What's your favorite ship in VR?

I noticed since switching to VR, my tastes in ships have changed. The Vulture, which used to be one of my favorite ships, now feels silly with such a huge canopy, whereas the humble Eagle might be one of my favorite ships to fly in VR. Last night I parked my Eagle at a busy space port on one of Jupiter's moons and just walked around to the various windows and watched the traffic for half an hour, while my wife made fun of me, LOL. I find the Eagle just wonderful for this kind of sightseeing, especially since I can look behind me, something not easily done in most ships.

I've only tried a handful of ships, seeing I'm still "poor" and all, so I'm wondering what other ships are extra awesome in VR, especially for "looking around" like I can in an Eagle. While the Eagle is great for experiencing the VR world, it's not the most capable ship. Perhaps something like the Mamba would offer similar views? Anyway, let me know what your favorite ship for experiencing VR is and why!

I was going so say Asp also.... glass all around in all angles is amazing, krait and phantom close, but the metal parts of ship up above you left and right looks good but can get in the way for me.

In order of preference: AspX (probably all the Lakon ships to be honest), iCourier, Python and Sidewinder because they both have a nice compact feel to them.

Yeah. SLF are good.
Krait is cool with those big guns above your head.
I like the FdL in VR too. Awful in pancake but makes sense in VR
And honestly, I enjoy the sidewinder.

Have you tried sitting in your SRV and slowly driving around an Anaconda? Their magic hulls seem HUGE!

I tend to prefer smaller, more cramped feeling cockpits like the sidewinder and the Cobra. You really notice how ridiculously large some bridges are in VR. My Krait has a bridge larger than that of an oil tanker, for heaven's sake.

I think this is indicative of the fact that Elite is first and foremost a monitor game, with a port to VR. The large bridges probably create a sense of scale when you're looking at a monitor.

The Cobra is the next ship I want to try. It always bothered me in 2D, because the sense of scale was all wrong, but in VR it might be a grand ship. It won't have the "look behind me" feel that the Eagle has, but it might be nice for running BGS missions, etc. The Python is another ship I really didn't like in 2D that I may now enjoy in VR. Unfortunately the larger ships are right at the edge of my budget. Maybe I'll have to finally bite the bullet and go mine some void opals!

I spend most of my time in the Cobra III, the cockpit is roughly the same size as my VR room and I'm sat nearly where my Cmdr is, so it "feels" right. Plus it's the Cobra and I've been farting around in one off-and-on since 1984.

The Anaconda is my haulage vessel, the bridge looks very bridge-y to me and the view over the sticky-out bit in front gives a nice sense of scale.

I didn't like any of the Imperial ships in VR, too bright, and the mahoosive glass cliff bridges don't tickle my fancy either. Got a Krait for mining, and I really enjoy landing in that because of the downwards view.

I really like the Kraits in VR. They really did a nice job with the little details.
I agree.
I would also add my vote for the AspX. Most of my exploration has been done in one, it just "feels" like an exploration ship. I just wish I could fit 2 SRV's or an added SLF.
I really like the Viper but the landing struts coming through the floor board bugs the bejeezus outta me.

I like the feeling in the Eagle too, everything is just so close to you. I also came to like the FdL for the same reason as the canopy is really close to the head. From a details point of few my favorite is the Mamba, so much to discover in that cockpit. The T-10 is nice too, sitting in front of the whole ship is an awesome feeling.

Does the Viper IV also suffer from this strut problem? I bothers me how many ships have bugs like these that Frontier blatantly ignores forever...

I believe the landing struts (..as well as ground vehicle hangar ceiling) clipping into the cockpit thing came with Horizons, because they needed to increase the ground clearance, so that the SRV can drive under the ship - we didn't use to stand on stilts that tall. :7

I guess if we're ever getting walking around our ships, and become better able to see these things, they'll either have to work out a plausible telescoping/folding way for the longer mechanism to work, or keep it just simply extended, like now, and stow it into a magician's hat. :7

I am going to vote for krait as well, however the FDL is a close second, I can never understand the complaining about the bar, but then again I use it in VR and it is not in the way at all there.

I favor Lakon ships in VR, because they feature such great visibility. It is nothing but awesome, to have downward visibility during landing operations. The Krait is also among my favorites, because despite being a DeLacy ship, it also features good downward visibility, which is essential for a VR exploration vessel in my opinion.

In general i like small to medium sized ships. The larger cockpits feel a bit too spacey in my opinion. The Eagle and the Imperial Eagle are awesome, so is the Imperial Courier.

The cockpit of the Mamba is special. The trench structure that separates the pilot and co-pilot seats is very cool and the large canopy is awesome in combat situations. And while being a medium sized ship, it feels almost like a fighter.

Yep, was only flying my FDL in VR this afternoon and agree completely. It all makes more visual sense this way.

I like the viper 4 in VR, because it feels smaller. I have one set up for wake scanning, and sitting outside a busy station watching the world go by listening to all the chatter is great.

Need to try the mamba too.

Kraits are nice, I still love the vulture cockpit. Courier is undeniable, though as I’m showing here I like to have some view in the downward direction.
