Ships Whats your explorer builds?

I have several explorer builds I use depending on what I'm doing or locations I am going.

Conda

AspX

Speedy Explorer iCourier

New build Krait Phantom

My Krait Phantom

It is for long range exploration and poking around Thargoid and Guardian sites. I'll note out some unconventional details:
  • Weapons are mainly for my amusement and in case I come across something that needs exploratory poking.
  • Efficient PP gives up some jump range, but it's marvellous for scooping. I really have to do some stupid things for a long time to get it overheat.
  • Fuel tank. Didn't have anything else I wanted to put there and it allows me to do one or two extra jumps on the NS highway until I have to step off to refuel.
  • Class A life support. With G5 engineering I don't lose that big of a fraction of a light year for that and having to synth oxygen only every 25 minutes might actually make losing canopy in the black survivable.

It survived a gank attempt at Beagle Point and diagonal Abyssal crossing afterwards, so I would say it's a tested build.

I'm currently working on circling the Galaxy in a 63 light year Krait Phantom. I really consider the Phantom to the older step brother to the Asp Explorer.

I've owned 4 exploration ships in the 2 1/2 years that I have been playing. The first two were an AspX and an Anaconda which I have since re-purposed for material collection and mining (respectively), but I still have the other 2 in their exploration setups:

Dolphin with 2 SRVs, an AFMU, 16t of corrosive cargo capacity, and 56ly unladen https://s.orbis.zone/4wtd

Krait Phantom with 2 SRVs, an AFMU, 16t of corrosive cargo capacity, repair limpets, and 61ly unladen https://s.orbis.zone/4rgr

This is my Asp Explorer - Isil. I've had it since Feburary 3301, we've been through a lot together and I couldn't bear to fly another ship for exploration I don't think. The slight advantages the Krait brings certainly aren't enough to persuade me. She's had a few additions over the years, the most recent being the Guardian Frame Shift Booster upgrade. Which in turn allowed me to upgrade the thrusters to Class 5, after having used a Class 4 for so many years. It's been helpful on a few high g planets ;) The guns I've been carrying since I first got her, because back around release time Mike Brookes warned us to be careful of some things out in the black...

I should add I don't really care much for jump ranges. When I built her she had 32Ly ;) When engineering first game along I got it up to about 45Ly, now it does around 60 because of OP engineering and Guardian tech. I think that if you can get above 50 then with synthesis there's very little that you can't reach in game.

On a lark I left a few days ago to tick Beagle Point off my list.

Dropped the lander and she gets 75 ly.

1d power distributor, never thought of doing that, nice!

My main exploration ship now is a Beluga, it can fit everything. Exploring in style what's not to like about that.

The Phantom is now for local or destination exploring. She was my main explorer before the Beluga.

And the DBX is my Bubble-Colonia taxi. It just needs to neutron jump all day.

This is the last ship I took out exploring. I was testing it out for the Perseus Arm Expedition beginning next year

It worked out well so far. My actual jump range, fully laden, is just over 42 ly so I'm not sure what I did different on my in game build from this one in Coriolis but it's close enough.

My Krait MkII https://s.orbis.zone/4wys

55.8 ly range, SLF, 2x SRV, 418m/s boost, distributor primed for engines, plasma slug rail gun (fuel dump) and small mining laser. I'm really digging having an SLF along for the ride, also means I have a crew member aboard to keep me company..

PS - I don't share my builds for any of my ships. All my designs are proprietary and protected as a trade secret. You'll have to find me and scan my ship if you want to know what makes it tick ;)

Long ago with less experience I went for an Anaconda explorer build but never got serious using it. Later here is my Orca build in my second PC explorer account. Nothing amazing here including trying out the Supercruise Assist when it came out at the time. Nice for orbiting planets along the way versus trying to do it manually. But once I got to the Newtron highway it was a piece of cake getting to Colonia. Along the way I never used a heat sink or the AFMU with all those Newtron jumps. Upon arriving it cost me 250 million credits to transport a max engineered Python to Colonia. Now it is all about getting allied with the local systems. Just one way to play the game versus many. Enjoy the game playing it your way.

Regards
