Should the music of Elite Dangerous be orchestrated, electronic, ambient or a mixture?

I like ambient music during space travel, because it's relaxing and mysterious. Electronic sounds futuristic. Orchestrated music is timeless and suitable for most settings. It could be a mixture to best suit different settings.

vangelis-y The extended Blade Runner album works a treat, mind so does the tron legacy soundtrack, oh and Wing Commander and......

I would go with ambient and soothing for hyperspace general piloting. Electronic / futuristic when navigating near space stations and climatic orchestral for combat. Just my ideas :) but I think what we have now works well!

Well, hmm. Anything they wish? I turn if off anyways in any game. I'd rather hear sounds that mimic as if you were there. Not a band with a tune coming from no where. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

I would change my mind if there were a radio on dash, with knobs and a tuner. :p BUT who would have a galaxy wide radio station? haha.. Naw, breaks immersion for me. heh

The Mass Effect series has the best soundtrack of any sci-fi game. I had a mixture of everything.

I hope Frontier Dev can afford to create their own original soundtrack to that level though.

Here's some of my recommendations to those of you who enjoy listening to mostly relaxing ambient sci-fi type of music: Aes Dana, Asura, Bluetech, Easily Embarassed, Hol Baumann, John Stanford, Omnimotion, Zero-Project, and Zero Cult. They're all available on Spotify, and I expect to be listening to them all while playing Elite.

Yes it doesn't mention exactly the music genre of all the soundtracks though. It's not like they will stick with only 1 composer forever.

Working on Elite: Dangerous is simply a dream come true. As a composer there could be nothing more exciting and fun than writing sweeping themes, vast exploration music and energetic battle cues for an epic sci-fi game. And while it will be fun to study and reference my favourite scores, I feel the drive that is simply part of Elite’s legacy to defy convention, push the boundaries and try something new.

All I need is a rather less 'midi' version of the Frontier theme.

Having this blasting this out while cruising the galaxy (in style ) at the helm of my Imperial Courier would be worth the £50 entry fee alone.

The decision has been made obviously but I thought some progressive house like Hybrid for general flying about, Aphex Twin for fighting, kick back with some Pink Floyd while auto-docking and maybe a bit of Underworld while in the space station. None of this happy-hardcore nonsense. :p

Nice taste in toons mate! Spot on.

Personally I want the ability to play my own music in ship, I'm ok with a game like Mass Effect driving a sound track as it's telling a story... But in ED I'm telling my own story... I want my choice of music while I'm doing so.

Playlist, straight from the HDD by choosing songs, a preset folder, Spotify... Don't care. Plenty of other threads on the topic so I won't rant on... :D
