Why are fleet carriers so absurdly filthy? Does none of that weekly upkeep go towards paying janitorial staff?

Look around, FCs are covered in stains and dirt.

The aircon fan on mine has a blade missing, I'd like to be able to fix that. Cleaning up the clutter would be nice too.

Maybe some optional maintenance feature like integrity or paint wear for ships could be used for carriers?
Yeah, we spent 5 billion on these. You'd think they could come in better condition. But at least the option to do something about it woud be great.

So long as it's an optional thing, some of us like the lived in look, it shows that my carrier has been around the block a few times.
I agree that others should be able to live in their filthy carriers if they don't wish to clean them up.

Maybe inventing a new "Janitor Service" for the carrier is a thing ?

But beware, it takes up all free space on the carrier... 🤭

I prefer the 'used', 'lived in' look. It enhances the immersion. However an option to have it cleaned and maintained like ship repairs would please people like the OP.

I don't know about dirt, but the lack of a trash can near the elevator leads to a pile of garbage nearby. I wonder if this garbage is thrown when going to the ship or when running to the elevator?

I think the older the carrier the dirtier it becomes, outside too. Gotta have crap lying about its real!
But having the option to clean it ie a thorough annual service at one of brewer corps facilities, would be cool

Can't say that I've noticed that the inside of my own carrier being particularly unkempt, although maybe that has something to do the choice of interior livery/colours I've chosen. I went with the one that I think is called "Mining" or something like that, because it makes the screens and monitors look kind of like the colours used by the LCARS system in TNG-era Star Trek.

Certainly I've come across plenty of big stations and outposts with more grotty-looking interiors than my fleet carrier. Seriously, some places are actually kind of disgusting with the amount of junk food wrappers strewn all over the place.

I have noticed the missing fan blade though. I agree that it would be a good idea if we could choose the level of dinginess for our carrier interiors. Ranging from utterly spotless and antiseptic, or slightly used with regular tidiness, or somewhat lived-in with non-litter clutter (pads, cups, clipboards etc), all the way to oh goodness imagine the smell complete with litter everywhere, dirty streaks and dripping water.
