What Makes You Break Immersion?

EDDI already does this for you and it's really, really annoying! One of the first things I turned off!
On one hand I wish consoles could integrate with some of the 3rd party tools like EDDI. On the other hand, I too would find the text-to-speech annoying.

I doubt FD could do it better than many of the third-party devs and would have a lot of ground to make up, so I'd say let them concentrate on the core game-play. Would be nice to be able to embed browser shortcuts in the UI somehow so you can use the tools in-game, however.

Frontier has also let third-party dev's save them the time and resources to give themselves a nice profit boost. :(

Sadly, yes. There is definitely some stuff to like about the Engineers, but the RNG/casino/roulette wheel stuff just really screams *GAME*! Just ditching that would go a long way towards improving the Engineers imho.

I really hope the rumours aren't true...that every time ye agree with a mod and rep them, a little fairy dies.

Only just started doing them after ignoring them fer a year...gotta say the crying and salt I've seen is well justified. Without a doubt one the most un immersive in game crafting systems I've seen in a long time...its biggest flaw being its most fundamental design...the rng. That just kills them entirely ^

player names.

the kinda broken scale feeling - you're too fast in too small a world. the only huge thing is your overscaled cockpit. and ok, planets.

And the world is plastic. It bugs me bumping into landpad lights with my 25 meters high building and being stopped from 220m/s to 0. Without a scratch.

deep mental involvement.

For me personally Elite has no deep mental involvement.

Near enough everything from Thargoid discovery or finding the best trade rounds requires the use of external applications. To me that just signals that the developers are happy with the playerbase doing most of the heavy lifting when it comes to the game.

Actually, I don't think devs especially think you need to find the best trade routes, only you.
Concerning thargoids, you just have to read galnet - the problem is, I reckon, the lack of ingame galnet archives.

I imagine a great many people in the game look for the best trade routes and are not quite content with the games limited search functions.

How do I know this? Well the fact that the apps seem to be quite popular among the player base here and on reddit.

Yes reading about the thargoids is possible but I was thinking more about the research and discovery of the aliens that seems to require a doctorate in mathematics, an oscilloscope and a heavy dose of pro-plus to figure out even the most basic facts about the aliens.

No in game mechanics exist as far as im aware that allow research into them.

People do it if they like, no judgment, I myself don't (only use inara for logging purposes) and I feel like I have the tools to find what I need when trading is concerned. As a miner though, I have a hard time finding the systems I want as there is no way to find your desired planet type (ringed) - but galmap is perfectly fine at giving you enough information to find profitable routes. Only BGS logic and "economy" knowledge is required, but of course you can't beat the best route finding tool. Finding "the best" anything was not thought out by Fdev, same thing as engineers. They just seemed to think, in a very naive way, that the majority of people would be satisfied with a not-so-bad roll, but min maxing is at the heart of player culture. And I can't blame either, when your real life time is put into balance.

As of thargoids, the question is indeed harder. I feel I am the precise target audience for the way Fdev approaches story content - I really like the fact that I'm a nobody in the galaxy, and that some research people do the research I can't do. And after they publish discoveries, I just read nature... I don't feel like I need to be involved in every discovery, but I get it can be pretty unsatisfying for a lot of people. I would advocate for a broader range of discovery tools - in game discovery tools.

Oh hell yes. I mean it's fun and all to have an excuse to collect crap in an SRV or limpets or whatever, but having to find one SPECIFIC item, with no way to actually LOCATE that item? You're forced to use lists and out-of-game resources to increase collection rate, or just drop in and out of signatures waiting for RNG to drop you the one that you can actually use.

Combat grinding is generally fun, but slot machine grinding wears on me after a while. And you can't convert mountains of crap you don't need to the few things you DO need.

And worst of all- you only have 1000 slots, so you can't even get 50 of each item. Grabbing everything IS fun gameplay (relatively). Having to consult your inventory every time you find something shiny, to see if you can afford to pick it up? Far less fun. For me, anyway.

I'm right there with you on this, +1 rep from me.

Has anyone mentioned Biege worlds yet?

and unlocking a permit locked system via Naval progression only to find that it's empty, naff, has no landable bodies, poor quality ship yards, poor outfitting and a poor market...

What was the point of even permit locking it in the first place, it doesn't feel like a reward to unlock it.

It reminds me of a raffle I took part in years ago.

1st prize = 1 week in Porthcawl...
2nd Prize= 2 weeks in Porthcawl...

Having to Alt +tab any time I need some actual information.

Hollow me and telepresence; like religion it raises far more questions than it answers.
