I get it, but I own my home IRL but still pay property taxes. If I didn't pay the taxes I'd not own my home for much longer. That's at least how I rationalize the in game cost, as trivial as it is.You own yours? I just rent mine. I mean, I still have to pay to use the services I paid for on the Carrier I paid for, so it really is just rented...
Still, for me it was planned as a Mobile Base for various activities. I use it to store most of my ships and modules, as well as various cargo I've hoarded. I'd hoped it'd be far more feature rich than it actually is, perhaps able to buy and sell things at the same time, but we're blocked from that. It'd also be nice if that expensive crew could pilot the thing more than one jump, or transfer fuel from storage without me doing it manually. I really don't know what I pay them for at times lol.
I do wonder if they'll ever expand on the feature set of the Fleet Carrier, they seem to be pretty darn popular, so increasing what they can do would doubtless be welcomed by all.
That dang Churchill is going to be the death of us all!Actually cmdrs out in the black are raking it in.
My exploration alt's carrier costs 25 million per week upkeep. She's made that from a single bacterium even if she hadn't been funded by my main. I can get months of upkeep from a single session.
But then NN is stuck in a temporal loop from 2016 and has no idea how much has changed in the last seven and a half years. Most people would have moved on by now, but I don't suppose he knows how anachronistic he is now.
Agreed. My earlier reply was about upkeep, which is to be expected.I get it, but I own my home IRL but still pay property taxes. If I didn't pay the taxes I'd not own my home for much longer. That's at least how I rationalize the in game cost, as trivial as it is.
I have not owned a Fleet Carrier (FC) because I feel that the implementation ruined several game play loops/mechanics.Why do you own a Fleet Carrier?
I find it necessary to assume I'm just renting or leasing the carrier. It doesn't make sense otherwise, and the bridge crew definitely don't talk and act as if they're working for me!Agreed. My earlier reply was about upkeep, which is to be expected.
The only gripe I have is the owner paying the same for using services as everyone else. That makes it seem like you're just renting it. They really should have taken the personalization a little beyond the livery.
A carrier just requires gobbing great quantities of cash (no unlocks or engineering).I don't own a FC and I doubt I'd make the cash for it. How much did they boost payouts. A 100x? That'd roughly take me 100 hours to collect the money, then and I doubt I'd bother. Does it have some rank or rep limits? You could add a couple hundred on top of that then. I pass.

That would seriously mess my head in, i 'Tow' my Carrier behind my exploration ships, the thought of missing a single system would drive me nutsPersonally, I'd explore a LOT more if I could program my FC to take me thousands of ly away overnight, waking up to a new location next time I logged on. That'd be epic.

Yeah, I feel it has some station qualities in programming that treats you like an ally but not like a boss. I remember when stations started treating you differently if you were allied, I think. It was suggested by several here including me that some more friendly message would acknowledge the commander instead of a generic greeting. On a carrier it should recognize the owner and have a specific set of voice queues for the arrival of the commander. As it stands, although the commander has fleet carrier command, he doesn't have recognition by the crew. It would be cool if you could land at an entry with a small to med ship, but only as the commander. As do I, but I don't have to pay again if I take something out of the Fridge for example, as I paid to stock the fridge in the first place, Look, it's just FDev's take on Balance, and that's fine, but these Carriers are not owned by us. They will turn against us if we do something the local authorities don't like in their vicinity for example.
It's all good though, we understand how they work in their limited fashion, just think it'd be nice if we could do more with them. Having something so expensive is a gameplay goal in the game, it was for me, so giving them a little more flexibility would be welcome.

Mobile base (docked max amount of ships) and home. Makes my play more time efficient, and allow use more ships based on current needs. I also like to do mining from time to time, so using FC storage is another benefit. Next one is possibility to passing larger distances (usually few thousands ly) when I have only limited time for playing but want to change location. Why Do You Own a Fleet Carrier?
