What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous

just splashed out on a total pc controller upgrade.

I've been on a Symantec training course for the last few days. At their offices they had one of those wheels in a full cabinet playing some F1 game whose name escapes me. Great fun for breaks between sessions. You will love it!

Don't need a USB3 hub to get this well known issue with the X52.
I have a shortcut to the Saitek Drivers and reinstall anytime this happens. Changing USB port is a common one and sometimes adding a new USB device.
This is the one and only gripe I have with Saitek, hopefully the new X55F Rhino stick will not have this problem as the stick and throttle have separate USB cables.

I appreciate that clarification, was just aimed at those with newer MBs who've used the driver disks and installed them by default without checking. Driver port issues are generally down to you not changing the USB profiles to never shut down, windows will shut down USB ports without warning unless you've told it to leave them alone. That's something else to check.

I'm in exactly the same boat.

My X52 Pro arrived yesterday. For those of us unused to these things, its quite a sight unpacking the thing and seeing buttons and switches everywhere!
Sure is! Mine arrived yesterday and it both looks and feels awesome. :D

Mine works very well other than the known issue with multiple input devices, which FD are already looking into and hopefully the fix for which will make it for Alpha 2.0 or whatever it will be called.

I was hoping for a 1.2 release that fixed this and other bugs. It will be a bit galling for the Warthog owners if the 2.0 release doesn't fix this leaving us a distinct disadvantage.

Not to be rude, but it should go without saying that not everything will be fixed and what you want during an Alpha. There is of course a certain amount of risk you take as the game is unfinished and your hardware won't be supported in the next release. Hope you still enjoy it though!

A disadvantage perhaps in the MP Alpha but this is more or less meaningless in the grand scope of things. This will be to test things like the P2P model, weapon balance, effects of latency on gameplay etc. Not to establish some kind of hierarchy of the best pilots. I don't expect to be the best pilot and probably never will be. But what I lack in skill I hope to make up for with guile and if it comes to it, villainous treachery! :D

I have a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X that I've used on my PS3 and PC. If it doesn't seem to fit the bill, I may try out a XBox controller to see how that works.

I started off with the keyboard and mouse, moved to the 360 controller, and then bought a T-Flight Hotas X you mention. The T-Flight is definitely the superior way to control in the Alpha. I suspect the same is true of any HOTAS vs controller vs keyb/mouse, and I have no way of comparing the T-Flight to any other HOTAS myself, but it's doing the job nicely for me. You can never have too many buttons though and I find myself wishing for more! (I know more expensive sticks provide more buttons)

Anyway, I reckon you'll be pleased with how the T-Flight performs when you get to give it a go. There's a default control mapping specified for that stick in particular too.

Annnnnnd
less than a month later

the hotas "joystick" part suddenly gains a fault.

Not a good sign, support ticket sent in, just have to wait now for an update and then I guess post the darn thing off and live without playing Elite for a few weeks while the shop dithers about. EEEEEKKKK!

And no, im not using the keyboard :p

Will check that thx.

Just to let peeps know what my experience is with joypad and joystick.
Started off with my old cyborg evo (easier to use in win7 than it used to be in XP!), however it seemed to be woefully inaccurate and the twist is infuriating. I know it's a bad stick compared to many many others, but in this case the 360 controller is far better.

I know this won't be true when compared to some of the newer/better sticks; but it is worth remembering that you get what you pay for!

On a related note- for everyone struggling with the number of buttons on a pad, I have found voiceattack to be just the ticket. Plus talking to your ship is about immersive as you can get :D

I am Keyboard and Mouse all day long, but I have finally done it!.
I have joined the dark side and purchased my first Joystick!!!.

I thought that this was purchased just because of ED so did not know how I was going to get on or what to look for.

Looked around and did not want to spend loads of money on a possibly shelved purchase, but did not want to get a cheap one either. also the feel factor is getting really difficult as they don't seem to have a place where you can have a feel and a grope anymore

This includes dare I say it 'PC WORLD'

So as I already had the Mouse 'Cyborg RAT 7' which is adjustable in every way you can think of.
I thought I would get the 'Cyborg FLY 5' for the same reason, got nothing to try it on so the maiden Voyage will be on ED, but so far its also adjustable giving it a High Comfort and a grope rating of 4 out of 5 Nipples :)
