Distant Worlds II Event What Ship are you Bringing and Why?

For a long expedition AFMU is actually a very-very-very good thing to have. No matter how cautious you think you are, there are situations, where you damage your modules, like jumping into a close stellar pair. Such things happen sometimes and you just can't do anything about that.

I think it would be a pity to find out that you have to self-destruct because you are sick and tired of your FSD switching off every 5 seconds, and you can't do anything about it because you have no AFMU and the nearest repair station is 40kLys away.

I'll bring Muc-mhara II, my little Keelback. Because Keelbacks are fun and cheap, and it can have SRV, FLS and a 45ly jump range.

I'll be in my Type 6, Stone's Throw (pictured at left). When I first outfitted it, I never thought I'd see it getting close to 60 ly jumps (if I let alien tech on board).

Thanks for the feedback guys. I've actually adjusted my configuration accordingly and now have an AFMU ready.

Unfortunately, though I was going to bring a conda all set up for long distance and the ability to do refueling and repairing anyone whom need it. I've found out by having setting up a "Private" game of my own. My internet speed cannot handle more than three other humans at a time. And even then, the third addition causes issue, thus I generally only allow one besides my self.
So, I'll only be following you guys via the forum, which I assume will have its own thread and be quite busy. Though I won't be able to join in the festivites, my spirt will still be with y'all.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know of a smaller repairs ship in the fleet than mine?

I'm running a Cobra Mk III equipped with a C1 repair limpet controller and 4T cargo.

It shouldn't be surprising then, that I want to get involved with all the other small ship CMDRs, during DW2. I'm probably just a tad undersized for the big boys in their 'Condas and Cutters.

Well, there is at least 1 example of each ship in the game signed up on the roster. So smallest would be SideWinder/Eagle.

Yes but are any of those assigned to listed mechanics like myself? I'd imagine most mechanics are running something a little bigger.

I'm about to scour the roster out of nosiness. :p

EDIT: I see my wording could be better.

Unless you want to use the neutron highway, you need to fly very carelessly in order to need the AFMU.
Been at BP twice without AFMU...

On my BP trip, nearly all of the damage I took was due to feline interruption, or Windows pop-ups stealing focus from the game (which is terrible in VR, because you have no idea why you've lost input control).

I think it's more about the unpredictable damage, than anything else. ;) :D

At this point I'm planning to bring my Type 10 Defender, fully geared for mining to contribute to the community goal. Curiously though I'm actually wondering if it will be better to just load cargo for the community goal rather than limmets and truck it out there. With a 256 T Cargo bay, replacing limpets once they are used is going to be a pain. With a full load of synthesis materials I only get 120 limpets back. :(
Might be time to start practicing ore scooping in the T-10 [wacko] Presumably tho there will be some sort of station to deposit the ore on... hopefully they stock limpets. [yesnod] Assuming there is limpet resupply, I can use my cargo space to carry spare limpets for the various Fuel/Repair/ and research Rats for the rest of the trip. The extra tonnage doesn't have a great impact on my jump range.

I'll be taking a Python since I'm an American, and I need the driver's seat to be on the left.

Kidding aside, it's been my go-to exploration ship since 2015, and I can't part with it now. I've always liked the way it looks/handles. With the updates to the game, I'll be able to take light shields and an SRV while still getting a ~58ly jump. That's over double the range I was able to get on my first trip to the core (which was ~26ly).

Cobra has that too, and is much more legendary.
