and forums. These are player groups.

If you want this kind of game play, just find a playergroup that plays the BGS. The group I am in not only runs a couple of minor factions and made them among the biggest in the game, we've also been in a prolonged conflict with another player group.

Of course, because none of it makes GalNet, nobody really knows about it, but it is happening.

We can't yet pledge to a minor faction - please FD make it happen... - but otherwise, player groups that manage systems and assets already exist.

Does ED let players run a faction, now?? How? Last time I looked, the program runs every faction and players just get to role-play around it.

and made them among the biggest in the game

But what measure do you determine the size of a faction?

player groups that manage systems and assets already exist.

Manage systems??

Assets?? Like what, a space station? How does an ED player manage any asset except his ships?

Yeah, but they can also manipulate the back ground simulation to cause wars and expansions and such

But what measure do you determine the size of a faction?

My best guess would be, the amount of systems they are present in, combined with the number of stations the faction controls? Seems like a decent way to measure it.

I suppose they mean that they "manage" systems, using the back ground simluation, gaining control of new star ports, creating the conditions for expansions, causing other factions to retreat from territory.
