Whats happening with the November Bug Fix/Stability patch?

So it would be better if people lost interest in Elite, so they stop pestering the devs with questions about the game?

And if "pitchforks" stay the same no matter what they do, why not try a completely open and transparent approach for a change, just to mix things up?
I think the point was directed more at those who take things to the extreme..

If only they'd invested their time and energy into a space-game niche where they previously had a competitive advantage (now squandered).
They spent something like £20 million and three years - i.e. more money and more time than they spend on a lot of their other games to first release - on developing the Odyssey expansion to Elite Dangerous, plus a fair bit more and another year on the post-release updates. Over its lifetime they've spent more money on developing and running Elite Dangerous than any two of their other games combined (and at least most combinations of three others, too)

Whatever Frontier's problems are, "not spending enough time, energy and money on niche space games" is definitely not one of them.

As an aside, is there any fresh (not narrative) content likely anytime ever? I've slightly parked ED for a while now.
That probably depends on what you mean by "not narrative". e.g. the Thargoid Spires or the Titan Rescues are of course connected to the ongoing story, but if you don't care about that they're still a bunch of new content to explore and/or shoot and/or mine. Most new content gets some sort of in-universe story introduction, if only to hint at where it might be found.

If you mean "not Thargoids", since the story has basically been Thargoids for the last two years ... I think Rubbernuke has said as much as anyone outside Frontier knows on that.

To be fair, I got really jaded with the Thargoid stuff, the constant CZs and the lugging of escape pods and refugees out of damaged stations.

The Titan stuff as well was a bit repetitive for me too. Get X distance into the maelstrom only to have a CG to get the next gubbins to get to the next stage, then another CG to get the next bit you need to get a bit further. Caustic sinks, pulse neutralisers, wave scanners, then extraction torpedoes.

But the spire sites? Absolutely fantastic and has a bit of content for everyone. AX combat, loadsa money to be made, but of exploration, some dangerous exobio, scavenging, on foot combat, SRV combat if you like that, stealth... it's great craic.

FDEV is in the unique position to be actively developing a space game, right when this niche becomes more and more mainstream thanks to big titles like starfield / and the controversy of star citizen.

They got the foundation for something that could still last years if maintained correctly. I really hope that they refocus their efforts back on the title that gave them the opportunity to grow to the size they are now.

Base building, new planet types, ship interiors, EVA, more vessels (in space & on the ground), or even a rework of old features. There are a lot of possible directions they could take the game next and the interest in the IP is still quite strong. However they would have to act sooner rather than later.
I think ship interiors have been done to death... anyway, we got fleet carrier interiors.... is'nt that enough :)
Base building..... I'm 50/50 with that, but whatever form it takes has to add to gameplay otherwise its going to be 'why bother?'
EVA.... now that could be fun, starting with a basic 'fix a broken bit on your ship' type thing, then ramping up stuff from there
More planets.. now here I'm with you... thicker atmospheres.... water...... maybe a few plants, a shrubbery perhaps.. maybe 2 with a little path between them Ni!
More vessels... hmm, but how do you progress beyond the perfection thats a hyper engineered Asp Explorer? (awaits more pitchforks :D )
But what I'd really like to see is the most expensive(and time consuming) thing that Fdev can build for elite
More thargoid stuff.... especially if you're raiding another spire site for materials, and the thargoids come out for a fight. on foot.*

What the hell is that.... jeez!! weaposn weapons!! aiiriieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee <gristly crunching and cracking noises>

Odyssey had a false start.
People who were playing at the time of the Kingfisher Incident got a permit called "Odyssey Testing" as a nod to that.

We might be getting more then a Key Feature Overhaul - probably a Key Technical Overhaul to go with it. The Feature'll be gameplay, and the Technical'll be boring coding stuff that noone really cares about but everyone places a high value on and thinks they're an expert in.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Its now the end of the year and we haven't heard anything regarding the "results of the investigation" of the once planned key-feature overhaul. By that merit its at least half a year off, if it happens at all.

Which is a shame, since feature overhauls like mining back in the day would certainly be updates that bring people back - especially if they target things like engineering, powerplay and maybe other gameplay aspects that are have been neglected for quite some time.

So far, ED has the biggest feature set out of its direct competitiors SC and SF - it just has to capitalize on it, refine it and enhance it. It could be so much more and the foundation is still very good.

Odyssey had a false start.
It did, and it VERY much stung Frontier to where I now think they're quite gunshy about Elite. If you look at the video posted on the Frontier website, they say "The challenge of the recent few years is the investment we put into Odyssey. We really wanted to grow that line increase the revenue quite substantially, and that's clearly where we're still hurting a bit because we don't have those ongoing sales. But Elite Dangerous is still doing pretty well, generating revenue, it's just not that return on investment"

The problem is going to be perception. They didn't make money on Odyssey not because it wasn't a good expansion, it's that it was horribly executed at the start, and released half baked. If they waited and released Odyssey in the state that it was in 12 months later, I think it'd have performed MUCH better in terms of sales, and their reputation wouldn't have taken nearly as bad a hit. But instead they bet the farm on it doing well it seems, rushed it, and it crashed badly. (Pun intended).

Still, it's there now, and hopefully they see that. Ugh, I feel like this needs the presence of a God Emperor Brebus meme from @Rubbernuke ...

(Edit, dunno where most of the post went when I threw it up initially, haha)

I was never really that interested in the Thargoid stuff, even from the outset, but by then I was a little tired of the whole thing, having played ED for many hours. To the extent that when EDO landed I still didn't really get back into it too much.

Earth-likes with rich, varied biomes and base building would be great for me, but I think that's not happening, sadly. Ditto gas-mining gas giants.

The spire sites sound as if they're worth a look, thanks for the steer, and so perhaps it's time to dip my toe back in! I have some store credits for paint-jobs and the like, and The Pink Panther (Python) is long overdue due an outing...

As much as I would love base building, I think that it's a very unlikely add-on.

If I was FDev (yawnnn...) I'd priorities new planet types, EVA (to explore derelict ships/stations), and adding new ships and SRVs.

AND

Put in an SRV racing track tool. This has already been done (very early days) by some talented chaps as a mod, who approached FDev with their working solution and were told to cease and desist. So, it's been done. Why the hell not add it?? They have CQC (I'm assuming this still exists) so WHY FLIPPING NOT!
