When you return to inhabitated space...Solo or Open?

I travelled out in Mobius group, looked around Sagittarius A* in both Mobius and Open, but when I get to the last leg, I'll switch to Solo; simply because I don't want to run any risk of Peer to Peer lag, or a pilot accidentally ramming me at docking when I don't have any shields aboard, and losing what I expect to be around 60-100 hours of data due to something unpredictable and out of my control would be gut wrenching.

Most likely open. Like others have mentioned, I get interdicted just as or more often by NPCs. I'm currently exploring with a shield but without weapons and my home planet is deep in the middle of populated space. So when I get back, I plan to plot a course to the closest system and weapon-up. It may not actually help, but I'll feel better having something in my weapons bay.

I play in a private group all the time, and will do so upon returnig to civ space. Now, my "friends" don't explore much yet, and being a lil envious of my pics, they'll probably try some "joke" when they'll see my green square near them.

Open.

I only drop into Solo if I find a photo opportunity that has to be recorded in High Res. The rest of my Elite time is spent in Open.

I read an interesting suggestion for cutting down on risk in the Twilight Zone when coming back in from the Dark: at the first station in populated space that you come to with an Outfitting Bay buy some Hull Reinforcement packs for the flight back to your chosen final landing point. My Home Station is about 150LY inside the Bubble so there is always a risk of being shot down before I reach there. My Elite RP character can only sell the bulk of his exploration data at this station so he must get home at all costs.

Flying happy

I started playing in solo because i was worried about losing data to a trigger happy CDR but had a lot more trouble with NPC interdictions before the 1.2 update..after that i have had very little problem .....even less so in open.

I've been exploring in Open, so I will probably return in Open. I haven't decided yet. I'll be closer to the Imperial sectors of space, which have seemed to be less populated closer to the fringes, so it may be safe. If not, I have shields and great power distribution so I should be able to outrun anything average.

I should be returning sometime this weekend, unless a shiny spot takes me away (AGAIN). I will probably wing up with a friend in a Vulture. That way, I have my Clipper and his vulture to fight peeps...

I was interdicted on the way out by a Python.... But, he/she wasn't willing to follow me... as they could not keep up... I just kept jumping to the void... they turned back... But, I did take damage being pulled out of SC.

How safe do you play it when returning to inhabitated space? Do you go into Solo (or private group)? Or do you remain in Open?

When I went to Sag A* to buy a t-shirt I did it all in open except for the return through inhabited space where paranoia got the better of me and I switched to Mobius.

The thought of losing 30 days of exploration data was just too much.

Always in open... that makes the return even more exciting. Although I'm more concerned by NPC pirates than other players.

When I come back I'll be in open. Mainly because I'm expecting a bloody ticker tape parade. I'll have been out there for flippin' years at this rate. :D

Last night, after a month out, I did come back in Open. No problems. I'll be honest, I did hesitate a few systems out from Cao Gong, and I was tempted to switch, but in the end I went for it.

I'd settle for a few pirates, though, if it meant UC took the data faster.

About 2 weeks out, probably at regor or eta carina, I will call on the group I know to see if anyone with warships can come escort me past the NPC zones. 10,000 star scans is a bit too expensive to leave to luck.

I'll be coming back in solo mode.
It's about risk management for me.
Even if flying solo through occupied space only reduces my risk by a fraction of a percent, I'll take it.

Homeward bound at the moment and although it would have been nice to have the possibility of seeing another cmdr out here, not being able to get my hi-res screen shots in open( and no intention of logging out and logging in every time I wanted to do so!) I remain in Mobius.

To be honest, I personally never experienced that much player interaction in the past and I always ended up switching to solo due to clogged space stations / having to wait around to unload my cargo.
Also, don't really know anyone who plays E:D. In other words, don't have much of a reason to go on Open...

These days I just go straight into Solo on login.
