I also really love ambient space music for exploring. One of my favorites is Darkest Before Dawn by Steve Roach: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9D4iwH2L-E
Though that's only a small part of the song, the full version is over an hour of ambient awesomeness.

Close your eyes and dive into the vastness of space ... for me only Lisa Gerrard can do this. I suggest you get the Immortal Memory album and put it on repeat then head out to the frontiers of space. Gas giants, heavenly stars and the vastness of lonely space awaits.

I've thought some more about this subject and the only tune I need to play I think is Space Trucking by Deep Purple. It seems so very appropriate to what I'll actually be doing.

For the full nostalgia experience I'll be listening to Wham! being played from 2 rooms away.

My sister was a big Wham fan, and had a much louder stereo than me as I spent all my spare cash on ZX spectrum games and accessories!

I always used to have Brothers in Arms on cassette back when I was shooting through the stars in Elite on my ZX Spectrum...May have to see if it's the same experience this time around.

Combat will have to be AC/DC's Thunderstruck though :cool:

Oh yes and leaving space stations to the tune of Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins I think it was, the bit at the beginning of Top Gun!
