Why are we forced to an aggressive approach?

It would be sad to think that even the much anticipated aliens are met with player ennui.

My indifference is at the point where I'll just copy/paste my reply from a different topic:

Hey now, are you implying that Thargoid encounters are static, non-dynamic experience with defined triggers as opposed to an inevitable force like a flood or plague set to sweep across known space?

Boy I hope not... I've had my hands full the past couple of years not being impacted in any way by the 12-way clandestine cold war struggle for galactic dominance known as "Powerplay." The threat of a legendary alien threat from beyond witchspace endangering all of humanity and making me actually notice there was an invasion would be too much for me to handle.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got more important things like farming arsenic and high grade emission USS's to think about.

My Thargoid-give-a-crap-o-meter is reading pretty darn low these days.

So, on top of all the other gems from 'Season 2" this aliens business has so far proven to be another under-whelming, uninspired, unexciting, readily-ignorable addition to ED?

Come on.

That's too harsh.

Do Thargoids give crap? That's one non-aggressive way to get a sample, of a sort.

Hence why our new defense system looks like a...

My personal assessment? Yes. Aside from 2.1 with landable planets, the entire Season 2 has completely drained my will to play, and left me with zero confidence in FDEV. Actually, it's worse than zero confidence - I have all the confidence in the world that everything they do from here on out will be no more imaginative than Thargoids in a USS or mission chains. The laziest possible implementation.

Everyone who says 'Why are we shooting them' must not be aware of the massive war between the 2, and how humans engineered a virus to wipe them out.

It's not like they're stopping by to say a friendly hello.

I have the feeling the "plot" is completely fixed and bolted to combat.

All stuff we got to interact with the Thargoids are new Weapons.

Even the "scanner" resulting in aggressive response and is only for being able to target subsystems.

The probes make them really aggro too... and with (until today) no additional defense, the explorative guys in their small and weak vessels out there have no good chance to collect tissue samples, which don't play a big role anyway.

And as in other threads mentioned, why there are only trade CGs resulting in weapons for the Pew Pew crowd.

I am a fan of the Pew Pew... and I killed a few Thargoids, but there wehre a cool opportunity missed for the first interactions.
We should have got the defenses at first and then a CG just to get tissue samples from them to develop weapons or some kind of that.

But FD are like: "Here you have a subsystem scanner and a rocket launcher, go and have fun with the aliens"

I see this in my Wing. Most of the guys are like: "Na, I don't want to fight them. I wait until we have a scientific approach." ...I have the feeling we are beyond that point of interaction. :S

The Problem is. Any Plot that would at this point in time suggest an Peaceful Approach would be highly Unrealistic and would result in the entire thing becoming extremely Generic.
Even more so than it already is on some other Edges.

Thargoids have come out and Attack us. An Species that we cannot Talk to and have no means to Communicate with has started Attacking us with Superior Weaponry and Technology.
So at this point the Logical Focus of everyone is Countermeasures.

Once we are further into the War. Its likely that Focus will Shift towards Understanding the Enemy to be able and Formulate Effective Means towards Defeating it.
Intelligence and maybe at some point Communications might become possible and once this happened there might be options for an more Peaceful and Scientific Approach.

But just like in Reality.
If your a Scientist Researching an Enemy in War. You cant exactly Approach em and ask Questions.
You have to wait for the Soldiers to bring back Corpses and Equipment to Examine. Recordings and Footage of the Combat and Enemy Technology to Decipher and possibly at some point a Prisoner to Interrogate and get Information from.

And even then the Main Demand from Military to you in exchange for being granted the Options to actually be offered Access to such Valuable Information and Opportunities of Research. Is that you attempt to get Information out of it that might help us Win this War.

Such is the Fate of Scientists in War my Friend ;)
