Why Do You Own a Fleet Carrier?

I'd rather not have NPCs loitering at my carrier. If I am going to be playing, I restrict access to my carrier. If I am going to be away from the game for a while, I will open access since I only play in Solo yet my carrier is present in all modes. It might as well have some use and not just be an eye sore,

Good point. I haven't checked, but I guess if I disable access to my carrier, the NPCs will carry on landing regardless! Must try it.

I think there was a lost opportunity to give carriers some trading utility here. I think if I park in a system with a station which has things for sale at a price below the price of a buy order on my carrier, NPCs should spot the opportunity for a quick profit and slowly deliver the stuff. The rate of delivery could be dependent on the price differential. Same for selling.

No, they definitely don’t spawn(except system security) if you have access set to anything other than open. Know from experience.

Still prefer parking in uninhabited space, usually. So I don’t have to worry about accidentally hitting one of the security ships circling the carrier.

I use it as a home base because I spend most of my time out in the black at 15,000 plus ly from the bubble exploring and scanning bio life. I return to the bubble every 4 to 5 months to refuel the carrier and maybe engineer some of my ships or scope out new findings that happen while I'm away like the new ANCIENT ALIEN BATTLEGROUND DISCOVERED Wregoe BU-Y b2-0 1 c. etc...

I'm considering getting a carrier. Since I came back to the game in April-ish, I've made about 6 billion credits without really trying. I guess upkeep should be doable, but I'm not a credit farmer. Still working out what advantages I'd have with one.

I've read some of this thread and will read more when I have time. Lots of good info here

It is worth going to Wregoe BU-Y b2-0 1 c to see the new Gaurdian Ruins even though they show up on planetary POI as Thargoid signals?!?
At ruins you get all the usual Gaurdian items and materials, at the Crash sites you get Thargoid Resin, probes and Samples, etc.

One of the Ruins is a small ruins map and after raising 6 pylons, you drop a relic at the central point and it gives you a Guardian Weapon Blueprint which may come in useful later for me as I've only got the Gaurdian Weapons from previous CG's.

The other site is huge as these go, but you need a 'key' (for a ship blueprint) which I don't have and apparently you get one from Beacons, which means there is probably one not found yet, near here, as the nearest one with a 'key' is 1000LY away.

You'll need more than just the 5m basic carrier cost. There's modules to fit it out, fuel to buy if you plan to travel around, when I got mine I also bought two Cutters, one for mining tritium & one for max cargo (792t+autodock) to fill/empty the carrier with trit or commodities depending on use. They live permanently on the carrier. The weekly running cost isn't a problem if you play regularly but putting a bit of money in the carrier bank & allocating some or most of it to the weekly maintenance fee is important too to avoid it being decommissioned if you are away from the game for a stretch.

It can be done more cheaply but as you say, money is pretty easy to get now.

if its not been said not read all the posts if you are out in the black.having a mobile base is handy, also when i was way out between sag A colonia and beagle point my fc was open to all, just in case.never had them first time i tried it,a helping hand and all that apart from heading back or calling fc to youre location for a drink in the bar a full fc of trit will get you a long way and back to the bubble

you'd be safer with at least 8.5 billions
you need 5 billions for the carrier, 1.7 billions if you intend to put all services on it (which would mean about 35 millions weekly upkeep) and the rest (1.8bn) to cover for 1 year of upkeep

I have mine as friends only most of the time and I still have NPCs landing and taking off if I'm in an inhabited system.

Thanks. That seems like sound advice.

I just checked, and evidently, I made much more than I thought. My cash total is over 10 billion now. I don't keep track of that, so it's a bit of a surprise. Way back when, it was rare to see people with billions, but now, everyone seems to be pretty flush with it.

So far I've used my FC as a base of operations for exploration. It's quite a different experience to be able to thoroughly explore a particular sector, rather than linearly investigating each system while travelling between far-flung points of interest across deep space.

Just before my joystick broke, I parked my FC in Zochna after opening up every carrier service except the black market, and bought a load of ships and modules to sell. They're selling with a 0% tariff, so if you're in the market for scanners, cargo racks and mining equipment, then please consider stopping by The Menagerie Pt.III.

Well, you have much more than you need to set up a carrier, and if you've done that in about four months you'll have no trouble at all paying for upkeep.

When setting up, note that you don't need "shipyard". Your ships will get shipyard facilities anyway. The carrier service called "shipyard" is only for selling ships to other people.

I Explore , so it's just me, my Fleet Carrier , an Asp for exploring , and a mining Cutter for fuel. . Nothing more i need 07

My modestly fitted out carrier costs 14.7 million per week which is easy to achieve plus I put about 1 billion into the carriers bank to cover things if I was unable to play for a while. There is more in there now despite buying Tritium.

10 billion should be enough to buy and fit out your carrier as well as future proof your upkeep bills.

What you use it for will depend on what you like to do but I am happy I got mine if only because it got me out into the black further than 5,000Ly for the first time.
