Distant Worlds II Event What Ship are you Bringing and Why?

LOL, so what ship is it gonna be now? Sorry for suggesting switching ships again... or not. :D

OK, so I finally caved, and figured I'd stick to my T9. I had to go back to the bubble for some more engineering, but man... the views are just glorious. And I didn't cannibalize my Beluga, so if I decide to switch back, I can still do that at Omega.

Thing is, I've always wanted to explore with the T9 because of the cockpit views, but for most of the time that I've been playing, it just had too many problems. Over the last year or so, those problems have gradually been whittled away due to buffs (additional class-8 slot, reduced hull mass), the addition of the Guardian FSD Boosters, and now the FSS (which makes the steering much less of a problem). I still needed to get over the fact that the jump range is still a lot shorter, but I can bring almost as many toys, and still have the great views.

My roster entry is now completely wrong about these details, since I signed up with the Beluga... lol :)

Hehe, this makes what, 12 ship changes now? I'm still flying my awesome Corvette, never changed my ship choice from the day I made it.

Just remember that after Omega switching ships is gonna be a greater and greater chore. :p

Man I've debated switching from my Type-10 to something else like a Type-9 for the better internals or an Orca to change things up. I still consider my Vette sometimes. You guys aren't helping!

LOL, an average of once per month? I could believe that. It's been a year of trying out different ships and configurations. LOL.

If you take minimal time to scan systems along the way you should be able to get to Omega in about 2.5h (roughly 140 jumps).

You've got plenty of time to catch up. =)

I just made it to the Omega Mining base (that looks like a carved out asteroid)- focused- scoop and honk- all the way. Still made 4.5 million. Its 12:30 am here now and my head is bulging.

Found a way to watch DS9 on the bridge using my Oculus.

It was always my original intention to buy a Vette and I had saved up enough for it and have it kitted out. This last minute decision to join this distant worlds expedition made me get a Cutter for this.

What's your Jump range?

With much trepidation I'm heading back to the bubble from WP 2 which I found to be a kool endeavor.
A pmf that was dropped in the middle of my lil empire want the second of three large stations I previously controlled.
THEY WILL NOT PASS. :)
All my best on DW2.

Anyone else still switching ships? Or is it just me? ;) :D

no worries, not just you :)

was sure to go with my Python...
then decided on launch day to switch to the Corvette ;)
lost it hours before the launch at the tourist beacon cause of stupidity :D
and went back to the Python...
at Omega decided to switch to my Orca for that extra jump range, get it moved, tried it on a little cruise to Rohini,
and went back to the Python...

hopefully there is NO shipyard at the new core station ;)

What's your Jump range?

Here's a quick rundown of it:

41ly (41.68ly max)
420m/s boost
1845MJ shields
1314 Hull HP
4x SRVs
6x SLFs
Repair and Fuel Transfer controllers

Got bored with the Anaconda. Headed back to Sol and put together something dumb. But very, very fun!

Anaconda.

You can bring size 6 SLF & SRV hangars and keep a low 60s LY jump range. That's with four railguns and four beams for material farming at certain waypoints too (its not quite fully engineered, I finished G5 FSD from 30-100% @ Rohini). Good multi-crew ship for the event pretty much.

This is good, the Krait Mk II looks like a very reasonable explorer - good fuel scoop, jump range a little improved on the Python (which itself is respectable), good view, plenty of internal slots and the opportunity to carry an SRV without it being the crippling burden that it is for the Keelback. Hopefully the supercruise manoeuvrability is decent, I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

I'm glad to see that this thread is still active. It's spawned quite a few interesting discussions about ship configurations, and of course it's always cool to see what people choose to fly, and why.

So far I've been sticking with the T9 that I originally brought out for the first mining CG. I'm pretty happy with it. I always thought the steering would kill it, but I've grown to enjoy it. Cockpit views are what usually kill ships for me (such as the Anaconda). And so I've always wanted to explore in the T9, but just couldn't bring myself to do it for a long time, especially since it has the lowest jump range that I've explored with. But the buffs to the T9 and changes to exploration over the last year (lower hull mass, additional size-8 optional slot, Guardian FSD Boosters, and now the FSS) have all added up to make it a viable explorer now, just with a much shorter jump range than most other choices. But since it can hit 40+ even with some heavy modules, it's good enough. ;)
