What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous

I ordered the X52 pro a week ago but dabs are out of stock :(
So I will wait for the new X55 in January any how I have my old Microsoft Sidewinder pro at the ready so should be up and running!:D

Minti2

Deadly, But very fluffy...
If you don't mind feeding the beast Amazon UK have it in stock for £126.18.

Very tempted, but i see BT selling for £109 but there still awaiting delivery!

Think seeing as its only Alpha am not in to much of a hurry, hopefully get one in the sales Jan, or at least be in stock with BT at same price(also give me a chance to check out the Xpad and keyboard/mouse combo, see how they play out)

X52 for me - I was just re-playing mechwarrior 4 and realised how limiting it is to play any simulator with mouse and keyboard alone. I guess many of the modern games are quite dumbed down control-wise, hopefully Elite will offer a wide range of things to keep in check and buttons to assign. I honestly hope it will be hard and complex to master it all :)

Blame the gamepad.

What's the general consensus on the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X?
I'd love the Saitek x52 but it is waaaaay out of my price range as I've only had a few days work in the last couple of months - eek!!
Any thoughts on it? I've heard there might be a bit of a deadzone issue?

Jamie I have been using one to play free space and am getting on with it fine. The throttle doesn't give as much resistance as I would like, but other than that no complaints.

Hi Jack,

yea maybe it isnt.. i like the look of it and i think a bit of german engineering is always a good thing. i'm intrigued by the rudder on the throttle instead of the normal twist action on the joystick and at £24.00 on amazon i cant really miss.
what do you think? has it proved to be a good stick for you? i'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it.

Cheers
Paul..

Hi Paul,

To be honest it has hardly seen any use since I bought it 3 years ago. I think that is due to a lack of Space/Flight Sims that I wanted to play rather than the stick itself.

It has a pleasing rubberised feel to it and the throttle and stick give quite a lot of resistance. I don't remember it being awful to use. However, I do remember that as someone used to a twist stick I did not find the rudder on the throttle very intuitive when I tried it out.

I'm thinking I might hold off buying something expensive until I know what the best control method for Elite is. All this joystick chat has put me in a mood to dig out an ancient copy of IL-2 I have somewhere so if I have any revelations re:Blackwidow I'll let you know.

X52-TrackIR5/Ch Throttle Quadrant/Saitek Throttle Quadrant/Saitek Rudder pedals...Saitek switch panel and Autopilot, "IF" someone makes a plugin for it:)P

After going through the whole thread, it seems that the X52 is "THE" one to get at the medium pricing range. Starting to get the money for it rdy. I'm looking forward to see some feedback from the Alpha Test. Hope there will be some

My X52 Pro is fun!

Tried it out on a few games - Wings of Prey, HAWX, FSX - it seems to work great! I really like the adjustable resistance.

Unfortunately, all the games I have tried it on don't interest me in the slightest - so I can't really say how well it works in practice. Just looking forward to trying it out on Elite :)

The equipment moves beautifully, the Jellybean lights are lovely, but the MFD display seems limited - nowhere near as configurable as I imagined (but maybe I just don't know how to do it yet!), and if you plan on dimming the LED's - power flicker is a real annoyance.

Ahhhh....no way. My imagination includes flickering lights in a Board on a space ship, old, a bit rusty/dirty.....Bounty Hunter/Trader Style a like. I sooooooooo wish we would be there already :D
Thx for pointing on the X52 as well mate! I hope i can make it happen soon, but that money....ah, i will make it at some point. Having some Ebay stuff already under observation to get an idea how much it will be :)

You won't regret it - I've used X52 extensively when flying in Il2 - it is absoltuely amazing to have everything at your fingertips and once you get used to it it becomes very quick and intuitive. The initial setup takes some time as you need to map and re-map to best suit your needs but once that's done it feels absolutely brilliant. And that feeling when you flick up the fire button cover because it's time for serious business ...

Forgive me being lazy, but without wanting to read through 60 pages - can anyone advise on a joystick for around £30?

Alsooooooo - any space games with a similar flight model to ED to try it out with?

Folks,

What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous? Joystick? What brand? Just using a keyboard?

I have been using my XBox 360 controller connected to my PC for oolite. It works OK, but has some issues.

One that controls things.

:D I am hilarious.

I have a Saitek X52 Pro with throttle etc but I actually thing the XBox 360 controller with my PC wireless XB360 controller interface is very good. I can't be arsed to get the HOTAS setup for most things, so probably will default to XBox controlling!

If you can go an extra tenner or so, the Thrustmaster T-Flight looks pretty good, and it's supported in the alpha straight off.

Once the Christmas and work nonsense has settled down I reckon I'll get one myself. That'll be my first joystick since the trusty Quickshot back in 1984 or something.

Ctures the joystick producers :/
I have found out that most joysticks are made for right handed ppl.

Grrrr

I Think I Will Pick up a ThrustMaster T.16000M....I hope its a good choice.
