What other games are we all playing?

I played the first one and loved it the rest less so. I won't be getting this on release. Depending on reviews I might get it in a heavily discounted sale. The icon splurge, low priority given to story, and cookie cutter gameplay irritate me in these games and I feel it's lazy on the developers part. They could do a lot to remedy thus stuff but why bother??? They still sell bucket loads and might as well be beer battered excrement as far as I'm concerned. They aren't getting my money on day one.

Same 'ere - the first one had that sandbox feel throughout - underneath it was still a 'corridor game', one way in, one way out, but the scenery and route options thru each level (even if most were really just mazes) succeeded in giving an open-world feel, and any gradient that was too steep to climb never felt like a total glass wall, behind which you'd fall off the edge of the world (per Half-Life et al)...

..and i was likewise totally disappointed with all of the sequels - they all felt ultra-linear; go there, fetch this, come back etc., the sense of freedom and self-determination of the first game became tied down to the story line and cutscenes. Instead of an adventure of discovery they just garden-pathed you thru the various set pieces and plot requirements with chores and errands... and being constantly told what to do and when is a total killer for the whole sandbox free-roam aesthetic..

..basically same kind of disappointment i have with ED over FE2/FFE... just cannot identify the same gameplay elements i loved from the earlier games in the latest installment (i seriously hesitate to even regard it as such)..

I had the same problem with the X series. And no, it wasn't rebirth for me, it was X3. In X3 something changed, not sure what it was, but just couldn't get into it like i did with the earlier games.

It was a little soulless in that it always felt like you were controlling a menu. A very good galactic mogul game, but the actual spaceship flying didn't scratch the itch.

Recently booted up Skyrim again (Oldrim not Special Edition of course). And last night I had a revelation. I'm using a bunch of mods and a personal ENB, and I just stopped to enjoy the incredible sceneries. Oldrim can truly look fantastic. :)

Apparently, there's a guy now who beat the entire series without ever getting hit.
I can barely get by the first mobs.... :(

Surprised I'm replying here but couldn't help myself. I watched that short vid of the guy who beat the entire series without ever getting hit. All I saw was a bugged game where the boss sword basically passes right through his body but apparently he wasn't hit?!?! Okaaay... think I'll pass on that game.

Yeah I've seen that on some YouTube videos as well. Don't know what to think tbh.

Its the best third person melee combat game that ever existed, dont bother with some YT videos and get DS 1 when its cheep on Steam. Not only it has one of the best 3p melee combat its absolutely amazing as far as lore and story is concerned. Plus the replay-ability is like no other games.

I tend to alternate between ED and a shorter term game. Recently finished Rise of the Tomb Raider and have Far Cry 4 tee'd up next.

I spent most of last weekend playing the Sea of Thieves open beta. Most fun I've had in a game for ages. FDev should really look at Sea of Thieves to see how you crew a ship. I wont stop playing ED when SoT is released on 20th March, but my playtime will be much less.

i'll leave this here:

procedural done right, and loads of fun.

I think Classic Patience, Minefield or solitaire are currently more engaging than ED. So I'm taking a break.
The new release applied a lot of polish to the turd, but its still a turd.
