White Knighting in the game

Sounds like we need a few more *honest* pirates to enter the profession and keep things interesting.

Maybe when wings are established we will have some 'Robin Hoods' and their merry sidewinders to relive those big fat Lakon 9 traders of their ill-gotten gains.

Starting to think the same, anarchy systems crowded with traders should have at least 1 pirate! With no Black Knights, there's no White Knights or Grey Knights :(
Maybe there are only like 20 PC pirates in the whole universe so that's why it's the same names on every bounty board?

Concerning Asp vs Cobra, while my PvP experience is very limited in ED, given that an Asp with A6 shields and enough health pots... err shield banks slots to have a LOT of recharges can pretty much tank an elite anaconda face on.... I can't see a cobra even with full plasma / rails scratching it. Even lightweight cheap D6's are very good, and A thruster seems to have very similar maneuverability to a cobra with an A.

I think griefing is VASTLY overstated. I've not had anything except good interactions with other players.

Sure I've been shot at by other players, even had one blow up my ship, but it was in a conflict zone and they were Federation pigdogs so it was all expected. I bagged one of their number too. But that's a conflict zone. Outside conflict zones all my interactions with other players have been peaceful and often quite a lot of fun (e.g. helping out a noob in a Sidey with pulse lasers who was trying to take out an NPC pirate Anaconda last night - took out the Anaconda's shields, softened it up with dumbfire missiles, then let him take the kill and bounty - this was a random encounter in open play)

I did come across a viper tanking Sidey's at a station, but nothing since.
It would seem apart from a few isolated incidents, the problem is greatly over exaggerated.

During Beta I seen a lot of people with bounties on their heads but now in Eranin and nearby sectors none of players I encountered had any bounties and everyone seems to do their business trading.
Also didn't see much of players doing combat missions, maybe as it is very instanced to meet some player and since the start of release I didn't meet anyone in lets say Unindetified source signals
and got interdicted only once and that was an AI pirate ship.
Seems to me that in this game are mostly goodies and noone wants to bother with a bounty on their head.

I've toasted a couple of players with bounties but that's about it for PVP. I try and help out and ask if someone needs some help in a battle they seem to be losing with a npc or I'll tell any players around me they can have any cargo from my bounty kills. 99% of the time people just do their thing and don't bother other players.

It's not easy to catch a Viper or Cobra that doesn't want to be caught in an Asp.
It's not hard either, it's impossible. Same goes for all the bigger ships. A Cobra will outrun any ship in the game, in any situation, and 100% of the time its going to survive doing it (unless it gets squashed in the interdiction collision)

One recent time I was slowly taking out a wanted Anaconda at a Nav point. A human player in a Cobra thought he was smart and tried to help the Anaconda kill me. Unfortunately for him, my speed dictated our engagement and I slowly pulled him away from the Anaconda and proceeded to blast him to bits - although not before warning him to stop. He sent something offensive to me in chat so I shot away - once his shields were down I asked him again to stop. He called me a noob and said that's what he did was kill noobs, so I ended him.

This was in the Anarchy system close to Eranin - LP something or other. The Anarchy system that was notoriously popular during B1.

I've not yet encountered a Cobra faster then my A class Viper.

So was I my friend. So was I.
You're not gonna catch any A-kitted Cobra commander with a Viper, unless you get very lucky in the interdiction setup, and manage to railgun the thrusters. And even if you could catch up, shield cells guarantee that you will not take him down before he jumps away.

I have seen quite a few other players in game mostly sideys and never had any grief off them. I was surveying an anarchy system with my new cobra and did get interdicted and attacked by a player, managed to damage them a bit but at 38% hull and a blown out wind shield I said adios!.

This was however a really exciting bit of game play and welcome this sort of thing, I was in an anarchy system after all and plan to return better equipped ;-)

Oh that might have been me, cobra got away from me today with almost exactly the amount of armour you're reporting, I smiled and thought smart guy.

Having read quite a few posts about people griefing new players in sidey's with vastly upgraded vipers, cobras, ASP's and god forbid Python's
I haven't seen many posts at all complaining about griefing since release, if any. That doesn't mean the posts don't exist or that it isn't happening, but I'm wondering if that is the reason you're not finding any bad guys - people aren't complaining about it as much as you seem to think because the problem simply doesn't exist?

Well, I just got interdicted by another player in Eravate. My not so very upgraded Cobra was toast in no time, didn't even get a proper look at the ship that killed me. I had no bounty at all, just running cargo. 200k worth of cargo lost, 50k insurance cost, adding up to 250k of my total 300k. I'll play solo from now on, until I can afford a ship that will survive such encounters.

Let's see... Wings would be good for starters. Manning turrets on another player's ship would be a really nasty surprise for attackers (I would volunteer for that job from time to time since there would be no risk to me, but would provide a fun multiplayer experience for me.). The ability to have your ship made functional, even if it costs a premium, in space needs to be added with unlimited credit available if needed. Destroying drives should have a high bounty (scaled to the cost to call out the repair ship) so it is not worth doing except for the most valuable cargoes. Destroying drives would be viable play at times and would no longer equate to death for the target. If drives are destroyed currently, there is no reason not to self-destruct.

Damaging shields should incur a fine, not a bounty. Pirates need to be able to show they mean business without crossing the line into getting a death-mark on them. If they can rough a target up a bit and the target throws them a bone to their liking, it should be possible to sell it off and pay the fine (it was all a misunderstanding, no harm done) and make a profit that way. Attacking a clean player would need to flag the attacker as "Agressor" or something for a few seconds to allow people to defend themselves and others without getting a fine themselves.

This would also make life easier for bounty hunters who do not want a "Wanted" flag every time they clip a not-yet-identified-as-wanted target.

He got a nice catch, shame we don't get killmails or some stats on damage caused/assets destroyed.

Actually, this is one of the problems as well.

So far, running rares, I've gotten interdicted in my Type 6 twice by players.

1. Guy in Cobra asked for my cargo (& he scanned). I gave him 3 rares, he seemed happy & I fly off.

2. Second person, in an Asp, didn't respond to coms & just ganked me. I would've sent him a few rares as well, but I didn't get a chance.

Fortunately the generous insurance system paid out & I probably lost about $150k total.

My problem with being ganked is that I can't hop in my other ships & try to get revenge. I don't know where the ganker went, I barely know his name, and even if we're in the same system there's some luck involved in getting into the same instance. I'll never see the guy again, he has *zero* risk.

The problem with piracy is the window to pirate before someone flies away is pretty small. You have 20 seconds to send a message, get some goods, show some force, etc...it's easier to just fire first, destroy & scoop loot.
