Where did the simple ship colors like vibrant blue go?

The old chrome paint just ain't what it used to be, ain't what it used to be...

I'd love to just be able to buy a color scheme for my entire fleet instead of one ship at a time...

But what fun would that be?

Chrome and Gold sadly usurped and replaced by coloured plastic replicas.

Lots.

Certainly more than buying 4 or 5 colours you didn’t want for one ship back when the paint came in packs.

I was thinking of a fleet paint purchase as an option

How many people actually have a full fleet (39 is it?)? I can't see a fleet-pack being very attractively priced, considering the minimum price is now one thousand, six hundred arxes per repaint.

Oh I think they sleep perfectly fine these days, especially after stock improved again. I just think they want to be sure that no legal issues interfere with this recuperation, and I couldn't blame them for that, especially after such a bold move (P2W, price hike, LEP cop-out). If they sail smooth, it would also mean longer server life-time and more time for us to enjoy the game, so everything's fine.
If this was the case, they could have said so and avoided the negative noise. Somebody will always complain but if there is a solid reason one can understand, the community will self-regulate. But they didn't and let it boil, hence all this is pure guessing. I don't know if someone is getting amusement out of watching the hubbub, the only thing I know is that my money sits tight until I understand what's going on. None of these things are really important after all.

Do you mean to say they removed those pjs so they could sleep better at night?

Penny's tried it both ways but the best night's sleep is always in a G1 maverick suit. It's better than PJs, like being swaddled by the camp fire.

Oh yeah I got the grey mare chromed; yet cherish and love my tactical grey paint natural colors.

About your idea that's a novel idea maybe to explain the jacked prices. But many paint jobs are more custom to the ship. So for the basic military, tactical, earth, vibrant, colors the cost might be the jacked price but available to all your ships.

I really like the old feeling of working a week to save up those ARX to paint my next ship yellow back when I was starting out though, they had always cost 390 ARX as I recall

I strongly doubt that there are any legal issues around offering simpler paintjobs. They sell coloured engine flares and weapon flashes for Arx, and those are arguably even less complex to implement than a custom skin for a ship model. They could be as simple as modifying some RGB values.

FDev have made some truly baffling decisions concerning the availability of paintjobs. Surely if they keep the range of paintjobs as broad as they can, and thus give more choices for players, that makes it more likely that people will spend their Arx, and thus more likely to "top up" by paying for extra Arx over and above the small amount that can be earned by playing. It makes no sense from a money-making perspective, nor from the perspective of customer service. Maybe they just stick little print-outs of the paintjobs on a dart board and throw the darts over their shoulders. I certainly can't discern any kind of logic behind it.

Well I'd like to assert it as a flawed logic, and it is presumptuous of me to say so; but I smell not only elderberries (might be coming from me..) but discern a logic was jacking up prices and clearing the shelves sort of pork barrel idea from more generic business thinkers sort of riding along, out of the bright lights directed at to the more meritorious game progress in the release. Confirmation on ARX purchases was also removed at the same time! <link> (I think I have not bought anything further since the shakeup; theoretically the confirmation might have been restored). I guess things like this get under a CMDR's craw and sound myself like disgruntled past players who died on miscellaneous hills. I really hope they come to a solution with the variety availability and moderating the "adjustments" rollout along with that next ship update, and trying to hold my tongue for it. Not trying hard enough judging by this paragraph. Hey whoever thought this vibrant yellow keelback paint would be such a collector's item tho

Yeah, I admit that I was just trying hard to find some logic in their behavior other than plain villainy and arbitrary incompetence. Your argument about the flares and flashes is sound, but who knows, perhaps they just missed that and will soon remove it, too? Did those prices also increase as much as the PJs?

Hard to tell as from what I remember from else thread the price increases varied.

Weapon and Engine colors went from 2240 to 5000.

Right, they're OK with half the Vibrants and Tacticals. Just not all. 😛

Browsing DBX paintjobs just now, I notice it does have vibrants for sale (in yellow, orange, purple, red, green and blue) as well as tacticals (cobalt, crimson, graphite, ice and olive). Is this what you're referring to?

As an aside, the store In Legacy Horizons has an oddity - DBX polarity yellow PJ along with a 12 piece exploration ship kit , 13 pieces in all - for 5000 Arx, which doesn't seem to appear in the store as viewed from EDO Live (maybe because in Live my DBX is far away, whereas in Legacy Horizons I was sitting in one, though?)

Purely in a spirit of open inquiry I attempted to purchase this, with results as below:

Frontier support, please consider yourselves paged! :)

....

There seems to be absolutely no reasoning actually being applied. Virtually all the Military repaints are gone, maybe one here and there, vibrants are there for some but not for others.

It is just crazy really - Asp Scout and Cobra Mk IV for example only have the 9 10,000 ARX specials - nothing else for some reason, although every other ship has at least one 1,600 ARX repaint available.

Anaconda has over 100 repaints yet Cobra III and DbX have only 51 - even the Python only has 70-odd.

I honestly think the person that signed off on these repaint changes has no idea about Elite Dangerous and I am not actually joking.

FDEV have really shown no respect for the players with these changes and the complete lack of response to complaints about it.

Odd... 🤔 Because that's exactly the paintjob and ship kit used on the prebuilt DBX for ARX in the store !?
