Why do YOU play In Open?

To watch them either blow up or wink out of existence after I prevented them blowing up some poor trader. I can count on one hand the number of times I've actually been there right at the exact moment to save someone. Usually I have to settle for 're-education after the fact' :D, but those are the moments I live for. o7

I play in open.
I try to chat to other players I see.
Winging up with others for a task, if I can.
The ganking is a pain, but one day I'll git gud.
😊

because nothing is more satisfying that sticking your hand out the window and giving a friendly wave to passing CMDRs in SC

Wish I could fight good enough for this, but from hard done for trader and myself, thank you.
👍

I wouldnt play it anywhere near as much if open was'nt a thing. Given how much detail has been put into the flight models and how much fun real human combatants can be I don't think i'd find it anywhere near as engaging.

Also to be a thorn in the sides of the pilots who think they're gods gift. And man is that list loooooong as all hell.

Dirty hiphop and dirty drives yo.

I admit it would be kinda cool to meet some of the forum regulars and YouTube stars in the game itself. That's pretty much a PC exclusive experience these days, as I never see any of you folk on PS4. Once, long ago, but not now.

I play in open and have no idea why. Rarely if ever interact with other commanders, heck I rarely see them with how I play the game, but once or twice a year I'll go join up with a random commander or two and shoot baddies for a bit. Back in CG days before they became a shooting gallery I'd frequently ride with fellow traders, too.

I don't care for PVP, and move to solo for engineering / shinrarta runs. So I guess chalk me up to the random encounter bit.

I somewhat dislike running into random folks, so I tend to stay in Solo. My playstyle is slow and laid back, and I like to potter about in my own little galaxy.

There are a couple folks I would like to meet in-game, but we play at different times and in completely different areas. Probably couldn't instance with them anyway.

If I had to play on PS4 my only gripe would be the elephant butt leather and shadows, I guess. :p

ED's always been a multiplayer game for me so I play either in Open or Mobius, depending on the mood. Then again, I spend most of my time exploring out in the black so there isn't much going on in terms of interaction with other players, but I like to keep the odd chance of running into a fellow commander somewhere in the middle of nowhere alive.

There's a lot of combinations of ships/modules/weapons and engineer mods to test in the game.
So I'm constantly busy preparing the stuff.
Thus have no time for any distractions.
That's why I'm in solo.

I play in open to see if I see any other players (I am in the ‘bubble’).

I don't usually see anyone at all but occasionally come across another player.

On PC? I was let to believe that PC is a "hopping place" with people in every system. Maybe PS4 isn't the forsaken platform (by players) that people say it is.

I play in all modes depending on how I am doing or if I am using my laptop.
Open is the most common for me; however, I rarely see too many commanders, even at CGs.
Most of the commanders I do see arent very talkative although this weekend it was pretty good where I was running around.
So I guess the reason for Open for me would be chance to meet others (even the ner-do-wells that explode me from time to time).
Its certainly not for the PvP since I dont engineer and just run away, the PvE can be fun but that is generally in a PG with my group of fiends (not a typo).
I think the PvE could be great but at the moment i guess i just dont hang out at the right places.
I would still play if Open and Solo were gone though the deal breaker for me would be the loss of PG mode, I could always have a PG of one.

Never played on the PS4 (i hear there is an EBL problem on that platform) ; however, open, even though it is the most played mode is still empty most of the time. I think it depends where you are (even in the bubble) and what times you play, probably even geographic location i would guess.
So unless you have a PC and can get the game on a sale (or not) I cant see buying a PC just to play the game, although the lack of EBL might be a reason?

I often wonder if the "most played mode", comes from the fact that it's the default you get dropped into if you don't specify otherwise... and a lot of newbies won't know about PGs until they've been on the forums a while.

Yes, on pc. I suppose there are hotspots out there (and i always ‘go solo’ before entering an engineer’s system). But I have found it very quiet. Always. I’ve put it down to it being such a massive play area
