What other games are we all playing?

It is a zen sport. A bit like fishing. Which isn't a sport, but who cares how many attempts you need to hole the ball in? Der Weg ist das Ziel.
I used to fish using hand grenades or PE4 gaffer-taped to a rock when I was a soldier, works for sea fishing as well as rivers and lakes...

My grandfather put me off fishing as a boy attempting to teach me how to use a fly rod in the proper manner..."You're doing it wrong, boy!"

Can anyone recommend a "mature" MMO on the scale and scope of Elder Scrolls Online, but with more realistic gameplay? Stupid X4 Foundations is ruining all my other games, LOL, with its realistic economy and supply chains and trades and such. The economy in ESO is abysmal, as is the inventory system, the level scaling, etc. etc. etc. Add to that the Lore being thrown out for the sake of virtue signaling, and I'm actually kinda annoyed with ESO. This from a guy who plays it every day because of the addictive Farmville endeavor system and daily rewards!

Actually, this game I'm looking for need not be an MMO. I was recently having fond memories of Dragon's Dogma, a single-player game, but I've played that to death and back. At the very least I'd like a good, modern RPG in the vain of ESO or DD. I'm not looking for The Witcher or any of those "play an existing character" game. I wish Capcom had released their MMO version of Dragon's Dogma outside of Japan. To this day I have no idea why they never did...

Oh well, maybe I should just keep playing X4 and save some money, LOL. Either that or I can visit a hypnotist and have my memories of Dragon's Dogma erased so I can play it from the beginning totally fresh and new 🤗

What do you think of it? My interest took a bit of a nosedive after seeing the Steam rating and checking some of the user reviews. (I didn't read any "pro" reviews yet.)
I played the game on the PS4 originally, I'd quite happily say that it's my favourite game of all time. The PC port was a bit of a disaster, very poorly optimised with ridiculous VRAM requirements (nearly 14Gb with everything on ultra @ 2k resolutions). I had it running fine on my 3070ti with 8Gb of VRAM using a mix of ultra high and medium settings...it ran fine at 1440p at around 70+ fps.

The poor Steam reviews were all about the PC port, the game itself is nothing less than a solid 10/10. Naughty Dog are sorting it patch by patch which has been reflected in the reviews on Steam going from mostly negative to mixed.

I've got a new graphics card (Radeon 6950 XT) which has 16Gb of VRAM so I no longer have any issues running it with everything on ultra...then again, having more than 8Gb of VRAM isn't common.

I'd highly recommend the game...the PC port is now a lot better than it was initially.

I have a huge recommendation, that some others might argue about.

Mass Effect: Andromeda

It plays like an MMO, however its obviously singleplayer. The multiplayer is pretty tired but active.
I really enjoyed this game no matter how bad the reviews are.

I'd recommend Kenshi, I see you've been thinking about it before but I don't know if you ended up playing it. Be warned it is extreme jank, you need to commit to it to some degree as the early game is rough and bounces people, and it's a sandbox where you get what you make of it. I'd avoid wikis for it as much as possible as it's much better blind, imo.

I've been playing Wartales

It's pretty cool. kind of like battle Brothers but with more Xcom like grid based turn based battles. You explore a world map then when you attack or get attacked it drops you into the tactical layer.

It also has some resource management as you need to feed and pay your mercenaries. I'm not very far in yet but there seems to be a fair bit of depth to it

I've been tempted by this space game in the past. My problem is that I'm already at space game saturation. I like an alternative where I'm running around in (maybe skimpy, maybe not) armor, chopping wood and fighting with swords, bows and arrows, and magic!

Maybe I just need to go back to Dragon's Dogma on PC with mods. All my original playthroughs were on PS3, so it might be fun to experience it with better graphics. I just don't like rerunning old stories over and over (same reason I stopped playing Nier Automata despite loving the combat).

It's pretty decent and totally worth the 25 bucks. So far I've only completed the first region and my mercs are at around level 5. I do miss a proper storyline or plot that I could follow. Apparently each region has their own problems and mini plots to deal with.

Conan Exiles comes to mind, but I found the magic system somewhat lacking.

Without the magic stuff I'd say Mount&Blade II: Bannerlord is pretty neat.

Thanks. It claims min reqts of a GTX 970 (which happens to be what I have) but by the sound of it I should wait until that glorious day when I finally upgrade my GPU (eyeing up a 4070 right now), some years late because cryptomining.

I won't argue with you. I really like ME:A and still start it up occassionally. In the past, I never played FPS games But ME:A is the FPS game I've most enjoyed.
Some of the game I don't like. Such as the small number of planets you can land on and that you can't just fly around the planets to explore. I can live with not actually piloting the ship (but I'd like to have a seat to sit in). Ship interiors are nice too.
The new games I am looking to buy have to have ship interiors and crew to interact with. I see some do. Thank you
Have a nice day

If you're upgrading your graphics card, I'd seriously suggest looking at one of the AMD cards as a serious alternative to the RTX 4070. I had a rather good RTX 3070ti FTW3 ultra until last week and like you, was intending on looking to the 4070 or 4070ti as a possible future upgrade.

However, as chance had it...a mate of mine had recently bought a Radeon RX 6950 XT but decided he didn't need the grunt of the card as he only plays World of Tanks. He suggested a swap for my 3070ti plus a small bit of cash so I decided to jump in even though I've stuck rigidly to Nvidia stuff for years.

The Radeon card is an absolute beast, 16Gb of Vram and matches up to the mighty RTX 3090ti (and the 4070ti) in benchmark comparisons. Price wise (current prices) it's a good bit cheaper than a 4070 (certainly cheaper than a 3090ti). Well worth a look...even at the Radeon 6800 xt range as possible cheaper upgrade alternatives. I'd normally never have considered an AMD card...no reason other than I'd had no experience of them, but I'm certainly glad I made the swap 🤷‍♂️

Elite: Dangerous Odyssey VR weirdness aside, AMD's GPUs are better deals at most price ranges right now, unless you're heavy into hardware RT.
