Discussion What is the most efficient way to crowdsource the 3D system coordinates

Eyeballing it in the galaxy map, I'd say Core Sys Sector CB-O a6-3 is correct. Core Sys Sector CB-O a6-0 also exists but it is not at the above coordinates, looks like approx. (-13.2, -34.2, 15.5).
Yeah now I've had chance to check this myself (in fact it was on my last route!) I think the user who reported this error was definitely mistaken.

All explorers. Might I suggest installing the beneath tool. Even if you don't want to add entries in it, the tool detects new systems you have visited and uploads them to the authors site. When TGC has support for system names it can be uploaded there - if the author is gonna support TGC . The tool already uses TGC to get the coordinates. This might come later so that we have a list of "systems with no coordinates". It can also be useful for OCR tools. Just my 2 eurocent.

Athan. Sorry for the delay. You were already on the OP of this thread - not sure I mentioned it. You were NOT on OP of the 3rd party tools thread - corrected.

Added to the OP, section "Route planners"

Name: CMDR Athanasius' Route Planner
Author: Athan
Description: Web based route planner

Thread: [GENERAL] Route Planner (miggy.org)
Compatible with Gamma: Yes
Comments: Uses the TGC web-api for up to date coordinates.

From the Gamma 2.00 changelog:

So I guess some may have changed.

Some was fixed

Fixing TGC in a minute
------

Djali (Herculis Sector QD-T B3-4) and Siburuba (Col 285 Sector BG-T b18-4) are however still not searchable/present (probably others we haven't found yet)

You don't seem to have bumped the updatedate on the fixed ones, thus my tool didn't grab the update (although I might have a bug that would have otherwise prevented that):

Code:
  systems: [    {
      id: 1375,
      name: "Ashe",
      coord: [
        -92.21875,
        74.21875,
        116.09375
      ],
      cr: 5,
      commandercreate: "FD",
      createdate: "2014-11-25 17:25:11",
      commanderupdate: "FD",
      updatedate: "2014-11-25 17:25:11"

Hi

I am also creating a tool for ED and i guess wolverine has not noticed that yet...

Name: EDDiscovery
Author: Finwen
Description: Log and route planner.
Website: None.
Source available: No
Thread: on FGE forum only so far: http://firstgreatexpedition.org/mybb/showthread.php?tid=1406
Compatible with Gamma: Yes
Comments: Get data from TGC. Future support for submitting data to TGC is planned.

Requires .Net framework 4.0

Click once installer so it will autouppdate with never versions.

Fixed in systems.json also.

Djali (Herculis Sector QD-T B3-4) and Siburuba (Col 285 Sector BG-T b18-4) are however still not searchable/present (probably others we haven't found yet)

I found one more today: "Hydrae Sector IW-W b1-0" is called "Crucis Sector ER-V b2-0" in the galaxy map. What is different about this case is that you can search on either name.

OK I'm thoroughly confused now.

Hydrae Sector IW-W b1-0
Crucis Sector ER-V b2-0

Neither exist in MB's Gamma list - So why are we even talking about them?

Hydrae Sector IW-W b1-0:
Can be searched - Leads to empty space
- ok that's a bit like the testing systems and should be fixed.

Crucis Sector ER-V b2-0:
Can be searched and leads to the correctly named star

Paiphu:
Is in MBs Gamma list
Can be searched and leads to the correct star

I cant make my above findings match with what you guys are saying - What am I missing?

Code:
Name MBGammaList	Searchable	GM
Djali Yes No Herculis Sector QD-T B3-4
Siburuba Yes No Col 285 Sector BG-T b18-4
Hydrae Sector IW-W b1-0 No Yes (empty space)
Crucis Sector ER-V b2-0 No Yes Crucis Sector ER-V b2-0 (seems fine)

! - Got it :)

But
I found one more today: "Hydrae Sector IW-W b1-0" is called "Crucis Sector ER-V b2-0" in the galaxy map. What is different about this case is that you can search on either name.
Still doesn't match what I find - Or I'm again missing something?

Code:
Name MBGammaList	Searchable	GM MBGammaList
Djali Yes No Herculis Sector QD-T B3-4	No
Siburuba Yes No Col 285 Sector BG-T b18-4	No
Hydrae Sector IW-W b1-0 No Yes (empty space) N/A
Crucis Sector IW-W b1-1 No Yes Paiphu Yes

Crucis Sector ER-V b2-0 No Yes Crucis Sector ER-V b2-0 No (seems fine)

And again - Why is it we are concerned about those not in MB's Gamma List?
Where do those name come from - An earlier list?

I can only assume someone added them to TGC... possibly assuming earlier Beta systems still existed and hadn't moved? In which case *slap* to them. Also possible that FD had already tweaked something (server side even) that caused the rename, so not any of our's fault.

To be clear, if I report such it's because I found the error in my DB, which is solely sourced from TGC (except when I apply fixes myself by hand, which I will), so it'll always be something that needs fixing in TGC.

I was reading through the gamma 2.0 patch notes, and noticed this one

"Fix galaxy map search not finding generated systems with authored names"

It might be related to some of our star name woes - we should take another look at some of these now with gamma 2.0

It also looks like they fixed the issues with not being able to search for "." or accented chars. \o/

Are EDSC and systems.json basically the same data? Is it just a matter of synchronizing the two?

For example, HR 7721 is in EDSC but not in systems.json.
