What's your first impressions of Elite Dangerous? post in here and tell us

Hello !
I come here with my first impressions but also with impressions that I have collected on jeuxvideo.com, a video game french website which I use to go to.

I absolutely love most of the bêta, the sounds in particular. The gameplay with sidewinder (only ship I have) is great and coherent in my opinion.
The combats seem good, though I am far from being an expert so I'm leaving that field to some better players.

The Only blame I would have is the difficulty to make money through trading with the sidewinder.
I am okay to admit that I am a total noob at combat, making this aspect of "enrichment" difficult for me. So I decided to, first, focus on trading in order to upgrade my ship's weapons etc.

I spent a lot of time to establish a personal file with most profitable trade routes and still I can't make more than 500 credits per run. Once again, maybe i've missed something as I'm still establishing my board of prices.

But, I think that money is really a big problem at the beginning. I talked about that on jeuxvideo.com and a few people agreed with me.
I don't mean to change that so you can earn 10k credits per run, but I think that trading should bring a lil' more profits. Rising the average by 100 or 200credits would maybe do it. Well, it's hard to tell for me as I don't have yet a perfect knowledge of trade lines etc. Maybe I just missed the trick for now.

But in conclusion, I think the honest way to make money without using lasers is too slow. Compared to fighting, which gives 500c per kill if i'm not confused ?
There's a huge difference if you compare the amount of time spent to trade and to kill a few bad guys and the final income.

Though I imagine it would consume too much time and effort, I would suggest something like offering to start with a military oriented side winder, or a trade oriented sidewinder.

I hope I don't appear as a crying noob, I'm just suggesting, but i'm not asking for simplicity and I don't want the game to take my hand.

having played Elite II for a day last week at a friends house, I can say that this Elite is no different in the money you earn and the effectiveness of your weapon against other ships.. (well apart from you could buy 2 missiles in the previous game to take up a cargo space each to help you)

combat to begin with in Elite is tough, always has been.. but you need to figure out trade routes and gather cash to buy more stuff for your ship :)

just need to figure out trade routes etc and get making money (my next step)

Moneye doesn't seem to hard to make. I feel that in the test be are doing that too much emphasis is place on killing gor cash before you can get in to trade

About 12 hours of play and I am a third of the way to the credits for a Lakon. If making money is made any easier everyone will be finished with the game in weeks. You are not supposed to get the best ship within ten minutes of starting to play...

This an interesting thing to test in the beta...

the quickest ways to make money, so far I have been testing other stuff.. didn't actually occur to me to make money.

Once missions roll around, there will be more ways to earn money.

Right now, it really is a case of "do combat, or don't even bother". That probably won't stay like that.

Public Beta 2 Impression (Much Better)

Hi All,

Some of you may remember my first post how PB1 was un-playable for me:

http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=22293

Well, i'm pleased to say so far so good. :) Only played for 30 mins, but PB2 seems much better. The Netcode seems improved and i had no crashes, with faster loading of the game/new game when i got blown up etc.

AA still doesn't seem to work, but that's no biggy. Much happier. Didn't see any problems with my X55 Rhino either. (No all buttons pressed at once bug)

yep much better:

-increased fps
- sharper textures (station for me and star did not see much more yet)
-still some tumbling before/after some SC
- I can now full screen and ALT TAB :)
-s till huge fps drops when approaching rings

see for the rest - fitting my cobra again and going to Styx :)

Great to hear Zaine, glad the update seems to fix some issues. Good luck and enjoy... about 5 more hours till I'm off work and get to update. Sounds great so far.

My first impression of E:D so far.

First I would like to say that I did play Elite Frontier on my Amiga 2000 (in another life? or just long ago)

Then I moved on as the detail of the graphics was not enough to keep me playing. I did spend many hours though exploring the universe.

Years past by, Flight simulators was on the table and as they got better and better I expanded my collection. Today I only play a few games. Arma 2 & 3 /TOH and DCS flight SIM. Then in 2013 I heard of Star Citizen and as I am a big fan of space and also played the WC/freelancer/privateer games I was hooked.

Being on the SC forums I heard about this ED game and the debates was quite tough. As time went by I started to investigate more into that ED thingy and what it was all about. I went to the site, typical British, (we don't want to make a fuzz, so keep it toned down shall we) Like walking into my Uncles office, clean just what you need and that's it.

I started to read, watch the videos, enrolled to the forum and pledged for the premium Beta package. First I was like  WOW!! then I was like :D YES! I LIKE THIS A LOT! so can I go down to the planet..hmm nope, what about this moon...noope Oh wait there are SPACE STATIONS!!! Oh nO docking yes no no I'm tumbeling nOOOO don't hit turbo inside the station you ^%@#$@#

Finally I got it and now we are just fine.

So what is my impression so far? well I like it a lot, the "feel" i get is like Blade Runner, with the real Star Wars saga wrapped around it. So please keep it as a dark universe, keep it dangerous, and above all, keep it easy to learn but hard to master. When planetary landing and exploration comes to life I don't know if I ever want to log out :D

Good work so far (JUST LOVE THE FLIGHT MODEL)

Cheers,

You put the finger on it: the Star Wars feel, complete with howling spaceship engines and visible lasers, is what makes the game for me.

Welcome commander, now get back out there and start working on your profit margin. I don't know what those fancy shmancy star citizen boys have been feeding you, you'll get none of that here. No pats on the backs, none of that power salute "ooh wasn't that a nice shot?" nonsense. The only encouragement you get from the Elite universe is breakfast with the thargoids and a trumble down your trousers.

Hey Lys, I recognize you from the SC forums! :D

Thought you were a veteran ED backer! Either way welcome!

I went to the site, typical British, (we don't want to make a fuzz, so keep it toned down shall we)

It was very much the same during the Kickstarter campaign before the game was green lighted - toned down and a very nail biting experience. (As you mentioned SC we were very aware of that raking in the cash and ED seemed to struggle)

However, that's in the past - it's being made (yeah!) and I am glad you like it.

Some tricky parts for sure but all easily learned and hopefully mastered.
