What is the Duradrive?

Now, I have to say, IF FDev did have two wildly different UI paradigms to choose between, between the tablet, and the holographic necklace thing, and did let the actions of players decide which would end up being used in the game, and this action (EDIT: parallel community goals) was something that has zero to do with the possible merits and downsides of the two options, and all to do with what makes the most trading profit, that would be... something... not unlike how things work in the real world, though. :9

This thread is to speculate about what is the Duradrive. GalNet has a vague description. It says:

  • The Duradrive functioned perfectly
  • Zachary Rackham tested a Duradrive by jumping on it
  • Rackham used it to contact his chief accountant and authorise preliminary funding for the device.
  • It is a superior product (compared to the Torc)
  • We can expect to see it on the market soon (likely Q4 update)

How can players use it if we can't walk or jump yet?

Is it a hover board? I thought it would be a HUD customization device.

I am very sure it's a background world lore item and not an ingame thing. A mobile, like a smart phone. Just smarter.

I wonder if this Rackham is a descendant of Rackham the Red ?

♫ Oh, there once was a pirate named Rackham the Red,
Who came flying to Hutton high on Onionhead... ♪

Given the prices and supply volume I saw for Duradrive gear at Hutton Orbital this weekend, I thought it was a new rare commodity.

My guess is that the duradrive is a way to store scanning/mission data across ship destructions.

Because this game is all about removing any kind of penalty or cost...since there's not enough reward to make players happy.
