What ships are we getting in the 'Big Release'?

He was rolling his eyes because that is what I have been saying and we were discussing all through this thread. I think he just thought we had gone round in a circle. There was no malice in it.

Oh...right :) Thanks, honestly didnt read through every post in the thread, so I apparently missed that one!

No probs. I think you are right though. If I were to be optimistic about it I would say they have maybe two ships nearly ready and will release after launch and say "and now we unveil our first DLC for ED" and the forums will go "Oooh wow, keep it up FD! Super!" when in reality they had it all along...

But guys, there have also been quoted about having a couple more ships for release so which is right?

If I had to go for an ideal ship then it would be either the Imp Courier or Trader. Probably the Courier for better manoeuvrability! I'm just inventing ships and their specs now....

Where is this quote?

Well the ship featured in the image is orange, but now I see it's:

a) A video

b) Probably a viper with the orange sides.

So um...LOOK A THREE HEADED MONKEY!

Yes the viper on the Atari St version was orange and also blue. It depended on the station you were at. A nice touch to the game for the time. I still have my ST and Elite :)

It is likely I think that the ships closest to completion are the ones which we haven't seen yet but which are on this chart:

http://elitedangerous.com/extra/newsletter_2014_09_12/ship_chart.jpg

So they are the Type 7 freighter, another passenger liner (Dolphin?) a small, Eagle sized ship (Adder?) and that strange looking fellow on the bottom left.

Will there be any new ships on launch? Who knows. I would guess yes, one or two. It's just 'content' really, rather than mechanics, so is a relatively simple and non-bug-causing addition.

Has anyone considered one of the free ships possibly being a "shuttle" with superior range and no cargo? This would make getting back and forth between ships easier...

It has been officially confirmed that there will be no new ships on release. Sadly I can't find the post. As usual this official statement was inside of a random thread.

However, new ships will come after launch obviously.

Because at the moment you can not 'Blaze your own trail'. You literally have to 'Blaze the same trail as everybody else'. More small ships would create a sense of choice to compare with the choice you have of where to go in the expasive galaxy. We have a huge galaxy but we are actually very much boxed into a growth progression model by the lack of choices in ship design. It is alsmost inevitable you will fly a hauler for example. This should not be the case in a game thats biggest claim boasts being free to do what you like. When the 30 ships arrive they may well squash this problem like a bug and that is my hope. But IMO at least 9 of those 17 missing ships should be small Sidewinder - Cobra sized craft. We already have loads of big ships!

Why would you want to fly a Hauler? My kids could take you out with an elastic band in a Hauler. Just kit a Sidey with some mining equipment and go find a metallic ring. Palladium chunks are worth good money and you'll have yourself a mining Viper or Cobra in no time.
I've been blazing my trail since Gamma was released and it seems it's a different one to you (which kind of disproves your point really).

Yes i dont see any clear sign that they will add more ship either, but i'll be cheking the next newsletter, If there are more ships coming they might tell us there. 13 to 15 isnt a huge gap, and if they plan on adding more anyway, why not start there? And adding ships wont break the game as much as adding a few features, though ships could themselves be bugged.
Of course it's very possible that we'll get none at all. Precisely because gamma is meant for bug/stability/optimisation and we pretty much have the released version in our hands already.
We'll get the background about the emperor for sure but we likely wont get much more right away.

"Humble pie for sale, get it while it's hot" Gamma 2 released, with two new flyable ships.

Yay

If we could have a wish list, I would go for a Fireball XL5. As a kid that ship was the very definition of a space ship to me. The number of time I 'docked' a ballpoint ben into its plastic top.... Hehe, i still think about it now when i see a BIC.

+1 Joe. That was easily my favourite show when I was little.

I wish I were a Spaceman, the fastest man alive...

And yep, we now finally have our 15:

Sidewinder
Eagle
Adder
Hauler
Viper
Cobra
Lakon-6
Lakon-7
Lakon-9
Asp
Python
Anaconda
Imperial Clipper
Federal Dropship
Orca

You can probably add the Imperial and Federation fighters to the "likely to be in at launch" since they're already in the game as non-PC ships. Based on the SelfAudio folders, the other 8 are likely to be:

Beluga Liner
Diamondback
Empire Courier
Federation Corvette
Panther
Vulture
Fer De Lance
Dolphin

Is there anything smaller than a sidewinder? federal fighter? It's just the wear and tear bills have gone through the roof...

I can't seem to find a list anywhere.

And more than anything I want to know if we'll be seeing my all time favourite, the Fer de Lance.

That was always the bounty hunters weapon of choice in the Spectrum version of Elite...

I'm waiting for the Fer de Lance, been dreaming about that ship since I read the Novela and Manual when I was 10. I want to cruise the space lanes in luxury chasing law breakers, polishing by six shooter.

Not holding by breath though, I don't expect any new ships now till weeks after launch - FDev are going to have there hands full.

And I sincerely hope you are right and I am wrong but I have seen peoples expectations for Beta and then Gamma and now release and every time there has been 'believers' that there was some hidded written code version of this game hiding in the wings and they were proved wrong every time.

Then you have watched a different forum than me. All I ever saw was this:

complaining
complaining
feature requests
more complaining
additional feature requests
rants about features not being in the unfinished game yet

NEW VERSION Release

astounded reactions from people unable to believe that actually THAT many features have been added
triumphant outbursts of ecstasy about the newest ship/trailer/feature/younameit...

new version energy slowly subsiding...
...wait for it...
complaining....
complaining....
feature requests....
rants about guess what....

and then guess what happened at EVERY SINGLE NEW VERSION RELEASE.

FD almost never underdelivered. It almost always OVERdelivered. They didn't just meet people's expectations, they almost always exceeded them. And yet what people mostly did was complain, whine, rant and ragequit. Of all the awesomeness FD provided us with, what gets most attention? The failure to deliver an offline single player mode. As if nobody could have seen that coming lightyears ago.

Look at the reactions to patch release notes... the lates one for gamma 2.0 is a perfect example. People are pumped. Again. As they have always been with every single new release. And by the way, two new ships are in now, so that makes them 15 already. And this is just gamma 2.0... release date is still a week away.

But some people cling to their disappointments and love dragging other people down with them, apparently. Sad story. I have seen all of FDs failures and all of their overachievements and and frankly, I don't even need to be a fanboy to just laugh in the face of your pessimism. Because regarding all presentable evidence, it is unwarranted, to say the least.

Actually suggesting that FD might plan to make us pay real money for additional ship models is not only ridiculous, it could be regarded as an attempt to damage their reputation and weaken the fanbase. I am aware that by some of their actions and miscommunications, FD have already done some harm to themselves that they did not intend to. But kicking them while they are trying to get back up on their feet is just...

well, the reputation system on this forum forbids me to use the language that would be appropriate for this occasion.
