How do we know there was a cut terrapin?

It was confirmed to be cut content along with the lord howe stick insect. Leaf did a video on it a while back. It was going to be the exhibit for the Aquatic pack but they switched it to the diamondback terrapin instead.

My baseless theory:
They are indeed planning to carry over stuff from PZ to PZ2, but intend on modifying/replacing current systems, like the climbing system and the exhibit system... meaning adding animals that require the PZ versions to function would need to be remade for PZ2... as such, they're deliberately avoiding such animals, because it wouldn't make sense to add them to PZ so late in the game if they knew they'd have to remake them for PZ2...

Yeah, it is bummer for the Zookeepers collection specially. I could have understand it with barnyard, even though it could still bring something, but with a pack celebrating diversity of animals, a smaller exhibit species would be fitting. Chameleon in particular is fan-favourite. It would not even need to change colours, just make it basic green.

Just with the whole Frontier Zoo thing going on it felt obvious

I looked into it more, and the Malayasian painted river terrapin was actually cut before the Aquatic Pack. It was intended to be a base-game Exhibit Animal, which is very intriguing!

Exhibit animals are only really animated if they're in walkthrough exhibits or fully underwater. Otherwise they're quite static so complex animations aren't a huge issues for chameleons or geckos. The former also don't strictly need colour-changing since that's largely based on their mood anyways.

Yeah they could just given them to us in bunch of different color variations like axolotl

Chameleons could have changed colour out of sight, just like every time exhibit animals change their placement inside the terrarium.

Now I'm seeing it and what a great exhibit animal that would have been

Surprisingly no more Exhibit-type animals since Barnyard having none either. I wonder what's the idea of that latest pack being named Zookeepers Animal Pack. I hardly know what types of Exhibit and Walkthrough Exhibit could be there.

I was just thinking how well would a Panther Chameleon fit in this pack. With the Sifaka, Fossa and the 3 base game lemurs, the chameleon would go so well in hand with those in Madagascar houses. What a shame!

I want to but also wanted to stay realistic , in a perfect world I would replace the Dik-Dik with the Hyrax but it seemed unlikely.

A bizarre occurrence for this year is that neither of the two DLC packs for 2024 have a single exhibit animal. We didn't even get one as a free anniversary animal. Like them or not, they're an essential part of rounding out this game's biodiversity. Without them there'd be no amphibians, no bats, no sloth, no snakes, and not a single arthropod!

And what better way to celebrate the progress that's come thus far by... not having any exhibit animals at all. Apparently. This is a genuine question, how can there be any remote celebration of this game if the other half of the animal roster is being completely ignored? This makes no sense at all, and I wish one of the developers would answer why exhibit animals have been disserviced so unjustly this year and especially for the monumental 5th anniversary.

And there were so many options to choose from too! Cobras, mambas, pythons, the Lord Howe Island stick insect that got cut 4 years ago, throny devils, bearded dragons, geckos, chameleons, and a whole lot more!

Also there were frogs, one salamander and one newt and axolotl but not a single toad species. And also no fish species. That's the last of all five groups of vertebrates (backbones ones) to be there.

A few things
I think Asia could have gotten some more exhibits as they have the leaf insect and the scorpion
Toads could have had a rep
There are so many great reptiles in game and currently not in game
Geckos and chameleons would have been a great addition
As a way of not going too crazy with fish, I would suggest freshwater fish. Red bellied piranhas, electric eels, cichlids, fire eels, arowana or any kind of fish that would be cool for an exhibit our current size without trying to turn things into full aquarium mode. I keep saying that a koi pond WTE would have been great.
