So, why did you choose the name you have? Does it mean something special to you, or was it just the result of a drunken midnight facerolling of your keyboard?
Great clip.

just a nickname I received from the days of service. first part was a call sign and the rest’s a "wolf" from Gaelic because of nativityI've always been fascinated by the names people choose to go by online. In ED, I know that many commanders actually use their real names. In the case of Rubbernuke, I can only assume that he is, in fact, a rubber nuke, and that one day he will come bouncing gleefully toward me and explode in my face. A terrible fate, I know, but that's the risk you take when getting to know the denizens of Dangerous Discussion. Frankly, I'll have only myself to blame when it happens.
I've gone by Shabine for a while now. He's the main character in Derek Walcott's epic poem "The Schooner Flight", which is about a Caribbean sailor who spends his days running booze for corrupt government officials and being torn between his love for his family, the allure of the open sea, and his infatuation with a port town woman named Maria. The poem follows the general structure of the Divine Comedy; he sails through hell, purgatory and heaven in both the real world and his own mind, and in the end he finds salvation.
So, why did you choose the name you have? Does it mean something special to you, or was it just the result of a drunken midnight facerolling of your keyboard? (I am 100% guilty of having done this at least several times). Do you tend to use it everywhere online, or just here in Elite Dangerous?
Just curious. Thought some of you might enjoy sharing.
Goto was also a Droid in KotOR II, which is sideways related to Mass Effect.Late to the party as usual.
Originally I carried over my (current) Xbox gamertag to PC, which is I Yugo I, named after the main character of the Wakfu animated series because I quite liked him. And some random guy had already picked the name but spelled it in all lower caps(grammar police intensifies).
Then I started being a bit more conscious about RP and tried to think of a more appropriate name for my character. Kira was the name for one of my own creation(the only one to date), so I picked it, but that was obviously already taken by itself. Since she didn’t have a great relation to her family, I made it part of her background in Elite that she chose to drop it entirely, and instead I took some inspiration from a certain Japanese thief of the Mass Effect universe. Who I definitely don’t like way too much over any other.
Given that it is somewhat of an odd combination of names, I was also reasonably confident that it wasn’t yet taken when I asked Frontier politely and shyly for a name change. So here we are.
I eventually made that part of her own ‘canon’ too, instead of her only going by ‘Kira’. No one looks at her as though she’s always about to steal something(which she isn’t, by the way), so it’s all worked out fine. Not that she’s told anyone about the origin of the family name. Or why no one can find the family she actually originates from.
Curious, but not what the name is referencing. I never played that game anyway, so I wasn’t aware.Goto was also a Droid in KotOR II, which is sideways related to Mass Effect.
Also the family name of one (family of) protagonists in Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. I get the feeling that it's a rather common name in Japan...Goto was also a Droid in KotOR II, which is sideways related to Mass Effect.
