What will ED look like at the end of the 10-year plan?

Just what the title says...I was just thinking what might FD have in store for this game over the next ten years? I mean, that is a pretty long time and I imagine with each season tons of possibilities will emerge as far as what we can actually do in the game and how we decide to play.

What do you imagine ED will look like in ten years?

Ten years is too long imo. Ten years is alot of time for pc development, that would be the main factor, how strong will the average pc be in ten years, hell the game file will probablly be 5 terrabytes.

Going by past experience, I'd think it'll be a lot more advanced than we imagine. Consider that FD already went from 32 bit to 64 bit from the first to second season. That's a significant accomplishment. It might not show on the surface, but it lays out a generous path for future improvement.

In 8 more years, I think we'll be looking at a new graphics engine and huge improvements in capabilities that will take advantage of future hardware.

I'm also looking forward to the sequel, which I suspect will include support for personal holodecks. :)

Like I said in tens years a terrabyte will be like how we see megabytes, Whats more than a terrabyte?

There are a few more multiples we can use in the relatively near future. In order...

Petabytes, Exabytes, Zettabytes, Yottabytes, Brontobytes and Geopbytes.

Only thing that is pretty much guaranteed are couple engine overhauls over the years, as long as the products keep selling and development continues.

It depends heavily on how succesful it is. If it's going strong I can see them changing the networking at some point as the current P2P system's fairly limiting, but only if it's financially justified by strong growth which by recent observations seems unlikely. I'd like to see things more personalisable... the ability to own a hangar/quarters in a station/base, customisable cockpits etc... hopefully without having to BUY them.

I think the biggest change would be other people... currently we have other robot ships but there's noone actually IN them, noone in the stations, noone on the planets. They're gonna have to add real, interactable people when they unbolt us from our seats and let us walk/float around, or it's gonna become very obvious very quick that we're all alone in the galaxy. Think something like ED with GTAV planets and stations.

It will be different and better. The complaints of today will not be the complaints in 2025. What else do you expect any of us to be able to say to illuminate your thinking?

Correct question is - will it make it to the end of it's 'plan'? And the answer as it stands now is...doubtful.
I enjoy the game at the moment, but I just can't see it evolving for 10 years considering most recent updates and the pace. Most of the playerbase will barely remember that this game existed in 10 years.

E:D in 10 years
Getting rid of p2p, it'll play entirely on "the cloud."
All ships will be Cobra variants, even so, the Asp Ex will still be the most popular ship
As part of the season 7 update, "Friendship Drive", you have to make at least 2 friendly posts to other players on their Galspan Social Media page before you can make long jumps.
There will be multiple forms of currency based on each occupation that allow players to buy specialized equipment that often have nothing to do with that profession.
Piracy will once again be a problem as pvp players spend their "Explorer Bucks" to buy "Solomode Tunnelers" to invade solomode. To defend against this, solo players can spend their "PvP Coins" to purchase "Tunnel Shields".
All trade goods will be replaced with "Printer Cartridges" for 3d printers that have replaced all forms of production. In most station economies, "Printer Cartridges" are spent producing more "Printer Cartridges" to sell as the economy slowly enters its final death spiral.
Most stars have run out of fuel long ago causing the Fuel Rats to expand into towing services as stations have infinite fuel as long as they have printer cartridges. A few still live on the edge, collecting fuel from the few remaining fuel producing stars but are being hunted down by Aislings current activist campaign "Stop Eating Stars You Stupid Meanie".
Everyone continues waiting for the Thargoids to reveal themselves while the majority of Frontier's dev staff no longer even remembers what that word means and just makes vague posts about it to keep riots from breaking out
The UA's, Barnacles and the season 3 discovery of Starfish have all been revealed to be a creation of Hudson to distract everyone from his secret affair with Torval
The Powerplay mechanic has been changed dramatically and power rankings are now determined by SRV races, the type of race and location determined by last weeks winner
NPC pilots Ai have been upgraded and now contain highly advanced conversational code borrowed from Microsoft. As such, all npc pilots are now very chatty but also racist bigots.
Lastly, Exploration has been drastically changed since season 6 "LIMPETS FOR EVERYONE!" as everyone now employs Exploration Limpets which zoom around sectors scanning everything for you and beams the information back to your ship, even if you're in another sector
