What's your favorite ship in VR?

I was flying my courier last night in vr. I find the long nose a bit annoying tbh.

The sidewinder is great in vr. You are really sat up out of the ship surface. Super cheap to buy for the experience.

Along with the completely natural headlook I think the cockpits are the best thing about VR. I don't really get that much sense of 3d/scale from stations and planets. Although the srv is fantastic in vr for about 2 min before I get nauseous.
If you set your sitting position in VR while flying the Sidey, and you then stand up you can look over the top of the ship for any damage...

The courier in VR shows off that long nose perfectly (in comparison to pancake) and I guess is a bit of a Marmite thing :)

My favorite use of the SRV is to get up close to something cool and then "step outside" and look around. For example, examining a crashed satellite up close. If only there was a way to put my feet on the ground rather than walking on air (vacuum). I suppose I could stand up on my toes and then reset the view before walking away from my seat... I'll have to try that. Space legs are fun!

The Mamba is really growing on me. The amount of detail in the cockpit in VR is staggering! I almost wonder if it's too much detail, as I think I might be taking a hit to framerate when flying it, at least in certain locations. I'm not complaining, just wondering...

Did you inspect the store room under the cockpit?
Down there the high cockpit detailing gets a perfect compensation for a balanced frame rate...

Kraits are nice, I still love the vulture cockpit. Courier is undeniable, though as I’m showing here I like to have some view in the downward direction.

I play exclusively in VR and I haven't flown the majority of ships yet. But of the ones I have, I adore the Krait MK2 and Vulture most. The ASPX and the T-9 have a similar feel with the giant open-view canopies, which I thoroughly enjoy. I also like the small cockpits of the Sidewinder, Viper, and Eagle. I find the DBX to be a sort of cross between the large open canopies of the ASPX/T-9 and the smaller compact ships. While I don't mind the Cobra and Python, I prefer a center seat. I don't care for the Hauler or Dolphin much for reason's I can't quite put my finger on. They seem too bare or something. I haven't flown any large ships so I don't have an opinion on those. It's the Courier that I'm most looking forward too next. I hear good things :)

When playinf 2D on my PS4 I adored my Python. Pound for pound it's the best ship in the game. But in VR? The cockpit is dull as ditch water. I found flying the Python to be a boring experience in VR compared to other ships. I fly a Krait Phantom now, and that's great. The best is still the Asp Explorer. I took that on a tour of our solar system last night after finally getting round to ranking up in the Federation for a Sol permit.

Pootling about on the surface of Mercury, skimming Saturn's ring, and dropping out of supercruise as close to earth as possible and making its curvature fill your view ... amazing. :)

I had the opposite experience. I bought the Python on PS4 and sold it hours later. I hated the offset view (same with FDL) and lack of scale. When I recently bought my Python on PC in VR, I liked it a whole lot more. Now I will grant you that it's "dashboard" is a bit dull, but I do like the bridge behind me and the view through the glass compared to some other ships. That's not to say the Krait isn't amazing, but I wanted to fly something new for me, and I had the Krait on PS4.

Of course neither of us is right or wrong - everyone has their tastes and preferences. Many people love the "old worn-out look" of the Anaconda, while I absolutely hate all those wires hanging down and dirty consoles. 🤷

My favourite cockpit in VR is actually the Imperial Clipper. Nice and roomy, and most importantly, when you look behind you the doors actually look like they accommodate human beings instead of hobbits. ;)

I even made a video of it (warning, there is a touch of swearing in this).

I did dw2in a krait in vr and didn't get bored, been ranking up combat in a vulture which is fun...recently bought FDL for trying something new at combat, love it too.The sidewinder is amazing fun and great to stand up during frame shift drive, very spacerock...man...definitely dusting off and doing up an eagle later after reading how many like it in VR, cheers!
Really love my mining python in vr, great part of the game. Cheers all!

I just built a new exploration Eagle with VR in mind. It's not a deep space explorer with its humble 20ly jump range, but I built it more for planetary exploration and material hunting. With close to 500 m/s cruise speed and a wonderful view out the window, it's great for flying over planet surfaces. I might even do a circumnavigation in it someday :D

I'm all about the Imperial Courier in VR, the fighter jet style cockpit works really well. I also love my Federal Corvette in VR, it's just so massive.

I was kind of underwhelmed by the Federal Corvette, the size and layout is great but (like several other of the larger ships) I found it too clean and sterile, with large surfaces covered by uniform textures. I'd love to see them do a new pass on the older, bigger cockpits, adding more dust/grime/wear/tear/nooks/crannies. I would happily pay a hefty sum for alternate cockpit interiors.

I agree with you in the opposite direction. I love the clean cockpits of Core Dynamics ships, but I actually prefer the Anaconda over the Corvette based on design and layout. If I could have a "new" Anaconda rather than one that's been sitting in a junk yard for the past 50 years (as in, a clean cockpit with no wires falling out of the ceiling), that would be my preference.

As for my Corvette, it just sits as a bookmark to Sol. Even in VR, it doesn't feel properly to scale... I keep it in case someday we get space legs and a proper NPC crew (got it on sale during Federation week).

Ah, they underestimated the ability for people to completely turn their heads around and look behind them! Have they never watched Betelgeuse?!

To each their own of course. :)
I wonder if full cockpit "skins" will ever be possible. I have a few plants and a string light, but in my mind my cockpit looks more like this. :D
