Why are Jump Load Screens Ten Seconds Long

multiply those 10 seconds by the number of hyperspace jumps you've done... And then see how much time you've wasted looking at a loading screen.

And that is rather insignificant compared to the amount of time I have spent enjoying this game. Not even close to being statistically significant.

Elite is fun and a good value. All of you who threaten to leave need to stop. People don't play most games for months or years, yet they still make money. Elite is special and you know it, so please stop threatening to walk. Either play or not, or come back and forth if you need a break. Just because you need a break doesn't make the game a failure. Also you backers can't keep using the "I backed it" card forever. Elite won't die without you, so stop trying to control Frontier so much. This goes for every complaint thread. Maybe I missed their financial statement thread, and all of you know something I don't about Frontiers bank account. If so, then ignore my rant.

I play always open and i only get long loading screens and even disconnection if i join a instance heavy populated with human players (get this sometimes on the Cubeo system stations for instance) But for the great majority when i hyperdrive or supercruise any where else its pretty smooth....

on planetary landings however i usually get a 2/3 secs loading screen that breaks a little the immersion but within acceptable parameters.

I play on Ultra Settings with a graphic injector (Reshade 2.x and EDFX)

My pc is a I7 6.4k with a 1080 Gtx and 16 gb ram and Ssd drive... My connection is a 100mb/s

Play something else then if you can't stand the 10 seconds per jump.

Goodness knows how you manage to suffer other games loading up, steam starting up, your Windows OS starting up, boiling a kettle, cooking food (what a WASTE of time - and you need to do it repeatedly! Crikey!) - and lets not even think about the travesty which is sleeping for hours a night - who thought that up?!?!?!?!

Sheesh!

There are children dead on the floor of a concert hall, and people are bleating about a 10 second loading transition between what are effectively "levels", which DO need to be loaded, in a fictional space game. Get a grip.

I can't really answer that question; other than when the network wigs out and leaves me sailing through witchspace waiting for the inevitable disconnect, I have "wasted" zero time "looking at a loading screen" when playing ED. I have spent countless hours jumping a pretend spaceship between pretend stars. Perhaps that makes me crazy, but I seem to be having more fun than those people who can only see loading screens. Between crazy or annoyed, I'll take crazy.

Or going to Colonia / simailr distance, in which case there is a lot of this. I never understood why there is a spool-up AND a count-down; surely they could be concurrent and we would save 5 seconds which adds up over several 100 jumps

There a count down for combat reason, to give the opposing forces a chance to destroy or disable your engines before you jump.

If I am playing in Solo or a PVE Private Group, there is NO VALID reason to force longer load times in order to maintain some arbitrary idea of "balance" between players. Its a ridiculous claim supporting a ridiculous premise.

To make CG fair.

If private groups or solo allows for faster travel then every body would be playing in that undermining the whole point of CG.

An it isn't a ridiculous premise at all.

Wanting to play the game and not being able to is time wasted in my book. Everything else is a matter of perspective. Take away the realism I like in the game and I'll be upset. Put in too much and I'll be upset. So I choose to do that which I think is right, I just get on with life. And when I get some more free time I'm jumping into the game and going to love it. Live well, live with tolerance and embrace the happy side. Then come to the forums and share with others how well you're doing. Please.

That and there is some setup that needs to be done in order for an instance to be functioning properly.

I'd suspect the Hyperspace loading transition could be further reduced if the data were pre-loaded during course routing/FSD charge.

I've nothing against less transition-y transitions.

But that potentially means downloading data that might not be needed, for example ship being destroyed, which isn't good for the old server bills that come in every month.

-Rep for using a real world travesty in an argument about a computer game.

I propose no ships so you can insta travel with no load screens. Of course that biowaste you want to move can only fit in a reasonable size box with reasonable size weight a human can carry. Have fun filling to that 24T contract. 😜

Tldr; No problem with the animation or spooling time, it's pretty cool actually, but I don't like that the game demand from you to make constant jumps. Nothing really can be achieved in one system.

-"Oh, you did a mission I asked you to complete? Great! Now come back here, I want to tell you how I like to waste your time"...

Ehhh... Imagine you'd had to go to Cambridge every time you want to post on this board.

You forgot to specify the most important thing of your computer specification. The graphics card. I used to have long loading times on my old rig. On my new righ with a GTX1060 6gb turbo pretty much all loading times are instant. So... It might actually be your end. YOUR computer has to load ALL objects for every transition it makes. Lowering the graphics helped on my old rig to some extent. On my new one everything is on Ultra, game installed on an SSD and broadband at 100/10Mb. Then there is the planetary generation loading sequence which I have turned on which helps preloading stuff when the game boots up to again shorten loading times. If you don't believe me though I'll gladly post a video of transition times. :)

GTX 1070 8GB. It ain't the GPU either, but thanks for reminding me.

I've timed it, and its about ten seconds. I can usually complete a whole jump sequence (cool down, charge, and jump) in about 45 seconds if my packets don't lose their way crossing the Atlantic.

Hyperspace jump is about ten seconds. For the tunnel portion. Countdown adds another five, but yes, 10 mirrors my experience.

And this is why I have no hope for FDev ever changing the loading...er I mean jump screens. Ive always thought this "immersion" excuse was just that, a poor excuse. Ships should capable to travel in the hundreds of LY, not 10s. The galaxy is simply too big and it takes far too many jumps to get from here to there. I have to check my logs in EDDS but it seems half of what I do in this game is looking at loading screen after loading screen. Immersion? Please.

And the only thing meaningful in my experience after pressing the Jump button hundreds of times when I went to Colonia was realizing how much time I had just wasted doing something I had become very bored with a few dozen jumps after I had set off. I had hoped reaching Colonia would been some earth shattering experience in this game. It wasn't.

Alas, this too mirrors my experience with the game. Which I have at last shelved for a time. I need the break. It's gonna be a long one.

Dude, are you for real? I get carded for PG-level swearing and you try to deflect from problems in a video game by appealing to real world terrorism?

What the blithering is your problem?!

We get it. We just don't care.

You do not speak for everyone.
