Using an oculus VR this is just simply amazing, daunting in fact. Some days ago I just got my first Type-6 transport and it made me I feel daunted, even scared. Then I made my first landing in one of these and I was just marveled at the whole thing. I'm looking forward to improvements and new gameplays.

I first played Elite on the Commodore 64 and was addicted to it then, the advancement in home computers since those days are enormous the graphics unbelievable. I love this version of the game there is so much to do. Plus the highs and lows of the game, like a recent crash on a planet landing [cry]which cost me days of exploration data, I was gutted lol, but you just have to dust yourself off and carry on. :D

Wait until you go mining asteroids in VR :D

I've had Elite since last Thursday via the Xbox Holiday sales. have been aware of Elite Dangerous for a couple of years, at least. I'm also not new to space sims, most notably having played Jumpgate which was inspired by Elite.

Just played the tutorials. The only issue has been with combat. I passed the first combat mission, then ran into trouble with the Advanced Combat Mission. Tried that a few times, watched some videos and forum threads, tried some more.

Then went back to the first Combat Mission, died, then beat it again.

Tried the Advanced Combat Mission again. Failed again and again.

Jumpgate didn't have a Flight Assist, so I have experience with Newtonian physics in space. But I find I miss having an "arrow" on my HUD/display that shows what my velocity is. Not speed, velocity. So the direction by which my speed is sending me.

That would make Flight Assist off, much easier for me. But it has been a little over a decade since I played Jumpgate.

The reason why I'm hung up on the Advanced Combat Mission is that the Training Missions are clearly organized between basic training (the initial list) and the Advanced area with the Skirmishes and other challenges).

I've already suggested some changes here.

I'm likely not going to be playing Elite Dangerous again until February, largely due to financial upheaval due to the US Government shutdown.

While I'm talking about the Advanced Combat Mission, I've seen many videos of it and a lot of it differs.

Some wind up getting into to circle fight with the Eagle (both ships turn, fire at each other, pass, then repeat). This is my experience, generally leaves my ship with no shields and 60% armor before the reinforcements arrive.

Others are able to get behind the Eagle for the majority of the time, if not all of it. Reducing the damage to Sidewinder before the reinforcements come.

I'd like to figure out how to get behind the Eagle and stay that way. I figure if I can do that, then I can withstand the two ships that arrive later.

My last attempt I was able to destroy the first eagle and then one of the other ships, right before blowing up.

My strategy has been to power up shields when I'm going to get shot at, power up engines when I'm turning with a mix to weapons so I can fire/reload at a faster rate.

I'm also using my thrusters when turning to be as fast as possible. One question, if I am pointing my nose up after the Eagle, I think using my thrusters to push my ship "down" helps, is that correct?

i am no longer new but distinctly remember my first strong impression which was "how tf do i dock this thing?!?!?!"

i didn't realize the little hologram on the Coriolis gained arrows to tell where the slot was. it was absolutely infuriating. i don't think i'll forget this until at least a year after (if) i stop playing

as much as i love the game, it was pretty indicative of the state of actual in game instructions/help

i have taught at least one, maybe two cmdrs how to dock in eravate system while "pirating" them (i only pirate "disney style" in that Ervate area and generally the cmdrs leave the interdiction/encounter with more commodities/credits than they entered it with, and also much more knowledge)

the voice actress on the combat training mission was excellent. that's another early, better early impression. the combat tutorials were actually a bit helpful, most of the other help non existent

another early, and continuing impression, was a deep desire to sink $5k into a gaming rig so I could VR instead of ps4

So, you've just downloaded ED and you've stepped into you shiny new Sidewinder and left the station.

Don't be shy let us know what you think. :D

0. What a beautiful and immersive game......wait....
1. What?!?? Why am I a paraplegic?? WTH are my space legs?
2. What do you mean I can't buy land to play space Minecraft on?? Build my own space port residence where I can dock my ship(s)? Build my own custom business? etc?
3. Ok. Ok. Focus. Ok then. Hang on...stop talking so fast for a sec. How do I know if I'm 5km out yet? Now what were you just saying? You wanted me to deliver some black market--I mean trade goods-- for you somewhere as payment for your free training session? There are a couple locations here on my left panel. Can you repeat the name of the destination please? Hello??
4. Ok. Hmmm....think I locked in the correct destination....
5. Now exactly WTH is this FSD? And how the hell do I even engage it? You're talking too fast....hey is this button it? Wait--OH S***T!!
6. Good lord, think I left my lungs and liver back there at the base port. Breathe. Woooooooo.......!!!!
7. ....Whoaaa...dropped out of hyper jump? Wait what's that? A sun--SUN! SUN!--DIVE! Jeezus
8. Crash. Instant vaporization.
9. Crash.

10. Now that we're on Nth times the charm, someone forgot to advise slowing down at the end of the jump dammit. *narrowly misses being re-flame broiled by radioactive said Sun body for Nth + 1 time*
11. Which station did you say I was supposed to go to again? Why can't I find a place to land on the planet? Isn't this the right place? Why won't you talk to me? Why can't I check your directions by email? Good thing I wrote it down on this scrap of paper before leaving the ship dock this time around.
12. Ok. Closing in on the orbiting body NOT planet. Requested docking privileges. Now WTH is the entrance to the space dock??
13. Crashes into space station
14. Aha! THERE IS THE (INVERTED) DOCK ENTRANCE. Wait, I need to fly VERTICALLY UPWARD into it--while it's rotating? WTH??
*Crashes into space station dock entrance*

**30 mins later**

15. FINALLY!!! Do you have ANY IDEA how LONG it took me to get my starter ship safely through the entrance of your cheap @$$ docking port? WTH do you mean I'm "loitering" at the entrance?? Don't be rude...wait going too fast. Too FAST. Throttle back, BACK....Nooooo!
16. CRASH
17. Ahhh. Finally. Got my starter ship perfectly aligned with these blasted chevrons, thrusting downwards and hovering inches over the center of the dock target...wait---WTH?!? DID YOU JUST REVOKE MY DOCKING PRIVILEGES?!??

Brilliant game. And LOVING every explosive and fiery second of my gross incompetence as a n00b Commander. Now if I could only safely make it out of the tutorial scenarios I'd be in pig heaven......

Im gonna be as plain and direct as possible here, and i dont wanna anoy anyone, but for me my 1st impression was... And i got it before i bought it, threw research and then bought it and i dont regret one bit doing it is...

This game is kinda like Privateer (wich i simply adored back in the day), and delivers in a simpler way all that the hype Star Citizen promises but didnt deliver yet.

No hand holding here. Here's your bog standard Sidewinder and your 1000 credits. Oh and here's a couple of rocks to put in your pocket for luck while you're in the deep end. Now get the devil off my landing pad!!!!

Now you have the basic crashing down, you need to learn how to do it with style, thats the real trick. :)
Welcome to Elite Dangerous, do you still have the rocks in your pockets youll need them for the deep end they call a galaxy for a while yet.

I said years ago that Star Citizen is prone to never have a release date - all they produce are tech demos and people are hyped enough to buy ships and stuff even they cannot ever play the game. IMO nothing has changed there, this game will be in development until people will finally give up on supporting it, because they are tired of it never to see the light of day.

Totally disapoint that is cause game concept was good, but thats live for u.
My only regret was i didnt found this game earlier than now, loving it totally.

Didnt take me way too long to get to grips on how stuff works, ships are fine, already on a diamondback explorer with a fully kitted explorer build and 4 million on the bank towards a new ship, wich odly enough the one that really makes my heart pump is the Krait Phantom, and will be moving towards that!
With less than 50 hours worth of play so far ive ranked to trailblazer, have a mapping under my belt already (atributed to me), have travel back and forth and done almost all that u can try out in the game as missions go.

So...I've been flying for about 157 hours taking it slow. I'm still in my sidewinder goofing off and learning the game. I've crashed, exploded, been fined, had a bounty placed on me, come this (thumb & index finger) close to being consumed in a star, had my cockpit fill with sparks and smoke countless times, been interdicted the same, got lost, lost my ship, ran out of fuel in solo and died (very disturbing), ranged for hours over desolate wastes in the SRV, chased by skimmers, learned a few things and have managed to save abt 10 million credits taking the humble odd job.

Although some irritating bugs have popped up lately...I love it...the immensity of it...the romance of it...I'm still learning...mostly by trial and error (or death) even spent a dollar or two on DLC...Kinda reminds me of the X4 franchise or even the old Independence War games. I'm not a hardcore gamer but I do love intelligently designed simulations to take the edge off in the down hours.

Well done Frontier...Keep on keeping on.

The biggest selfish n00b wish I have is acquiring space legs. The ability to escape my paraplegic pilot cockpit seat like you can in X4. This whinning becomes sheer torture if you have a SRV in your cargo bay. And especially after seeing reviews of the seductive and spacious Star Trek bridge layouts on the likes of luxury cruisers like the Dolphin :(

Wow, I have about the same time and the most spectacular thing I've done so far is recollect materials from an icy body... You really know how to enjoy your games. Congrats! o7

Amen ! You are preaching to the choir there.
This still in the top five requested features.
