Newcomer / Intro What is te most effecient way to find that Mission related signal source?

As of right now it seems pretty random how these things spawn. My method is to scan nav beacon, super cruise close to planet/moon/star and orbit around in till it pops. This can takes seconds, sometimes many... many minutes. Heck, sometimes I never find it and just give up.

I love the profits from black box and Assasination missions but (for me) finding these MRSS's can be the most frustrating part of the game. There has to be a better way to do this... right? :|

I run a lot of these. The fastest way is have an Advance Discovery Scanner go to System where MRSS are located and scan as soon as you get there. Select location from Navagation (they have globes by them) and super cruise to it. Go head on to location until about 10Mm out. If not located yet then fly as close as you can to the location while circling it.

That's because it is rather random. As you can see from this and similar threads, everyone seems to have their own idea about what makes them spawn. "Throttle to zero!" "Stay 10Mm from the planet and circle it." "Don't go above 200 m/s!"

The truth is that it doesn't matter much what you do. Just hang around the correct body and the USS will eventually spawn. It may take 2 minutes. It may take 20 (but usually not that long).

Myself, I just head to the indicated body, get close enough that it fills a good portion of the screen, and just sit there being patient. :)

Sit by the planet, throttle down to 30km/s, and go get a cup of tea. Flying around makes absolutely no difference and there's no way of knowing how long it'll take (usually not more than ~4 minutes).

Repugnant design.

I enjoy the fights when they turn up, but since I found I can make 3-4x as much profit running sightseeing passenger missions with even less risk, I haven't really bothered with these mission templates. There's too many roadblocks for them to be a fun way to spend time. Worst of all are the "Scan beacon -> Told to visit informant in another system -> Informant tells you to go back to the original system and scan the beacon again" mission complications.

There was a "trick to finding it" that was published on another thread. As I recall, the gist of it was that the points do indeed spawn before you can actually see them. NPCs often spawn from USSs, including mission USSs. So to find them, keep an eye on the radar and look for NPC ships spawning out from "nothing" (ie not a planet, station or non-mission-based USS), and head towards the point they're spawning from.

This has been my experience as well. I have tried all the 'tricks' and nothing really seems to make it any better or worse. It can be a frustrating mechanic, but normally it doesn't take terribly long before it pops.

Scan the beacon go to the target body, start dropping into any signal sources and grabbing useful things/bounties. It might not actually be faster but you gain from it and you've got something to do.
