What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous

I have a question for you, do you use the throttle as throttle?
does it have the dual throttle?

What is your controller setup?? And does it work?

Questions for me?

I use the throttle for throttle on flight sims that support it, and I'm sure E-D will but oolite is largely designed for Linux (some button support but does not use windows driver configuration and so deadzones and levers etc dont work) and so instead I use buttons on my throttle lever for throttle on Oolite, works fine. It is single throttle but there are so many other analogue levers, buttons, dials etc that you are quite spoiled for choice (if flight sim X is covered then most other things will be). I started with using my trigger for laser then 2nd trigger (ie squeezing first trigger hard enough to activate 2nd trigger) for missiles but as I get carried away with my laser I squeeze too hard and have no missiles left :( so have moved missiles to the cool bottom under the safety hat. Have allocated many other buttons on the joystick and throttle for ID target, arm missiles, Jump, fuel Injection, ECM, toggle joystick sensitivity etc. Love the accuracy, quality and feel of the joystick, top notch and would definitely recommend.

Cheers Gav, Im looking at these and just struggling to work out which is the best to go for..

I don't fancy spending a ton on a piece of poo..

No worries, as you can tell I'm pleased with it, the basic x52 goes for 50-odd on eBay 2nd hand which I considered. Including my computer, joystick and kick starter contribution and computer chair this game has cost me over £1300, best be good!

Mouse/Keyboard most likely but would like to try a Joystick for this one if supported well.

Gamepad I don't think will have the accuracy for combat with the analog sticks.

Mouse and keyboard only, despite having yoke, pedals, and twin prop throttle quadrant as well as an xbox controller (for a single game). I don't expect this kind of "simplistic" game to force me onto advanced controllers.

I hope Elite Dangerous is more of a simulation then an arcade game and therefore my preference is Saitek X52 !

that thingy must be somewhere in the cellar since FSX

The easter bunny brought me a 15 pound parcel containing a HOTAS Warthog.
I'm using it for Eagle Dynamics DCS A-10C & P-51D and looking forward to use it for Elite and Star Citizen too.
Now i am looking for good rudder pedals, any sugestions ?

PS
People who think the stick is too high should have a look at this http://www.joyloc.com/

For me it was enough to set my office chair to max height.

its a nice setup that, bit pricey...

I am no clearer now than I was last week, I aint got a clue... :(

I will not be spending £400 on a controller, that would be better put into nice graphics hardware...

Does the Thrustmaster have a twist joystick? I've wondered that for ages... Also I think the Saitek Pro Flight pedals would work well mate. I have the Saitek X52 Pro, but have wanted a Thrustmaster for ages...

Brian :)

@ Brian
Thanks god it doesn´t have a twist function so it feels more exact.
It has a slider on on the weapon control system wich can be abused for rudder but that means you won´t have left hand on throttle while using it.
It is better to use the slider for cockpit zoom.

The Saitek Pro Flight Combat Rudder Pedals look good.

@ psykokow
Yes it is expansive (313€) but for me it is worth every cent and i wait with grafix hardware until Star Citizen is out because then i will have to build a new PC anyway.

Really? I just got the X52 Pro but I quite like the twist feature to line up shots.
What in your experience was a bad case for it?

I never had a X52 Pro but i have a T-Flight HOTAS X.
I have problems to use aileron and elevator exactly while twisting the stick so i use the rocker on the throttle instead.
This only aplies for hardcore flight sims like a10c it is no problem with IL2 sturmovik or H.A.W.K.S.
Since the Warthog has 2 throttles there is no room for a rocker.
It has a colie hat and mouse hat (like thinkpad) on right lever and push button on the smaller left lever.
Having 2 throttle levers is cool even on single engine planes.
On Mustang P-51 for example you can use 1 to control engine RPM and 1 to control propeller pitch.

Just ordered the X52 Pro, looked at the others and to be honest could not justify the price, I am sure it will suffice. Gonna be playing a little X-Plane as well whilst waiting for the first ED beta to turn up, and of course OOlite.

Will still keep saving, a new 120Hz monitor is still on the list and consequently a new GPU.

My knowledge of PC games controllers ended with an MS Sidewinder Force Feedback thingy that I never really used and went the way of all things.

The cost of a lot of this stuff seems rather scary, tbh, but this thread has got me considering an upgrade from my usual kb/mouse combo.
