Where's the love for big ship owners and their rebuys?

Hello guys,

As the thread suggests. I have been doing a lot of friendly PvP. Problem is... I have no rebuys for my Corvette, Dropship, FDL and Cutter (went specific here to avoid bandwagons)! Since 17 Draconis is getting the nerf bat (including massacre stacking), and Sothis, Ceos and Robigo are not really good for big ship owners. Where could big ship owners go to regain rebuys, without spending months just to lose all of it in 1 or 2 days? I'm just confused on where to go, since any popular place gets nerfed anyway. Exploring is not really my thing, since 70m for 30,000 LY is a bit insane. If FD could explain what they are trying to do with the mission system, then that would be great. [downcast]

Many thanks,

CMDR StarfireIX

NOTE: Just because I do PvP, doesn't mean people should discriminate about it and hop on a bandwagon. Please be nice.
NOTE2: By big ship owners, I mean those who have incredibly high rebuys. If I have a ship that has a rebuy of 6m CR, then this thread wouldn't have existed. I want to be able to rely on a profession that has a decent amount of CR for less amount of time.

I make 30m an evening doing missions in Sol. Get yourself Allied with all the system factions (bad for Superpower ranking, but that'sokay - you're after cash). Take 2+ passenger missions at 5m a pop, plus up to 10 delivery missions for 1-1.5m each and 2+ assassination missions for 1-2m each. The big paying missions all come with the Allied status, and having it with a lot of different factions in the same system means you are almost always sure to have options. One big top up at Daedulus in the Sol system (mercury orbit) and I have an evening of variety and game play - which is actually quite appealing.

BTW I don't really need to mode switch to make this kind of money - playing Open or Private alone is fine.

You can probably do this in any system with a nice variety of very local high population economy types - but so far Sol/Daedulus works best for me. The only downside is that I have never ever seen a mission back to Sol (probably because it's permit locked), which is annoying but not disadvantagous considering its central proximity to many rich, populous, varied systems.

Also - do go exploring. It comes with a real feeling of accomplishment that only PVP can really emulate in the game, sitting somewhere in the middle of nowhere knowing for certain you are the only player ever to have seen that view. Combine it with a 50m passenger mission if you wish, as getting paid for it seems like good sense.

One other quick thought - if you are doing friendly PVP: how about all restricting yourselves to Eagles?? Same challenge, different budget.

Are you unfamiliar with how insurance companies operate?

Your premiums don't increase when you're not at fault for an incident.

Er... yes they do. Hate to bring RL into the game but, insurance companies totally rate you as a bigger risk if you claim, fault or not....

This is from "Admiral", a big car insurer in the UK, in an article they published about "Seven car insurance claims myths busted":

“The accident wasn't my fault so my insurance premium won't be affected.”

This is a very common statement we hear in the Admiral Claims team, but insurance is based on risk and statistics, so every incident you have is rated upon at renewal, regardless of fault.

These rating factors constantly change so we can’t tell you if a certain element will affect your premium. This is why we ask ‘have you had any claims or incidents, regardless of fault, within the last three years?’ Even if you haven’t made a claim, it’s still classed as an incident.

If you’re not at fault for an incident and we recover all the money back from the third party insurers, your No Claims Bonus is not affected. However, you still need to declare this to any future insurers.

And people getting griefed would pay more and more for their rebuys?
Not if I were the one implementing it... an aggressor would have their insurance coverage reduced for attacking clean targets (whether PC or NPC), up until a point... probably 5% reduction per attack (for example) with a minimum of 50% coverage with a penalty fall-off half life comparable to the bounty duration. The attacked target would be covered normally.

If you are found at fault for an accident involving two or more people (firing the first shot or interdicting could count), it is typically your insurance that takes the hit. In some cases, an insurance company may not cover you personally if there is evidence of a deliberate act or gross negligence. The exact terms of what does or does not affect your premiums or coverage may vary between insurance companies or even policies within the same company.

Premiums are different from coverage or excess... the nominal 95% coverage of ED ship insurance (5% excess) is comparable to how much excess is paid in an insurance claim rather than the premiums themselves. We do not even see the premiums modelled in any shape or form.

A modification of the insurance/rebuy coverage along the lines of that mentioned earlier in this post (maybe with different minimum, reduction per attack, and/or penalty half life) would probably help to address some of the concerns of people who get attacked by players nominally in bigger ships (without due in-game cause - i.e. bounties) more often than they consider reasonable.
