What is the "compensation" for owners of advanced scanners?

Regarding the new Discovery/Exploration mechanics, the devs said: "... those players who have already purchased scanners above the basic level would receive compensation. "

So, exactly what is/was the compensation? And what about those players that had used engineers to maximize the upgrades? Is there anything for that, or any in game mechanic that is better for those upgrades? I thought more accurate probes would be a good idea, but doesn't seem to be the case as far as I can tell. Or maybe the distance at which you can launch the probes is further out for those with upgraded equipment?

Thanks for any insight on this issue.

You get greater coverage/radius on probes.
The ADS was compensated(I think) with the credit cost.

Thanks! Cool deal on the probes. Less enthused about the ADS/credit cost ... I think a launch from a further distance would have been much more appreciated. (Or something along those lines.) Ok, thanks again!

I interpreted the 'compensation' as a refund for their cost as a module. tbh I never noticed whether my balance went up or not & I've made so much money spamming my Cmdr name around I'm not concerned if I didn't get one.

The ADS never had an engineers mod but the DSS had two (long range & wide angle). Whatever mod you had before has been converted to a single new mod that increases the coverage of each probe. You can still fly to a planet to scan if you can find it, would have been nice to give them all the max wide & long range stats too but you can scan from any distance with the FSS scanner screen anyway.

Good luck with it :)

I believe that devs clearly stated that module will be refunded. This mean simple cash back but what was the original cost? 1.5M for A-grade? Hardly noticeable unless you have single digit millions. When I checked my new scanner I found it has increased probe coverage. I had some mid tier long range engineering done so this was nice feature to have.

Hang on to it and sell it to a museum of Spaceflight in a couple of years for a fortune.

Nice .. but DSS (Detailed Surface Scanner) is not the one that was deleted .. DSS is now probes.

ADS (Advanced Discovery Scanner) received a credit refund - that's the one integrated into ships.

The devs gave me Void Opals and they didn't nerf Robigo. Did they also compensate me for taking away my ADS while giving me a better toy in exchange?

Dunno. Don't care.

Refund of the credits for all the ADS's you own. When I logged in on day #1 of the release I definitely noticed a bump in my credits. Didn't do the sums but it seemed about right.

Before 3.3:

{ "timestamp":"2018-12-11T08:50:29Z", "event":"LoadGame", "Commander":"Factabulous", "Horizons":true, "Ship":"TypeX", "Ship_Localised":"Alliance Chieftain", "ShipID":65, "ShipName":"Friend to Scouts", "ShipIdent":"FA-19T", "FuelLevel":16.000000, "FuelCapacity":16.000000, "StartLanded":true, "GameMode":"Group", "Group":"Canonn", "Credits":396157118, "Loan":0 }

After 3.3:

{ "timestamp":"2018-12-11T17:10:46Z", "event":"LoadGame", "FID":"F40473", "Commander":"Factabulous", "Horizons":true, "Ship":"TypeX", "Ship_Localised":"Alliance Chieftain", "ShipID":65, "ShipName":"Friend to Scouts", "ShipIdent":"FA-19T", "FuelLevel":16.000000, "FuelCapacity":16.000000, "StartLanded":true, "GameMode":"Group", "Group":"Canonn", "Credits":429326474, "Loan":0 }

So I gained 33,169,356

Easy enough to check if you really, really care ;)

Honestly, I couldn't say whether I got a refund or not.

I'd deliberately been trying to get my bank-balance up to around Cr3.2bn so I'd be able to buy/outfit a Mamba and a Phantom without it dropping below Cr3bn.
I succeeded in that, bought my Mamba and Phantom, sold some redundant modules from storage and my bank-balance was about what I expected it to be.
Honestly not sure if I would have noticed an extra Cr50m or so though. :eek:

I'm happy to trust that FDev did what they said they were going to do but it might've been nice if they'd dealt with this "in-game" by sending players a message from the "Pilot's Federation" saying something like "obsolete scanners have been removed from all PF Members' ships and you have been compensated in the sum of X credits"

On the bright side, at least there's nobody in this thread moaning about all the mat's they wasted while upgrading their old disco' scanners. ;)

Why are you pointing me to that? I have ~12bn credits, I'm not really concerned. I was merely highlighting I hadn't received any payback, or at least no message informing me so. I'd never notice otherwise.

So you probably got a refund. There was no message involved.

I received enough credits from ADS refunds to buy and outfit both a Mamba and a Phantom and still had credits left. Both ships and the credits are still sitting where I bought them, as I departed immediately after for the edge of the galaxy. I return when I return.
