What is the maximum distance between systems linked by missions?

Can anyone tell me...

What is the maximum separation in light years between two inhabited star systems in the bubble that generate missions between them?

By missions, I mean cargo/data and any other specific "go here and... " - type missions, not source and return missions with no specific destination?

Between inhabited systems? However far it is to Colonia I guess ;)

Most of the regular missions I see are less than 20ly, so I usually try to make sure any mission running ship I build can jump 20ly+ fully laden.

Ngalinn and/or Mainini have these crazy courier missions to Colonia.
And only for something like a measly 22m Cr for all that time and trouble. 😂😂
I wonder which fool would do a run like that.

I mean regular missions to nearby systems, not passenger missions.
You could investigate for yourself - there is a mission board that lists all the current destinations and their distances. You'd probably need to visit more than one to get a better feel, but the game makes that possible - just remember to A rate your FSD and you should be fine :)

Also tends to change based on your trade rank. Higher rank, longer distance missions, but I don't generally see many over 20 LY at Trade Elite.

This is not straightforward to answer. There are basically four types of range for non-passenger missions:

No defined range: donation, mining, fetch cargo - you might be able to get what you need without leaving the system, you might have to travel 22,000 LY for it. Check before you accept.

Short range: all other types, up to 20 LY from source system.

Long range: mostly the same types as short range, but can go a few hundred LY. These tend to go from the edge of the bubble towards the centre of it.

Inter-bubble: Tourism economy only, data courier or theoretically trade, source in bubble, destination in Colonia. (Occasionally the reverse - source in Colonia, destination in bubble - can be found) Destinations are the same as a local long-range mission could have.

In the Colonia region, the long-range ones go from any system, to any system within 11 LY of Colonia itself. In the bubble, the destination regions are more complex and not well-studied, but the principle of outer to inner is the same.

For passenger missions it's slightly different:

Short range: 20 LY again, bulk or VIP.

Tourism: tour of a number of local tourist beacons. Range up to a few hundred LY to each individual beacon, maybe a bit longer for the round trip. VIP only.

Exploration: visit one tourist beacon. Minimum range probably about 500 LY, no maximum range. VIP only.

Inter-bubble: Tourism economy only, same types as short range but the destination is a station in the other bubble.

As many above have stated, 20LY seems to be "the norm" for anything not explicitly long-range or tourist passenger missions, and it'll favour shorter-range compared to longer range.

This is the one reason why systems like Robigo have worked as mission-grinds historically.... they have minimal candidate neighbour systems meaning almost all missions will be generated to the same target system.

Disable megaship turrets missions seem to go out up to 50ly. Guess that's to find a greater amount of valid targets.
I was going to add that i thought megaship missions were further than 20ly, but honestly couldn't be sure. Thanks for confirmation!

Despite the range... they're a comparatively rare mission type.

You want to know the maximum distance between systems in missions to nearby systems, but not including missions to systems that aren't nearby?

Have I got that right?

I do a lot of delivery missions, and I can't recall seeing any over 20LY.

Worst case, IIRC, is that you might get a mission to somewhere ~20Ly away and then you get an update which tells you to go and visit a contact another ~20Ly away.... who tells you to go back to the system you were originally in.

Also, of course, we shouldn't forget that FSD jumps are only one aspect of travel.
Alpha Centauri is only 4Ly from Sol.
Having arrived in Alpha centauri, however, you've still got the trip to Hutton ahead of you.

By missions, I mean cargo/

Cargo is around 500LY from what I have seen, those are from remote areas like Maia, you can also find missions from one end of the bubble to the other. They used to be common (and highly lucrative) now they only appear after the Thursday tick.

Example below.

Oh, yeah, I learned after my first week to ALWAYS check the distance to the station, lol.

It's not that far. When I went fro SOL to Beagle Point it only took me 7 days in a 48Ly Type 10.

I have, very rarely, seen a 200-300 LY inside-the-bubble delivery or data mission pop up, just while doing my regular BGS mission work in my home space. I don't know what makes those specific missions appear, but there doesn't seem to be any way to predict them or rely upon them.

Sounds fun for you.

But when you compare that to the Ngalinn / Mainani runs which you can repeatedly stack and re-do.
In just what? 2 evenings worth of playing time I got from nothing to Duke and headed back to Shinrarta Dezhra to get me a shiny new cutter.
So fast. Effiicient.

That Colonia courier mission is truly for grind monkeys.
